BREAKING: Trump’s “Energy Ceasefire” Exposed Instantly as a LIE!! Zelenskyy Says It Was “News to Me,” Russia Calls It “Market Manipulation,” and Corporate Media Fell for It Again
Trump announced a Russia-Ukraine energy truce on social media while diesel and gas prices climb. Neither country had heard of it, and the alerts went out anyway.
Donald Trump woke up Sunday and announced peace, at least for oil refineries. “Effective immediately, there is an Energy Ceasefire in the War between Russia and Ukraine,” he posted. “Both parties have agreed. Do not break it. Thank you for your attention to this matter.” Corporate outlets pushed out “ceasefire” alerts within minutes, taking him at his word.
Within hours the story fell apart, because neither of the “parties” knew anything about it. It was a lie.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told Axios’s Barak Ravid by phone that the announcement “was news to me.” He added that if Russia agreed to stop striking energy infrastructure, Ukraine would too: “If President Trump agreed to this with Putin, please let us know when the ceasefire begins. We are ready.” Zelenskyy then publicly called the bluff. After calls with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and NATO’s Secretary General, he posted that Ukraine supports the ceasefire Trump announced, that Russia needs to support it as well, and that Kyiv is “awaiting details from the American side.”
Moscow was less polite. The first deputy chairman of the Russian Duma’s Energy Committee said the committee knew nothing about any energy truce and called the announcement a market play. “We all know that Trump often says things to keep oil prices down, so-called verbal interventions,” he said. “I don’t know how true this is.” When even the Kremlin’s own legislature calls your peace deal a pump-and-dump... Wow!
Trump offered no details. His next posts were old photos of himself with Mike Tyson and a celebration of Kid Rock calling the press “public enemy number one” at a rally.
The timing is no mystery. Diesel and gas prices keep climbing, and Trump is facing bipartisan condemnation for his Russian diesel deal: Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent lifted sanctions and issued a general license allowing Russian diesel into the United States. That move appears to conflict with the Ending Importation of Russian Oil Act of 2022, which requires the administration to certify to Congress before the ban can be lifted, and with the 2017 sanctions law Trump himself signed, which gives Congress 30 days to review and potentially block Russia sanctions relief. We believe that Bessent, who has no presidential immunity, violated the law and could face prosecution later. On Sunday shows, Bessent blamed Europe, calling European objections to “a respite in diesel pricing” “completely hypocritical.”
Hours before Trump’s post, Zelenskyy had seemed to anticipate it. On ABC he said prices are rising “because of the war in Middle East,” including the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz, and that tying them to Ukraine is easier than confronting Putin. “Don’t play games with people,” he said. He offered Putin a simpler deal: “Don’t attack us. Don’t kill our children. We will stop attack your diesel.”
Asked why the Trump administration keeps blaming Ukraine, he said it’s because “it’s more difficult to stop Putin than to pressure others.” He also rejected Trump’s claim that Ukraine needs a new president: “It’s up to our society, up to our people to choose.”
Meanwhile, the war Trump started is still escalating. On Sunday the IRGC struck another tanker in the Gulf of Oman. That brings the total close to 20 tankers hit in roughly 10 days, many of them while trying ship-to-ship transfers along the Omani coast to get around the Strait of Hormuz. Tankers that make it out reportedly earn $1.5 million a day, which is why they keep trying. In Saudi Arabia, Terminal 4 of Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport was struck one day after a strike on Terminal 3 killed about 12 people, including one American civilian, and injured more than 320. Over the past two weeks, airports in Riyadh, Abha, Dammam, Khamis Mushait, Najran, and Jazan have all been hit. Bessent’s response this morning was that Iran will soon “cry uncle.” He said the same thing on September 24. In April he said Iran had three days left. In March, Trump said the war would be over in four to six weeks. These people are liars. And they are flailing as the situation continues to get worse as midterms approach.
Senator Chris Murphy, back from the region, said he was denied access to U.S. bases that he says Iran “obliterated” within days of the war starting, including the naval base in Bahrain and the air base in Qatar. “There is a cover up underway,” Murphy said, aimed at hiding the cost of the war from the American public and from Congress.
So to wrap up the big news just in: Trump announced a fake ceasefire, Ukraine and Russia both debunked it, and the newsrooms that amplified it owe readers a correction. Trump’s own announcements are not evidence of anything until they are confirmed by outside parties, and the media keeps having to relearn that.
