In this video, MeidasTouch contributor Tennessee Brando slams the Trump and MAGA response to wildfires in California. The moment disaster struck, Donald Trump and right-wing influencers instantly began playing politics and spreading disinformation as people lost their homes and their lives. Brando critiques Trump for putting the blame for the fires on California Governor Gavin Newsom, calling him "Gavin Newscum," and lying about Newsom being at fault for the fires because of policies that led to insufficient water for fighting the fires.
Brando points out that while it may be expected that MAGA in his home state of Tennessee may make jokes out of the California fires, there are plenty of Trump supporters in California who are currently being affected. How do they feel about Trump mocking their state and refusing to help just because they have a Democratic governor? Trump’s response is clearly based on him being threatened by Newsom and other Democratic governors who may be legitimate contenders to replace him in 2028.
Brando explains how there can never be unity in the United States while Trump is the leader of a political movement, because he only thrives on division and disunity and pushes his supporters to adopt those attitudes. He contrasts this with President Biden’s disaster response in North Carolina, where even the Republican governors acknowledged how much federal support was given. He emphasizes his disbelief at the continued support for Trump, particularly given his behavior during crises.
