FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MIDDLEBOROUGH — Town Manager Jay McGrail, Planning and Development Director Leeann Bradley and Conservation Agent Tricia Cassady are pleased to share additional information about the start of the town’s Master Planning process and opportunities for public engagement.

About the Middleborough Master Plan:

The town is working with its regional planning agency — the Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District (SRPEDD) — to develop its next community Master Plan. Middleborough’s Master Plan was last updated in 2002.

According to SRPEDD, a Master Plan is a policy guide designed to help communities create a vision of what they want to look like in the future. Master Plans help guide communities in their planning decisions for many years and are a valuable resource for anyone who would like to better understand a community’s values and priorities.

Over the next two years, the Town of Middleborough, with support from SRPEDD, will build a new Master Plan based on a combination of input from residents, business owners, community organizers and other stakeholders, and current, accurate data about the town. The new plan will help guide the town for the next 10 years.

Public Engagement Opportunities:

On April 13, SRPEDD staff will be at the Herring Run Festival, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., at Oliver Mill Park to inform residents of ongoing projects in Middleborough, including the Master Plan.

On May 1 from 6-8 p.m., town staff and SRPEDD will be hosting a kick-off Discovery Workshop to inform residents about what the planning process will look like and to begin discussing a vision for the 2025-2035 plan. The Middleborough Master Plan Discovery Workshop will be held at the Middleborough Public Library, 102 N. Main St. Community members are encouraged to register for the workshop and can do so on the SRPEDD event page

The events are the first in a series of community workshops and opportunities that will encourage input and feedback from residents to help shape the town’s Master Plan. A kick-off survey is expected to be published prior to the Discovery Workshop and topic-based workshops are expected to be held from June to November before the Master Plan writing and reviewing process will begin in 2025.
