Today’s Action: Demand Democrats include REAL climate action in the infrastructure reconciliation bill!
We are seeing climate disasters accelerate at an alarming rate. Just this week, the Pacific Northwest has experienced an unprecedented series of heat waves that have melted power cables and buckled asphalt; there has been devastating flooding in Detroit that shut down a major freeway and left hundreds of vehicles stranded; there has been an intense drought spreading from the West to the Great Plains.
Scientists warn that the warming climate only promises even more frequent events like these.
Despite all this, last Thursday a group of bipartisan negotiators reached a deal with President Biden on a heavily reduced infrastructure package and completely cut out proposed climate action efforts to make it acceptable to Senate Republicans.
Our Earth is at stake, we are running out of time. Climate change solutions like clean energy are non-negotiable. Call or email your Senators and demand they ensure climate action is included in Democrats’ infrastructure reconciliation bill!
President Biden has said he will sign a bipartisan infrastructure and a reconciliation bill that includes progressive priorities, the latter of which would only need to pass with a simple majority. But we need our representatives to fully ensure that real, substantive climate action is included and passed through through the reconciliation process.
The Biden Administration would be foolish to abandon the needs of the planet and American people in an effort to find common ground with the very people determined to see them fail. Our elected leaders need to understand that every passing day without climate change initiatives is a gamble with how much time we will have left on a liveable planet.
This could be our last shot to reverse climate change. Call or email your Senators and tell them you’re watching how they fight for our planet!
PS — Please don't forget to sign the petition boycotting Toyota for funding Republican insurrectionists, and be sure to follow OD Action on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
