As a European, this story is one of the least shocking ones that we hear over here. How about arresting a young british girl because she was backpacking through the US, and when the police stopped her for an identity check, she told them that she either sleeps in her tent, or asks people for a place to sleep, and in return then did some chores around the house. That was not a smart move: she had a tourist visa and that doesn't allow you to work in the US. Yup: because she confessed to 'working' (doing some chores in return for a place to sleep), ICE was called and she was imprisoned for 19 days in a cel where the lights were on 24/7. She was malnourished when she was finally deported. During her imprisonment she was denied sanitary pads and had to make do with toilet paper. She was brought to the airplane on which she was deported in shackles like we see in the movie 'silence of the lambs'. That was filmed by the (British) crew from the airplane. Now do you tonedeaf americans understand why people all over the world avoid traveling to the US if possible? You have always had a very dubious reputation because of police brutality, but now you are going full gestapo.
German here. The US is not a destination for holidays anymore. Like I don't go to Russia, China or North Korea either. Just go to parts of the world where normal people live...
59yo German. I do not take kindly to anyone abusing teenage girls, let alone from my country. Curtailing their freedom of movement and putting them in prison together with real criminals without the slightest excuse is in my opinion a form of abuse, whatever ICE says. I am sorry for all decemt Americans whose reputation is ruined by those thugs in uniform. But as we Germans once learned the hard way, voting evil bullies into government tends to have bad consequences for everyone.
I'm European . Anybody I know will not visit USA till Trump pass away

The Trump administration deported two German tourists that had traveled to Hawaii after holding them in detention for over 24 hours. The "crime" that the two women committed was that they hadn't pre-booked a hotel, which the administration thought could be an indicator that they were there to commit crimes. Not only was there no evidence to support this accusation, but the punishment comes AFTER the crime, not before it. Farron Cousins explains what's happening.
