News Alert: Trump Bloodied But 'Fine' After Apparent Assassination Attempt

Trump Bloodied But 'Fine' After Apparent Assassination Attempt

"Political violence is absolutely unacceptable," said Sen. Bernie Sanders after the apparent shooting.

This is a developing story... Please check back for possible updates...

Update (9:45 pm):

President Joe Biden spoke on Saturday evening about the shooting at former President Donald Trump's campaign rally, saying the attack, like all political violence, was "sick" and "one of the reasons we have to unite this country."

"We cannot condone this," said Biden. "The bottom line is, the Trump rally was a rally that should have been able to be conducted peacefully without any problem... Everybody must condemn it."

When asked if he believed the shooting was an assassination attempt, Biden said, "I have an opinion, but I don't have any facts."

Associated Press reporter Seung Min Kim said on social media on Saturday night that law enforcement agents had recovered "an AR-style rifle" at the scene.

Earlier:

Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, was reportedly in "fine" condition after being wounded in an apparent assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania on Saturday.

The former president appeared to be bleeding from near his ear as he was hurried off stage after a series of pops that sounded like gunshots were heard at the event. The Secret Service then brought him to his motorcade.

A spokesperson for Trump, Steven Cheung, said in a statement that the former president was being examined at a local medical facility.

Richard Goldinger, district attorney for Butler County, Pennsylvania, told the Associated Press that the suspected gunman was dead and that at least one rallygoer had been killed.

The apparent shooting happened just minutes into the campaign event, where Trump had been talking about border crossings and immigration just before the shots rang out.

President Joe Biden was briefed on the incident at about 7:15 pm.

Police cordoned off a section of the bleachers at the rally after the apparent shooting, and the New York Times reported that the Secret Service began "kicking out the press and declaring it a crime scene."

Shortly after the incident, lawmakers from both sides of the aisle issued statements condemning the apparent act of violence against a presidential candidate.

"Violence has NO place in our democracy," said California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a surrogate of the Biden campaign. "My thoughts are with President Trump and everyone impacted at the rally today."

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) called the attack "absolutely unacceptable."

"I am absolutely appalled by the gunshots fired at Donald Trump," said Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.). "Violence is never acceptable in our democracy. I pray he was not seriously hurt and for our deeply divided nation."

Federal agencies including the Department of Justice, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives were mobilizing Saturday evening to assist the Secret Service in responding to the incident.

Sen. Warnock is fighting to end gun violence NOW! (AMAZING!!!)

Text 'JOIN' to 41044

We’re SO grateful for Senator Raphael Warnock!

HERE’S WHY:

FIRST: The U.S. has more gun deaths than EVERY other developed country combined. There have been nearly 250 mass shootings in 2024 alone.

THEN: The far-right Supreme Court legalized “bump stocks,” which turn dangerous guns into even MORE dangerous machine guns. It’s disgusting.

AND NOW: Senator Warnock is taking a stand! He’s fighting to BAN bump stocks and finally put an END to the gun violence epidemic.

Raphael Warnock: It is clear we have not done nearly enough to protect our communities.

Our CBC members are all on board — but the GOP is trying to stop Senator Warnock’s plan in its tracks!

We’re racing to collect 30,000 signatures to force the Senate to pass comprehensive gun safety legislation and prove massive support for ending mass shootings immediately. Please sign >>

BAN BUMP STOCKS! Goal: 30,000 Signatures

Gun safety legislation would change EVERYTHING:

  1. It would ban bump stocks, once and for all!
  2. It would require universal background checks for gun purchases.
  3. It would halt the sale of deadly weapons used at war, like AR-15s.
  4. It would prevent mass shootings that have plagued our country.

That’s why Senator Warnock is taking a stand against the Supreme Court right now!

We CANNOT afford to lose even one more life to gun violence. It’s past time for mass shootings to end forever.

If you agree with Senator Warnock that we need to end gun violence NOW, please be one of the 30,000 signatures we need by midnight to urge the Senate to take action >>

defying the odds

A victim of the system and enmeshed in trying circumstances, my biological mother turned to drugs and crime while she was pregnant with me.

She didn’t have healthcare during this time and wasn’t able to see a doctor even once.

As the mother of seven, she made the difficult decision to put me up for adoption because she lacked the resources to care and raise another child.

I learned all of this just two months before I announced my run for Congress.

Understanding my biological mother’s story and the circumstances surrounding my birth underscored for me why politics is so important. And it further crystallized my core vision of it - that we need our elected leaders who view the world through the eyes of the most vulnerable.

My community needs a leader like that in Congress and I’m running to be that person - someone that fights every day for and with the marginalized and disadvantaged. A champion for working people.

This isn’t new for me though. I’ve been fighting for my community since I was 15 years old when I became an advocate for ending gun violence following the Sandy Hook shooting.

After the death of George Floyd, I became one of the lead Black Lives Matters organizers in Orlando, where I went out every day to fight for justice and Black lives. I was beaten by cops, tear-gassed, and jailed for those efforts.

In 2018, I helped lead the ACLU of Florida’s fight to win Amendment 4, which restored voting rights to over 1.6 million Floridians who had previous felony convictions.

While at the ACLU in 2020, I worked to win Biden’s support for abolishing the Hyde Amendment, legislation that has limited abortion access for millions of people.

As Organizing Director at March for Our Lives, one of the largest youth political movements in the country, I led an ambitious voter turnout program that helped drive a record number of young people to the polls, helping to hold the House, and win a Democratic Senate, and Presidency.

I share all of this with you, so you understand the kind of leader I am and will be.

I didn’t make it this far on my own and I’m going to need your support to continue my fight in Congress. I need to raise another $3,752 to hit my midnight goal in 10 hours. Please, if you can, chip in $31 right now >>

I wouldn’t be asking for your help if there wasn’t so much at stake.

Our society is structured in a way that makes life more difficult for the most vulnerable among us. A system that makes it nearly impossible to earn a living wage, obtain access to healthcare, and escape gun violence.

And right now, they’re raking in millions in GOP dark money to maintain power and shut out anyone who tries to challenge their destructive policies.

I’m ready to fight back in Congress, but if my campaign doesn’t have the funds to get me there, our voices will continue to be silenced. We can’t let that happen.

Your help can make all the difference. I’m counting on grassroots donors to get me to the finish line. Can you chip in just $31 to my campaign before my critical midnight deadline?

Thank you,

Maxwell Alejandro Frost

this is not normal.

Hello Team,

My heart is with the families of the victims and all the people who survived the shooting at Robb Elementary school this week. I saw the news right before a protest against book bans here in Florida. The devastating news left me barely able to get through my remarks.

It was a devastatingly familiar experience. When I was 15 years old, grabbing a bite to eat before my school jazz band concert, I saw news of the Sandy Hook tragedy. I was shaken, unable to play well at the concert or sleep that night.

I pooled enough money together from various neighborhood chores to make the journey to Washington D.C. and join the lobbying effort in the nation’s capital. And while the pain and grief of Sandy Hook families will live with them forever, it was there that I vowed I would fight for a future where no family has to feel like they did.

10 years ago, I became an Organizer because of Sandy Hook. 3 years later, I’d become a survivor myself. That same year, Pulse. Now I’m running for Congress and 22 lives were taken at another Elementary school. Children are on the frontlines of the ongoing epidemic of gun violence in this country and yet nothing is done. Leaders here in Florida rather ban books, history, and queer people before they do anything to stop this senseless violence.

I know that in these moments, it is easy to become hopeless. It is easy to believe that this is just a fact of life in our country. I am writing to you today to let you know that: THIS IS NOT NORMAL.

Never forget that behind every statistic, behind every number, there is a human being. There’s a Trayvon Martin. There’s a Peter Wang. There’s a Eva Mireles. All who had hopes, dreams, stories, and loved ones.

Gun Violence Prevention is one of America’s largest failures as a country. Each death is a policy failure.

Yet, even with fighting for a decade, I still have hope. I have hope that we can and will create a world where we can go to school, the store, church, and anywhere without the fear of being gunned down. That’s why I’m running for Congress. I won’t stop fighting until the senseless shootings do and I hope we can continue this struggle side-by-side.

At this moment, families are suffering because of what we have failed to do as a country. Please consider donating to one of these victim funds to help ease their financial burdens at this tragic time:

In Solidarity,

Maxwell Alejandro Frost

Our campaign is growing!

Bowman for Congress

Hey, it's Malia.

I wanted to stop by today because we have some exciting endorsement updates for our campaign. Just this morning, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison endorsed Jamaal and our campaign for re-election in NY-16!

This endorsement serves as a clear sign that even in the midst of uncertainty, our momentum is continuing to build behind Jamaal and our progrssive vision for change. If you stand with Jamaal and our movement, please chip in $10 today to strengthen our campaign to withstand any obstacles that come our way.

AG Ellison had this to say about his recent endorsement,

“If there is anything that I've learned over the years in this field, it's that nothing is more important than electing a representative who shows up for his district and who truly cares about people. Congressman Jamaal Bowman cares about people — regardless of zip code, background, economic background, race, or party affiliation.

We've seen time and again how much Jamaal cares about his constituents and neighbors. He fights day-in and day-out in Congress to make sure that every single person has access to affordable healthcare, a quality education affordable housing, a clean environment, and most importantly to put an end to gun violence and the school to prison pipeline.

Our movement is growing and it's showing no signs of stopping soon. Let's keep up this momentum and show the true strength of our campaign, together. Chip in today to help us build our movement and grow our resources to continue building a stronger NY-16.

Together,

Malia Blake, Digital Director

Enough is ENOUGH.

Rep. Eric Swalwell

I’m angry.

Common sense gun safety legislation is long overdue...

In 2021 alone, we’ve tragically witnessed over 147 mass shootings.

But the NRA has paid off many of my colleagues to stall our legislation to end gun violence.

I’m proud to stand with Brady PAC and fight to end the gun violence epidemic.

But the NRA is desperate. They’re already spending THOUSANDS of dollars on ads to defeat gun violence prevention candidates like me.

So I’m asking for you to join me in this fight. Will you support me and Brady PAC in our fight to end gun violence? >>

I’ll be frank: I’m sick of families coping with the senseless tragedy of gun violence being offered just “thoughts and prayers.”

I’m sick of the constant bloodshed and preventable tragedies on our streets -- the daily tragedies that don't even make national headlines.

Enough is ENOUGH. We can prevent these tragedies by passing legislation like Universal Background Checks, Extreme Risk Protection Orders, and the Assault Weapons Ban of 2021.

But it’s going to be an expensive fight to protect our gun violence prevention majority against the NRA.

We have to keep pushing, full steam ahead. Can I count on your support to end gun violence?

Thank you for fighting for what’s right,

Eric Swalwell

Rep. Eric Swalwell

Joe Biden: US gun violence is an 'international embarrassment.'
The NRA has a sick stranglehold over Washington right now.
And as long as they remain in power, American lives are at risk.
Because they pay politicians to BLOCK life-saving legislation that would prevent gun violence.
So we’re working overtime to defeat the NRA’s allies in Congress. But our work is difficult and expensive. We rely on grassroots donors chipping in $5 or $10 at a time to fuel our campaign. If you want to join the fight to END gun violence in this country,
We know we send you a lot of emails, SORRY!! It’s because of YOU that we’ll take the NRA down for good.
From all of us at Team Brady PAC, thank you for being in this fight!BRADY PAC
