Today in Politics, Bulletin 150. 6/13/25… The ‘No Kings’ protests of Trump are gearing up around the country tomorrow as millions are expected to be a part of the largest demonstrations yet against the authoritarian MAGA movement. Organizer Ezra Levin told CNN they expect 1,900 protests in all 50 states: “Even conservative estimates say that 3.5 million people turned out for the Hands Off mobilization in April. No Kings is on track to exceed that by millions more. This is historic.” … The stated purpose of the protest is to reject “authoritarianism, billionaire-first politics, and the militarization of our democracy.” … Even God is angry about Trump’s military parade. The weather forecast for DC tomorrow calls for a 90% chance of thunderstorms. … Meanwhile, Republicans are in full panic mode over it the protests and are rolling out a show of force to intimidate citizens from exercising their first amendment rights. Gov. Greg Abbott said he is deploying 5,000 Texas National Guard troops and 2,000 state police to assist local law enforcement in policing the protests. … Gov. Mike Kehoe called up Missouri’s National Guard “as a precautionary measure in reaction to recent instances of civil unrest across the country. We will not tolerate violence or lawlessness in our state.” … Gov. Henry McMaster: “South Carolina’s law enforcement will not tolerate lawless behavior associated with this weekend’s nationwide planned protests.” … Gov. Glenn Youngkin: “There are several planned demonstrations for this weekend in VA. There will be absolutely zero toleration for the destruction of property, looting, vandalism or violence of any kind. Disrupting traffic or distracting drivers is not only unacceptable, but also dangerous.” … Brevard County (FL) Sheriff Wayne Ivey: “If you throw a brick, a firebomb, or point a gun at one of our deputies, we will be notifying your family where to collect your remains because we will kill you. We will kill you graveyard dead." … Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) said she thinks the Chinese govt is funding the protests and her committee will investigate. She also posted this: “Do NOT attend the No Kings protests. I have screen shots circulating that leftists are going to wear MAGA gear in an attempt to cause chaos.” … Seen near the White House today: … This was also outside the White House today. … New Reuters poll on Trump’s response to LA protests: Approve-35%, Disapprove-50% … Fox national security correspondent Jennifer Griffin: “The Army parade tomorrow is also a nightmare security scenario for authorities following the increased threat from Iran following Israel's airstrikes.” … That is because it appears we are now at war with Iran, despite the fact that the only statement we have received from the Trump admin about it is from Sec of State Marco Rubio denying any US involvement. Fox: “The US is assisting Israel to shoot down Iranian missiles. An official said, ‘There are hundreds of thousands of American citizens and other American assets in Israel and the U.S. is working to protect them.’” … Rubio released this statement shortly after Israel’s launched their attack last night: "Tonight, Israel took unilateral action against Iran. We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region. Israel advised us that they believe this action was necessary for its self-defense. President Trump and the Admin have taken all necessary steps to protect our forces and remain in close contact with our regional partners. Let me be clear: Iran should not target US interests or personnel.” … But after initial reports came in that Israel’s initial strikes appeared to be successful in decapitating the leadership of Iran’s military, Trump woke up wanting to claim credit for all of it. He put in phone calls in a few hours to Bret Baier, Dana Bash, Jonathan Lemire, Lawrence Jones, and Jonathan Karl to say that he was with Israel every step of the way on the planning and execution. … Trump also posted this on Truth Social, which contradicted Rubio’s statement that we had nothing to do with it: “Two months ago I gave Iran a 60 day ultimatum to ‘make a deal.’ They should have done it! Today is day 61. I told them what to do, but they just couldn’t get there. Now they have, perhaps, a second chance!” … And then this: “I gave Iran chance after chance to make a deal. I told them, in the strongest of words, to ‘just do it,’ but no matter how hard they tried, no matter how close they got, they just couldn’t get it done. I told them it would be much worse than anything they know, anticipated, or were told, that the US makes the best and most lethal military equipment anywhere in the World, BY FAR, and that Israel has a lot of it, with much more to come - And they know how to use it. Certain Iranian hardliner’s spoke bravely, but they didn’t know what was about to happen. They are all DEAD now, and it will only get worse! Iran must make a deal, before there is nothing left, and save what was once known as the Iranian Empire.” … I have no idea what he is talking about when he says they need to save the “Iranian Empire.” Is he talking about the Persian Empire that Alexander the Great conquered 2,500 years ago? … But Israeli officials were telling Axios that Trump has been involved all along by pretending to engage in peace talks just to lull Iran to sleep before Israel struck: “Even as President Trump pursued a nuclear deal, Israel was preparing for this strike - gathering intelligence, positioning assets and eventually conducting drills. Those preparations alarmed some in the WH, who worried Netanyahu might move even without a green light from Trump.” … “Netanyahu assured Trump he wouldn't. The WH told Netanyahu that if Israel attacked Iran, it would do so alone. Trump himself said several times in recent days, including several hours before the strikes, that he opposed an Israeli strike that could ‘blow up’ the negotiations. But in the hours after the attack began, Israeli officials briefed reporters that this was all coordinated with Washington. Two Israeli officials claimed to Axios that Trump and his aides were only pretending to oppose an Israeli attack in public - and didn't express opposition in private. ‘We had a clear US green light,’ one claimed.” … “The goal, they say, was to convince Iran that no attack was imminent and make sure Iranians on Israel's target list wouldn't move to new locations. Netanyahu's aides even briefed Israeli reporters that Trump had tried to put the brakes on an Israeli strike in a call on Monday, when in reality the call dealt with coordination ahead of the attack, Israeli officials now say. … The Spectator Index: “JUST IN: Revolutionary Guards commander says that the US 'tried to deceive us through negotiations'.” … Middle East expert Dennis Ross to WSJ says he thinks the Steve Witkoff negotiations were a ruse: “There is no question that the Witkoff mission was a major contributor to the surprise. The Iranians would have assumed that Israel would not attack while the talks were under way and a meeting was about to take place.” … Michael Weiss, Editor of The Insider, said he received this text from a Ukrainian friend: "Whatever happens, I hope this doesn't mean Witkoff has more time to spend on us again." … Many in Trump’s MAGA movement are not happy. A big chuck of them are very isolationist who believed Trump would end all wars, and another chunk is anti-Israel. Tucker Carlson: “This could be the final newsletter before an all-out war. US says it was ‘not involved.’ That’s not true. Trump is complicit in an act of war.” … Tucker: “The real divide isn’t between people who support Israel and people who support Iran or the Palestinians. The real divide is between those who casually encourage violence, and those who seek to prevent it — between warmongers and peacemakers. Who are the warmongers? They would include anyone who’s calling Trump today to demand air strikes and other direct US military involvement in a war with Iran. On that list: Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Rupert Murdoch, Ike Perlmutter and Miriam Adelson. At some point they will all have to answer for this, but you should know their names now.” … Tucker also posted this in March: “It’s worth pointing out that a strike on the Iranian nuclear sites will almost certainly result in thousands of American deaths at bases throughout the Middle East, and cost the US tens of billions of dollars. The cost of future acts of terrorIsm on American soil may be even higher. A bombing campaign against Iran will set off a war, and it will be America’s war. Don’t let the propagandists lie to you.” … Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY): “Israel doesn’t need US taxpayers’ money for defense if it already has enough to start offensive wars. I vote not to fund this war of aggression.” … MAGA activist Bryan Berg: “I voted MAGA. Instead I got Bush 3.0.” … Steve Bannon: “We don’t oppose Israel being Israel first, but we have to be America first. The bottom line is we cannot be dragged into a war on the Eurasian landmass or in the Middle East.” … Charlie Kirk says if anything bad happens because of Trump’s policy on Iran, it will be Joe Biden’s fault: “Keep your head on a swivel. Biden let millions of people into America. Iran might activate some sleeper cells against Americans. Stay armed.” … Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT): “Talks to address Iran’s nuclear program were planned for Sunday. Instead Netanyahu launched illegal strikes on Iran, killing a top ceasefire negotiator, undermining U.S. diplomatic efforts, and putting countless innocent lives at risk. We can’t be dragged into another Netanyahu war.” … Trump supporter Vincent Scardina is upset that ICE just grabbed a third of the workers from his roofing company in the Florida Keys for deportation. To NBC6: “It’s quite a shock. You get to know these guys, you become their friends - not just an employer but a friend. We’re not able to just replace people as easily as, say, a big city, with very limited people to pull from. Then you would have to train them, and that takes sometimes years.” … Attorney for the 6 men Regilucia Smith to Daily Beast: “They are legally here. Valid work permit, not even close to expired, no criminal records here - and not in Nicaragua.” … Scardina was asked if he now regrets voting for Trump: “Buyer’s remorse? I don’t know, a little bit. I know of one landscaper that lost 9 or 10 of his whole crew he had and he’s just totally out of business all of a sudden, just like that.” This week was like a month, and tomorrow could end up being the craziest day yet. But I am off on Saturdays as usual and am going to take an old narrow gauge train from Wiscasset through the forrest to a lavender farm for a barbecue. Nothing too exciting, but good time for Maine! Next column will wrap up the entire weekend on Sunday night, so I expect I will be very busy all day on Sunday putting that one together. If you missed yesterday’s Bulletin, you can find it here. … Pro boxer Ryan Garcia, who hung out with Trump at Mar-a-Lago: “I may have voted for Trump, but I can’t stay silent about what’s happening with ICE in LA. These aren’t just ‘illegals’ or statistics they’re people. Hardworking immigrants, especially Mexicans, who pay taxes, raise families, build our communities, and are part of the people we love. Ripping them away from their homes is not just policy it’s pain. We can have borders without losing our humanity.” … Nanya Gupta, American Immigration Council: “Reuters reporting an 800+% increase in immigration arrests of people with no criminal convictions under Trump. The numbers prove what we already knew—this is an indiscriminate, anti-immigrant agenda that has NOTHING to do with public safety.” … Immigration expert Aaron Reichlin-Melnick on new Senate funding bill to give $150 billion to ICE and border enforcement: “This funding would make ICE the highest-funded law enforcement agency in the history of the US, with greater detention capacity than the entire Fed Bureau of Prisons. It would reshape society, making fed arrests a daily fact of life in every single community. The Trump admin has pulled THOUSANDS of other fed law enforcement officers away from their normal duties, including HSI agents tasked to stopping pedophiles and FBI counterterrorism agents. And the FBI halted ALL white collar law enforcement.” … Maj. Gen. Scott Sherman who commands Marines sent to LA: "I would like to emphasize that the soldiers will not participate in law enforcement activities. Rather, they'll be focused on protecting federal law enforcement personnel. Two companies of Marines actually moved to the Wilshire Fed Bldg in LA last night. They started what we call left seat, right seat leader familiarization training with the 79th IBCT soldiers that are there. They spent the night at that location. They will take over full operations today at noon (PST) at that location.” … The Marines then made their first detention of a civilian in the United States. Reuters then reported he was a US citizen. … Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich: “We hear that immigrants are ‘freeloaders,’ yet they're being arrested at their workplaces. We hear that immigrants ‘just need to follow the law,’ but when they attempt to, they're rounded up at courthouses. Hello?” … New AP Poll shows that Musk has lost support of many Republicans after his feud with Trump last week: Republicans Only, Very Favorable Opinion of Musk - April-38%, June-26%. … Former NFL player Antonio Brown, who is a vocal Trump supporter and has appeared on stage with Trump at rallies, was just arrested and charged with attempted murder with a firearm in Miami. All the best people. … Reprehensible Ric Grenell, who Trump appointed to wreck the Kennedy Center, told Politico that he has discussed with Trump running for Gov of CA in 2026, but would only wants to do it if Kamala Harris runs: “I want to see if Kamala runs. If Kamala runs, I think there’s a whole bunch of Republicans who are going to have to take a look at it, not just me. If she runs, it is going to make me have to take a look at it.” … Trump in new interview: “President Putin, he lost 51 million people on WW2. Russia did fight. He fought with us in WW2 but everybody hates him. But Germany and Japan are fine. Someday somebody will explain that to me. Putin doesn’t understand that either. He said, ‘we were your ally and now everybody hates Russia and they love Germany and Japan now.’ I said, yeah let someone explain that sometime to us.” … He’s so moronic it’s painful to listen to him. He just takes things Putin tells him and repeats them as his own position. … NYT reported that Zohran Mamdani and Brad Lander, who are 2nd and 3rd in the polls, have made a deal to cross-endorse each other in NYC’s mayor election and are asking their supporters to put them 1-2 in rank-choice voting to try and prevent front-runner Andrew Cuomo from becoming mayor. … Rep. Anna Paulina Luna says she has legislation ready to immediately expel Rep. Lamonica McIver (D-NJ) from Congress if she is convicted of obstructing ICE agents outside a detention center in Newark: "Going to move very quickly with her case. As soon as she’s convicted, there is legislation ready for expulsion. She will be dealt with." … WaPo is reporting that Kash Patel and Dan Bongino want to move the FBI Academy from Quantico, VA to Huntsville, AL. It has been located on the Marine Base there since 1972. Trump has also pledged to move Space Force Command from Colorado to Alabama. … Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who was rumored to have had a lengthy affair with Kristi Noem reported by many sources despite her denials and claim that she is happily married, is now traveling with Noem now as her assistant at DHS. How do we know? Corey was the one who told the FBI agents to let Sen. Padilla go after they arrested him yesterday in LA at Noem’s press conference. … Politico: “A federal judge on Friday blocked key provisions of President Trump’s executive order that sought to make it harder to register to vote in federal elections, including a requirement for voters to prove their citizenship. US District Judge Denise Casper wrote in the ruling that the Constitution gives the power to regulate elections to Congress, adding that lawmakers have not passed any laws that authorize Trump’s actions or otherwise delegate their authority to the president.” … Kyle Clark reporting from the courtroom today on the final day of Mike Lindell’s defamation trial, where he claimed he had discovered proof that Dominion rigged the 2020 election: “The defense again argued that Lindell wasn’t reckless with his election rigging claims. ‘They’re trying to hold Mr Lindell to the standard of a PhD. He has a high school education,’ attorney Chris Kachouroff said. ‘He did the best he could.’” |

It is about to be a very long night right now. I will be providing you coverage through it all. If you believe in independent journalism that speaks truth to power, now’s the time to support it. A subscription helps keep this work going—unfiltered, relentless, and accountable.
Here’s the news of the day:
United States News:
The United States Marines have detained an American citizen in Los Angeles, according to Reuters.
Elzon Lemus, a 23-year-old U.S. citizen and electrician from Brentwood, is speaking out after being wrongfully detained by ICE agents during a traffic stop in Westbury while on the job.
Despite repeatedly asserting his citizenship and questioning the stop, Lemus was handcuffed, searched, and held for 25 minutes without explanation or apology — an encounter his attorney calls a clear case of racial profiling and potential constitutional violation.
A military commander has confirmed that approximately 200 Marines have been deployed to Los Angeles to safeguard federal property and personnel. The move comes amid heightened concerns over security in the area.
Kilmar Abrego Garcia has pleaded not guilty to human smuggling charges in a Tennessee federal court. The case is now proceeding through the legal system as federal authorities continue their investigation.
A federal judge—U.S. District Judge Denise J. Casper in Boston—has issued a preliminary injunction blocking key provisions of President Trump’s March 25 executive order on federal elections. The ruling halts directives requiring documentary proof of citizenship for voter registration, barring states from counting mail-in ballots received after Election Day, and conditioning federal election funding on compliance.

BRAIN WORM RFK JR BABBLE: A Department of Health and Human Services document sent to lawmakers to justify Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s controversial decision to reverse CDC guidance on COVID vaccines cites disputed or unpublished studies and misrepresents others, drawing sharp criticism from health experts. One called it “willful medical disinformation,” especially concerning the safety of vaccines for children and pregnant women, while others condemned Kennedy’s bypassing of formal CDC procedures and reliance on flawed evidence.
Israel vs. Iran
Iran launched around 100 ballistic missiles at Israel, with about 10 making impact; over 60 Israelis were injured in the assault. One Israeli has died according to preliminary reports.
The U.S. assisted Israel in repelling the attack, which has prompted Israel to declare that Iran has "crossed the red lines."
In response, Israel launched a new wave of strikes inside Iran, including dozens of jets targeting key sites, with confirmed destruction of Iran’s above-ground enrichment facility at Natanz.
Israel has carried out strikes in Tehran targeting residential districts close to Iran’s Supreme Leader and near the presidential complex, according to The New York Times. These strikes are part of Operation Rising Lion—Israel’s largescale military campaign aimed at nuclear and military facilities—resulting in significant civilian casualties and hitting sensitive political zones
A senior commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards has accused the U.S. of attempting to “deceive us through negotiations,” indicating that purported diplomatic talks were in reality a ruse aimed at misleading Tehran
French President Emmanuel Macron has placed France's military on high alert in the Middle East, urging French nationals to avoid travel to the region amid escalating tensions. He emphasized France’s commitment to protect its citizens, diplomats, and military personnel while calling for maximum restraint from all parties
The U.S. State Department has warned that any Iranian attack on American citizens, bases, or infrastructure would result in severe consequences. Officials emphasized that the U.S. is fully prepared to defend its interests and respond decisively.
Iran’s U.N. ambassador told the Security Council that Israeli strikes have killed 78 people—including senior military and nuclear personnel—and injured over 320.
See you in the morning.

Peace By Tweet As Reality Lives In Rubble
Peace By Tweet As Reality Lives In RubbleTrump’s fantasy presidency is collapsing under the weight of war, lies, and delusion; yet, he keeps screaming “no war” under my watch as the world burns in real time.
Guest article by Michael Cohen Let me introduce you to a little-known, highly underrated word. A word that’s not often uttered in Mar-a-Lago circles, rarely spoken inside the West Wing, and almost entirely foreign to the man currently occupying the Oval Office. That word? Reality. Yes, I know; beautiful, isn’t it? It has weight. Substance. It doesn’t need all caps, gold trim, or a matching red hat to be powerful. It’s the quiet truth that walks in after the circus leaves town. Meidas+ is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support our work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. Now, I know what you're thinking: "Cohen, what’s the point? We live in a post-truth era where people get their news from memes and their policies from YouTube influencers and TikTokers with usernames like BiglyPatriotDaddy88." And you’re not wrong. But we still owe it to ourselves to put reality on the record. Otherwise, we’re just another banana republic with a nuclear arsenal and a Wi-Fi connection. Let’s rewind to Trump’s campaign; not the first time, or the second time, but this third cursed remix he ran like a bad cover band that refuses to quit. You may remember the greatest hits: “If I had been president in 2020, there would be no war.” “Russia would never have invaded Ukraine.” “Hamas would have never attacked Israel.” “Iran would behave.” And let’s not forget, “Every man, woman, and child would have been handed a gold-plated unicorn with a side of ivermectin.” It’s easy to say something when you have no intention of being held accountable. It’s easier still when your supporters treat every one of your promises like it was carved into stone tablets and brought down from Mount Sinai by a QAnon Moses. But enter reality, and suddenly the hologram collapses. Let’s evaluate Trump’s reality, shall we? Reality check number one: Reality check number two: Reality check number three: Reality check number four: Reality check number five: And oh yeah, did I mention? The military is in the streets of Los Angeles. We are at war with ourselves. Armed. Deployed. Patrolling American soil in direct violation of posse comitatus, which—for those unfamiliar—is a quaint little law that says our government isn’t supposed to use the military to police civilians like we’re living in Caracas or Pyongyang. But guess what? Reality is inconvenient when your entire administration runs on delusion and rage. So, let me spell it out: it’s easy to say anything. I could stand here and promise you that under a Michael Cohen presidency, everyone would have universal healthcare that actually works, a fair living wage that covers rent and bills, zero crime (because who wouldn’t want that?), prescription drugs priced like Tic Tacs, education that doesn’t feel like a prison sentence, and weather that smells like fresh-baked cookies every morning. I could say all that, and it might even sound good—like the kind of hope you want to believe in. But saying something doesn’t make it true. The chasm between fantasy and reality is called governing. And governing? It’s a hell of a lot harder than printing slogans on baseball caps or running your mouth on cable news. Add to that a presidency where we actually fix our broken infrastructure without endless delays, protect voting rights instead of suppressing them, reform criminal justice without photo ops, confront climate change with action—not empty talk—and rebuild alliances that Trump burned down faster than you can say “fake news.” All necessary. All urgent. All impossible to pull off with smoke and mirrors. Here’s the brutal truth: if we keep letting Trump and his dystopian circus of grifters sell us a future built on lies and nostalgia for a past that never existed, we’re heading toward a place where reality is not just ignored—it’s criminalized. We’ll wake up in an upside-down country where facts are treason, truth is weakness, and authoritarianism is marketed as “strength” with a MAGA hat on top. Want to talk groceries for a second? Try shopping for freedom in this authoritarian supermarket. All you’ll find is expired truth, canned rage, and aisle after aisle of gaslight specials: buy one lie, get two denials free. Reality. It’s the one thing this administration fears more than accountability, more than the truth, more than the light of day. And it’s exactly what we need now more than ever. Because once we stop demanding it—once we stop insisting on truth, facts, and something as basic as reality—we aren’t just watching democracy die a slow death… THIS IS A CRITICAL PERSONAL APPEAL If you’re reading this, you’re already part of the resistance. You believe in truth. In justice. In dragging the roaches of corruption into the light. But let me be brutally honest: I can’t do this without you. This isn't just another newsletter; it's a war cry. A movement. A battering ram aimed at the liars, the grifters, and the authoritarian wannabes hijacking our democracy. And we need to grow this platform into a voice so loud, so relentless, that they can’t spin it, silence it, or shut it down. I’m calling on you—not passively asking, but urgently demanding—to fuel this fight. We are the last line of defense between democracy and dictatorship. And yes, as a small token of my appreciation, the first 240 Founding Members will receive a signed, numbered, limited Substack edition of my New York Times bestseller, Revenge: How Donald Trump Weaponized the U.S. Department of Justice Against His Critics. It’s not just a collector’s item. It’s a declaration of where you stood when history came calling. But this isn’t about a book. Here’s how you can raise your voice:
You want to make a difference? This is your moment. Let’s be impossible to ignore. Meidas+ is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support our work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
