ICU nurse Alex Pretti and mother Renee Good are dead at the hands of federal agents.
Tell Congress: No more money for ICE violence. Call your Senator before the Jan 30 deadline.

Alex Pretti was a 37-year-old VA ICU nurse, a lawful gun owner, and a US citizen who was shot by federal agents on January 24, 2026, while filming their activities. This was the third fatal federal shooting in Minneapolis in 17 days, following the death of Renee Good on January 7.

Congress is currently debating the FY2026 DHS Appropriations Bill; the current stopgap funding expires on January 30, making this the critical window for constituents to call their representatives.

These are not isolated incidents. ICE must get out NOW and Congress must stop giving them our money! Today, deportation agents killed yet another Minneapolis resident. Killing is wrong. Period. Nobody should have their life ended at the hands of a state-sanctioned secret police. ICE makes our communities less safe — bringing danger to every city they attack. These untrained, masked ICE agents are creating chaos on purpose. These are not isolated incidents, it is a dangerous pattern. They are killing our residents, taking our children, pepper spraying our teenagers, going house to house interrogating our neighbors, and targeting immigrants and non-immigrants alike. You could be walking down the street from your home, and they can grab you, shoot you, and kill you if they claim you as a threat. No questions asked. No matter your political affiliation, no one wants a government with masked agents who can kill for any reason with no recourse. Americans want lower prices, safe neighborhoods and better economic opportunities for our families, not people being gunned down in our neighborhoods. — Read more

MIDDLEBORO REVIEW AND SO ON

As we commemorate the birthday of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. today, let us remember that he once said:

There is nothing new about poverty. What is new, however, is that we have the resources to get rid of it… In the final analysis, the rich must not ignore the poor because both rich and poor are tied in a single garment of destiny.”1

The United States is the richest country in the world, and yet we’re seeing more people struggle to afford food, housing, and health care during this administration. We’ve seen this administration weaponize SNAP nutrition benefits during the government shutdown, seeking to punish more than 41 million people who rely on food assistance.

This administration is fine with millions of people and families going hungry and going without health care in order to pay for tax cuts for the rich and corporations.2

But we are not staying silent. We are resisting, we are raising our voices, and we are peacefully fighting back through mass mobilizations and continued advocacy. Last year, we sent over 2 million messages to Congress and governors, demanding they stand up for our rights and our democracy.

Donate $5 today to power our campaigns to fight back against this cruel administration and create a better future for all of us.

DONATE TODAY

Whether it’s cuts to SNAP or Medicaid, denying immigrants due process, illegally deploying troops in our streets, or handing trillions of dollars in tax cuts to the rich and corporations while denying our communities the resources we need to survive, none of this is acceptable.

Poverty is a policy choice. And this administration keeps making that choice over and over. Together, through activism and advocacy, we are holding them accountable and working to overturn the harm.

Rush a donation of $5 today to power our resistance, peacefully fighting back against this administration’s relentless attacks.

Thank you for all you do,

-- MEREDITH'S EMAIL --

This coming week represents one year into Trump’s second term. We’re holding him accountable.

The Trump administration has frozen funds, dismantled entire government agencies, fired federal workers, and disregarded laws passed by Congress. They are abducting immigrants without regard to due process, deporting people despite court orders, and arresting, assaulting, and killing citizens.

But, together, our resistance is stronger than their campaign of terror.

We’re working hand-in-hand with our national grassroots allies and our champions in Congress to hold Trump accountable and stop this authoritarian regime.

Whether it’s national mass mobilizations, educating people about their rights and how to peacefully resist, sending hundreds of thousands of messages to Congress, or ensuring organizers on the ground have the tools they need to mobilize their communities, help power our peaceful resistance by rushing a donation of $5 or more today.

DONATE TODAY

Over the summer, Trump signed his Big Brutal Bill into law. This legislation supercharged Trump’s mass deportation machine, sending $170 billion to DHS and ICE by making draconian cuts to critical human needs programs like SNAP and Medicaid.

Now, Congress is finalizing 2026 funding bills and some want to send even more money to ICE to expand their inhumane detention centers, when more people died in ICE custody last year than in any of the previous 20 years.

Even now, as we’re watching ICE and Customs and Border Protection incite chaos in our streets and attack our friends and neighbors, we’re working with allies in Congress and on the ground to make sure the Trump administration doesn’t increase funding for the mass deportation machine that has already ruined countless lives. None of this peaceful resistance is possible without your support.

Power our peaceful resistance with a donation of $5 today and help remind Trump and his enablers that there are no kings in America.

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your secure donation will go through immediately:

Why is Your Tax Bill Funding $197,000 Salaries for ICE Agents?

Democrats seek to rein in ICE, Noem after fatal Minneapolis shooting — The Hill ICE agents can get paid over $197,000 with your tax dollars Nurses, teachers and firemen get paid much less. Who contributes more to society? Why were standards to become an ICE agent lowered? Who voted to give ICE $170 billion?

Why are senior ICE agents reaching $197,200 salaries while Medicare and Medicaid face historic cuts? We break down the “One Big Beautiful Bill” (OBBBA), the $170 billion funding surge for mass deportations, and the JD Vance tie-breaking vote that prioritized enforcement over healthcare.

Following the tragic shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, taxpayers are asking: Why do we pay $197K for federal agents with zero accountability? Explore the $170 billion ICE expansion map and see which representatives voted to slash Medicare to fund the largest police state in U.S. history.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) significantly lowered recruitment requirements in 2025, primarily by removing age limits (allowing 18-year-olds and older candidates without an upper cap), cutting training time, and offering incentives like signing bonuses and student loan forgiveness to boost hiring, leading to concerns from critics about potential drops in vetting quality and agent readiness. Key Changes in Requirements & Incentives — Google

Age: Removed age caps, allowing applicants as young as 18 and older candidates Training: Reduced the academy training program length by about half (from six months to roughly six weeks). Incentives: Introduced up to $50,000 signing bonuses, student loan repayment, and premium pay. Spanish-Language: Removed the Spanish-language requirement. Hiring Process: Gained direct hire authority to speed up hiring.  Enforce accountability. Curb ICE violence. “Do not be giving money for an increase in the ICE budget. We should be fighting this.” — Ro Khanna Ban face masks for federal immigration officers and require that they show warrants prior to arrests. — Chris Murphy — The Hill Explore this map Slashing Medicare to fund ICE

The Republican “ Big, Beautiful Bill”  cuts  about $170 billion  from Medicare, Social Security and food stamps  to give ICE. The funding is more than the federal government spent on immigration detention during the previous three presidential administrations, combined, according to  a Washington Post analysis .

This makes ICE “the single largest federal law enforcement agency in the history of the nation.” The bill’s  tax and Medicaid cuts  are forecast to add  $3.3 trillion to the deficit  and cause 11.8 million more people to go without health coverage. —  Indpendent
