His ears flick at every sound, his body shaking with fear.
He doesn’t know why he was stolen, or why men circle with ropes and machetes.
He only knows something terrible is about to happen.
In hidden slaughter sites across Kenya, animals like him are beaten with hammers, hacked with blades, and left to die in agony. |

Donkeys live in terror as traffickers close in. |
Once they collapse, their skins are ripped away and shipped to China to be boiled into ejiao, a substance used in cosmetics and so-called medicines.
The suffering is relentless.
Mothers are killed while still carrying unborn foals.
Young donkeys are taken before they even know what safety is.
The slaughter leaves behind not just broken bodies but broken bonds — frightened animals forced to witness others die before their turn comes. |

More than half of Kenya’s donkeys are already gone. |
Despite a ban, at least 10,000 skins were smuggled out last year alone.
At least 400 donkeys are slaughtered daily, and more vanish into this black market of cruelty.
Donkeys are gentle, social beings who deserve safety and peace.
Instead, they are being butchered on an industrial scale for a product nobody needs. Kenya has already banned commercial donkey slaughter. |

The African Union has called for a continent-wide ban.
Yet the killing continues in secret, driven by smugglers and traffickers who see only money where lives should matter.
Without urgent action, experts warn that Kenya’s donkeys could be wiped out within a decade. |
