Howard Schultz is a literal monster

Howard Schultz, a ludicrously out-of-touch billionaire CEO (who Hillary Clinton allegedly planned on installing as the Secretary of Labor if she didn’t run the single worst campaign in modern history and lose to Donald Trump) is getting his butt kicked by Starbucks workers in their fight to unionize.

That’s why Bernie Sanders is touring America to stand up to corporate power and demand CEOs – like Howard Schultz – stop UNION-BUSTING.

Howard Schultz lied to union organizers and ok’d retaliation tactics like firing workers and threatening to strip healthcare for transgender employees. We can’t let this corporate thuggery stand.

Our Revolution is standing with Bernie to stop the corporate assault on workers’ rights. We’re leading the fight to help low-wage workers ORGANIZE by advocating for real labor law reform on the state and federal levels!

The sad truth is that for the past few decades, wages have not kept up with the rising costs of healthcare, education, childcare, and other basic necessities for working families.

The reason is simple: Union membership in the US has been pushed to record lows.

The resurgence of the labor movement happening now in this country is a beacon of strength for our movement.

Stand with Our Revolution as we support Starbucks workers – and all workers who are being crushed by corporate greed. Rush a donation to help us take on corporate power and WIN!

In solidarity,

Our Revolution

NEWS: Judge strikes down Florida congressional maps discriminate against Black voters in North Florida

We fund voter protection

This really important news coming out of Tallahassee, Florida shows that this fight for voting rights isn’t about political parties — it’s about our democracy and our voters.

A judge in Florida just rejected a redistricting map that scattered 370,000 Black voters in North Florida across four different congressional districts and, in the process, eliminated a minority congressional district.

One commentator called the map “darn close to the most egregiously partisan map in the country.”

Republicans tried to diminish Black voters’ impact and they lost. Incredibly, the judge who struck down the map is Judge J. Layne Smith – a judge appointed by Republican governor Ron DeSantis.

This is part of a broader trend in Florida. As Judge Walker recently recognized, when he struck down portions of Florida’s voter suppression law, “Florida has repeatedly sought to make voting tougher for Black voters.”

It’s up to us to ensure that Black voters’ voices are heard.

We have seen first hand that barriers to voting are designed to disenfranchise voters of color. This is exactly why we’re working so hard to defend voting rights. Our mission is to fund and support permanent, year-round voter protection teams who can work to dismantle barriers to voting and ensure that every voter can have their voice heard in our democracy.

Please help us continue our ground-breaking voter protection efforts in key swing states this year by contributing any amount right away

As judges and leaders across the country start to take a stand on this key issue, we need to be sure we’re ready to stand up beside them.

Thank you for supporting our work today,

Power the Vote

We Fund Voter Protection

In 2020, we ran the Democratic Party’s Voter Protection Program in Georgia, when the state flipped blue for the first time in nearly 30 years.

We pioneered a new model of voter protection, built on sustained investments and long-lasting relationships.

Now, we’re building on that success and adapting the Georgia model to fight voter suppression in other states.

Black Lives Matter. Black Healing Matters. Black Joy Matters.

Ayanna Pressley

My family and I have celebrated Juneteenth for decades, but this year marks only the 2nd year that Juneteenth will be observed as a federal holiday.

Some may wonder, what is the significance of this day and why is national recognition long overdue and notable? It matters, because as we celebrate Juneteenth—the emancipation of my enslaved ancestors—it is a truth-telling reminder of our nation's history and founding, but also of what is possible.

When enslaved Black people and allies began the work of abolition, many considered the goal of freedom an improbable or impossible one.

But because of their imaginations and sacrifice, it did happen. And while we recognize that our fight for equity and justice continues today, on this day, we celebrate the Black family, our culture, melanin, resilience, brilliance, and our joy.

We affirm our humanity. We are more than hashtags, sobering statistics, deficits, disparities, and gaps. We are more than our labor, the resistance, and justice-seekers.

From the heart of Texas to kitchen tables in Roxbury, we celebrate the dedicated coalition of Black folx who organized to make this celebration a federal holiday.

Black Lives Matter. Black Healing Matters. Black Joy Matters. Happy Juneteenth.

In solidarity,

Ayanna Pressley

The author on her close friend Toni Morrison, her fear of rodents and a 24-hour flight without smoking

Born in New Jersey, Fran Lebowitz, 71, had a column in Andy Warhol’s Interview magazine in the 1970s. Her first book, a collection of essays entitled Metropolitan Life, became a bestseller, as did her second, Social Studies. In 2021, her documentary series Pretend It’s a City premiered on Netflix and was nominated for an Emmy. She lives in New York City and brings her show An Evening with Fran Lebowitz to the UK later this month.

When were you happiest?
The moment I realised I knew how to read. I was five.

What is your greatest fear?
Rodents – including the tiniest mouse.

Which living person do you most admire, and why?
At the moment, Ukraine’s president.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
Sloth.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Interrupting.

Apart from property, what’s the most expensive thing you’ve bought?
I spend most of my money on books.

Describe yourself in three words
Extremely extremely exhausted.

What makes you unhappy?
Republicans.

What do you most dislike about your appearance?
I am shocked to see how tired I look.

If you could bring something extinct back to life, what would you choose?
Toni Morrison. She was a very close friend.

Which book are you ashamed not to have read?
There are books I haven’t read, but I’m not ashamed.

Would you choose fame or anonymity?
Here’s the ideal experience: that the flight attendant recognises you, but the guy sitting next to you doesn’t.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?
I never feel guilty about pleasure.

What do you owe your parents?
I don’t believe in debts to people.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?
I would never tell you that.

Have you ever said ‘I love you’ and not meant it?
Many times.

What is the worst job you’ve done?
I just hate to work, so I can’t choose one.

What has been your biggest disappointment?
The supreme court. Specifically the case Bush v Gore, which is where Sandra Day O’Connor – one person – decided the presidential election.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
That I’ve never killed anyone – and I’ve been tempted numerous times. My other achievement is that I went to Australia, which meant I was on a plane without smoking for almost 24 hours, and I didn’t kill anyone on that flight.

What has been your closest brush with the law?
I am very law-abiding.

What keeps you awake at night?
I’ve been awake almost my entire life. I have had insomnia since I was a child.

Would you rather have more sex, money or fame?
Money.

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
Never say “If I were” – in other words, if I were a man, if I were French, if I were black – because it’s meaningless.

How would you like to be remembered?
I don’t care.

My reflections this Juneteenth

Juneteenth

Cheri Beasley for North Carolina

Today marks 157 years since the news of the Emancipation Proclamation, which ended slavery in the United States, finally reached the remaining enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas — two and a half years after it was issued by President Abraham Lincoln.

There have been many collective actions to advance equality and justice for African Americans since that day. And there is still much more work to do.

We face a remarkable opportunity to make history here in 2022 — to acknowledge the hardships and indignities suffered by my ancestors but to assure them that their sacrifices were not in vain. In the ancestors’ despair, they were also believers that one day we would live in an America where opportunity is available to all.

That we are pushing for a fairer, more just America and where we elect people who look like all of North Carolina. This election, and all the many ways we work to make North Carolina stronger, we recommit ourselves to fighting for and standing up for the promise of our nation – that all Americans, regardless of race, gender, class, or creed, have the opportunity for prosperous, safe, and healthy lives.

We fight for civility, honor, and dignity and a nation of courage and integrity. Thank you for being with me in this fight.

– Cheri Beasley

How Many Billions in Profit Is It Worth to Kill 212,000 Americans a Year?
If saving trillions of dollars and millions of lives isn't enough to end political bribery in America, what will it take?

excerpt:

According to Open Secrets, the amount spent just last year bribing Congress to keep our healthcare system in place was $689,466,798.00. Almost three-quarters of a billion dollars.

In exchange, the health insurance industry took home $19 billion in profits last year, hospitals took home over $70 billion in profits, and the pharmaceutical industry made similarly huge profits last year: at least $100 billion.

And that was after each of these three industries—that have a stake in keeping our healthcare system as broken and dysfunctional as possible—had handed out billions in compensation to their senior executives and board members. Not to mention stockholder dividends.
