While the White House has spent months trying to bury the Epstein files, a small bipartisan commission in Santa Fe just fired 14 subpoenas at the people and institutions that allegedly let it all happen. They are going after Epstein’s own estate. They are going after the FBI and the DOJ. They are going after Deutsche Bank and JP Morgan Chase — the two banks that allegedly moved his money for years while women were being abused on his ranch. They are going after state agencies, the governor’s office, local law enforcement, and a prestigious scientific research center that allegedly received at least $680,000 in Epstein donations.
No political theater. No press conference grandstanding. Just a $2 million budget and a mandate to find the truth.
This is what accountability looks like when Washington refuses to provide it.
On June 1, survivors stood before the commission and told their stories. Rachel, who alleges she was abused by Epstein at his Zorro Ranch after being hired as a massage therapist, told the commission: “In 2019, when Jeffrey Epstein was arrested, I spoke out about the sexual abuse and crimes he committed against me. I am here again today in 2026 as a 52-year-old woman speaking out, trying to find truth and justice — and still no answers.”
Seven years. Still no answers.
Virginia Giuffre’s family was also there. Giuffre, one of Epstein’s most prominent alleged victims, died by suicide last year. Her sister-in-law Amanda Roberts called the commission’s work “an opportunity to finally turn the page from secrecy and impunity toward real accountability and real justice.”

They are not just looking at what Epstein did. They are looking at who helped him do it.
Meanwhile in Washington, Pam Bondi couldn’t find her voice.
Pam Bondi sat for four hours of closed-door questioning before the House Oversight Committee on May 29. She refused to answer whether Trump had any involvement in the handling or withholding of the Epstein files. Not once. Bondi was not under oath. The interview was not videotaped because for the Republicans their “investigation” seems more of a distraction than a serious probe into the truth.
After all, according to former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, their leader, Trump called Greene personally and screamed at her for pushing to release the files. She says he told her: “Marjorie, my friends will get hurt.” She says he told her: “People you know, Marjorie, people at Mar-a-Lago. They’re going to get hurt.”
Thankfully New Mexico is far away from Washington and has the courage and the legal basis to uncover the truth. Rep. Andrea Romero, who chairs the commission, put it plainly: the abuses at Zorro Ranch “went ignored here for over 20 years.” State authorities have reopened a criminal investigation that was closed in 2019 at the request of the DOJ. It searched the ranch in March. The commission has a tip line. They are building a referral package for prosecution.
They are doing the work that Republicans in Washington can’t, or won’t.
The acting attorney general, Todd Blanche, said in April that the Epstein files “should not be a part of anything going forward.” Trump told Americans to move on. The former attorney general took four hours to say nothing.
New Mexico is not moving on.
And somewhere, 14 institutions are about to get a subpoena from a state legislature operating with $2 million and no patience left for silence.
The survivors have been waiting years for someone to take them seriously. Four lawmakers on a perfectly named the truth commission, just did.
