All you need to know about the state of the Republican Party

Ayanna Pressley for congress

House Republicans have spent this week debating who should be the next Speaker of the House after a small group of extremists initiated the ousting of McCarthy last week. I’m here to tell you that the way things are going, no matter who Republicans end up choosing — we can expect we’re just going to get McCarthy 2.0, or even worse.

The current options for Speaker are a litany of extremists who support national bans on abortion, voted against certifying the results of the 2020 election, have ties to the KKK and neo-Nazi groups, and have damaged our democracy — deliberately.

And that’s all you need to know about the state of the Republican Party.

So again, if Republicans are interested in governing, I welcome them to join Democrats and vote for Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker of the House so we can get to work on passing legislation that helps the people who sent us here.

Meanwhile, I’m going to continue doing what the people of Massachusetts’ 7th district sent me here to do: advance policies that center marginalized communities, and fight back against legislation that intends to inflict harm. If you’re able, please donate $10.00 or anything you can to resist Republican extremism and power our movement for a more just world.

I’ll keep you updated on what comes next.

Yours in service,

Ayanna

To every organizer who fought so hard, this victory is yours.

Ayanna Pressley

Joe Biden just canceled thousands of dollars of student debt.

For nearly two years, we have organized, mobilized, and advocated for President Biden to use his executive authority to cancel federal student loan debt.

We pressed for this on behalf of and in partnership with families across America—the Black and brown folks, the women, the students, the workers, the elderly, the parents, the teachers, the young people, and more—who have been devastated by this nearly $2 trillion crisis.

We urged the President to make good on his promise to cancel student debt and bring meaningful relief to our families in this moment of overlapping crises—and today he acted. The President’s action today will change lives for the better.

By reducing the unjust burden of student debt, this action will help millions of people to make ends meet, build generational wealth, grow their families, purchase homes, and more. I will continue to advocate and work with the Administration to ensure this relief is implemented as swiftly and efficiently as possible.

We would not be here today if it were not for the broad and diverse coalition working relentlessly to make this moment possible. Today is a victory for the movement and for so many families.

There are so many issues of consequence facing our communities and, together, we will celebrate the victories and keep up the fight for meaningful, transformational policies.

In solidarity,

Ayanna Pressley

The communities we call home

Ayanna Pressley

Hi, it’s Ed Markey, Senator from Massachusetts.

I’m proud to have just endorsed Ayanna Pressley for re-election. Ayanna is a champion for people in the Massachusetts 7th, across our Commonwealth, and around the country.

Ahead of Election Day this fall, Ayanna’s team is hard at work to reach voters across the MA-07, help folks make a plan to get to the polls, and make sure Ayanna is re-elected.

From advocating for fare-free public transit and environmental justice to essential criminal legal reforms and access to housing, I'm so glad to work side-by-side with Ayanna, in Washington and in the communities we call home.

Ayanna doesn't back down from the hard work necessary to make real, lasting progress, and with your support we will send her back to Congress with a renewed mandate to keep making bold, inclusive change. Please join me in supporting Ayanna’s reelection campaign today by contributing any amount you can.

Thank you,

Ed Markey

Misinformation

Ayanna Pressley

This is urgent.

A Republican-linked dark-money group just launched misleading ads online and in text messages to voters, spreading misinformation about Ayanna and her commitment to fighting climate change and advancing environmental justice.

This is just the latest example of right-wing attempts to erode support for Ayanna and fracture our progressive movement. With three months until the general election, we need to fight back now.

Ayanna is working every day to legislate with intention and urgency to address racial, social, economic, and environmental injustice, and she is a bold, effective leader in our fight for progressive change.

This new attack on Ayanna is proof that Republicans are scared of the massive support we’ve built inside and outside of Congress, and are resorting to intentionally misleading voters in an attempt to slow our momentum. And we know the far-right won’t stop.

Contribute $10 to Ayanna’s re-election campaign so we can fight back now and keep her in Congress, legislating, advocating, and organizing for progress.

Thank you for supporting Ayanna’s re-election campaign today. Our movement is strong because of supporters like you.

In solidarity,

The A-Team

In community

Ayanna Pressley

This last weekend was a busy one for Ayanna and the A-Team.

She launched a canvass in Dorchester, aimed at organizing folks around the importance of voting and helping people make a plan to vote who don't have one already:

Ayanna attended Festival Betances, an annual celebration of Latinx heritage and culture held at Villa Victoria, an affordable housing development in Boston that was created 50+ years ago and has become a national model:

Ayanna attended the Boston While Black Family Reunion, a day-long celebration of Black experiences, community and culture:

And, along with all of that, Ayanna also gave a speech to the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Convention in Boston, where she spoke to thousands of educators about the role they play as defenders of democracy and community builders.

Ayanna is dedicated to community organizing, and as we approach November 8th, it’s so important that we have the resources to support this campaign to re-elect Ayanna, so she can continue to lead on so many issues of consequence and create change for our communities.

Will you contribute $10 today to help Ayanna stay out there on the campaign trail and engage with voters across MA-07?

Together we will continue to fight for the progress that our communities deserve.

In solidarity,

The A-Team

Nervous, Excited, Hopeful

Ayanna Pressley

My husband Conan and I just visited the Secretary of the Commonwealth to collect the nomination papers I need to get on the ballot and officially run for re-election to Congress:

Now, we need to collect 2,000 signatures from registered voters in MA-07, and we need the resources to support an inclusive, intentional organizing effort that engages people throughout the Massachusetts 7th district.

I remember how Conan and I both felt — nervous, excited, hopeful — the first time we pulled papers in 2018. Those feelings are still there. But, looking back at the challenges we’ve faced these last three years, I’m proud of the progress we’ve made.

I’m so thankful for your support and faith. I hope to continue earning your trust and partnership — because our work is far from over. Our communities are still hurting. Justice has yet to be realized for too many. Change (still) Can’t Wait.

Our staff and volunteers are mobilizing to engage folks in every part of the MA-07. Please support our organizers and volunteers right now by contributing any amount that you can afford.

Thank you so much for your support. I am so grateful that you’re a part of this movement.

In Solidarity,
Ayanna
