Tell Congress to finally act: pass an ACA tax credit extension now

Last week, before Congress went home for the holidays, four Republicans joined House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries' discharge petition to force a vote in the House to extend the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced premium tax credits.1 Now that the discharge petition has 218 signers, the House must vote on the measure when it comes back in January. If the House passes a clean extension of the subsidies, it increases the likelihood that the Senate could act quickly. Send a message to your Senators and Representative urging them to act immediately in January to vote on and pass an extension of the enhanced ACA premium tax credits. SEND A MESSAGE With out-of-pocket premiums more than doubling for tens of millions of people in the New Year, this sets people up with impossible choices between having health insurance or having enough money to pay for other necessities like housing. In November, we asked supporters across the country to share their stories with us, after they knew what their increased costs would be if Congress did not extend their tax credits. Here are some: From Cincinnati, OH: “I am a senior living on my pension and savings, and my monthly ACA health insurance premiums just rose from $10.07 to $293.57. Needless to say, I can't afford government healthcare anymore even though my taxes fund it and the healthcare that ALL of Congress enjoys. This is taxation without representation AND a backdoor way to privatize all healthcare in this country.” From Omaha, NE: “I’m a 64-year-old woman who recently lost my job due to a reduction in force. My husband is a retired minister and qualifies for Medicare. While I was employed, my ACA health insurance cost was just under $300 a month. Now, without the tax credits, my ACA premium will jump to $950 a month. I have several health issues, so going without insurance isn’t an option.” These stories represent the millions of people who will suffer if the ACA premium tax credits aren’t extended. [TAKE ACTION] The Senate must reconfirm Lauren McFerran to the NLRB now

 

We’ve seen an immense amount of worker power over the past 4 years. From strikes that led to increased wages and benefits for workers, to a ban on “captive audience” meetings, workers have won big since 2020. All of that progress is at risk if the Senate doesn’t do its job and confirm Lauren McFerran to a second term on the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Chairwoman McFerran has already served one term and has been renominated for another. She has the backing of the AFL-CIO and the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers.1,2 We have made huge strides for workers and there’s still more to be gained, but we can’t do it if we lose one of the most pro-worker chairs on the NLRB. Send a direct message to the Senate and tell them to reconfirm NLRB Chairwoman Lauren McFerran before the December 16th deadline. SIGN & SEND If Chairwomen McFerran is not reconfirmed, the incoming administration will gain two board seats and shift the balance to an anti-worker majority. Corporations like Amazon, SpaceX, and Trader Joe's are challenging the constitutionality of the National Labor Relations Act, while Project 2025 and the incoming Trump administration threaten to undermine worker protections. Even OSHA's new proposed heat standard rule is under threat. Project 2025 lays out a blueprint for the incoming administration as it pertains to labor unions: make it easier to decertify union elections, reduce the NLRB’s ability to investigate unfair labor practices, and reduce overtime pay.3 The only beneficiaries of these policies will be multi-billion dollar corporations and the wealthy who run and own them.
