Now, Trump has ratcheted up his violent rhetoric, promising a "bloodbath" if he is not reelected. In the criminal justice system, the law provides that if someone on pretrial release poses a danger to even a single person in the community, they should be revoked on release and detained pending trial. Will prosecutors, the courts and the institutions of government receive Trump's latest violent rhetoric - signaling to his supporters that he expects them to respond with violence if he loses - with a shrug?
