NIKKI HALEY LIED!

 From Occupy Democrats:

BREAKING: Republican 2024 presidential candidate Nikki Haley is humiliated on live national television as Meet the Press host Kristen Welker calls her out on a whopping lie about Pres. Biden and the attacks by Hammas against Israel.
It all started when Welker asked Hailey if she thinks that it is “irresponsible” for her Republican 2024 presidential rivals to falsely accuse Biden of having used “$6 billion” U.S. taxpayer dollars to “fund” the Hammas attacks “without any evidence or proof.”
Haley responding by shamelessly claiming that the money, which hasn’t even been spent yet and can ONLY be spent on humanitarian aid and food, is “spreading terrorism” and is being “moved around as we speak.”
At this point, host Kristen Welker didn’t let her get away from her dangerous lie, cutting her off and putting her own notice that “there's just no proof of that,” and that her fellow Republican presidential candidates and members of Congress started pushing that false attack against President Biden “just hours after that the attacks.”
Then, Welker pressed on, asking Hailey again, “Is it irresponsible to level that charge when you really don't have any evidence of that at this point in time?"
At thins point, Haley had no choice but to point to “evidence” that has nothing to do with yesterday’s attacks, mumbling about “what the Iranian” people have done to “freedom-loving people all over the world.”
Luckily, Welker didn’t let get her away with this, again making it clear to the live viewers that even the Secretary of State came out and said that there is “no link” between the money that was freed by the Biden Administration and green-lighted under the Trump Administration had anything to do with the attacks — and is still sitting in a bank account in Qatar.
Well done, Kristen Welker!👏👏👏
Please hit the 👍 and pass this on to thank NBC host Kristen Welker for setting Nikki Haley straight on live national television and spread the TRUTH about President Biden and the attacks — and consider joining the growing exodus to Tribel, a woke new Twitter competitor that banned Trump for life and is exploding in popularity because Elon Musk banned Tribel’s Twitter account — but he forgot to ban this link to download the new Tribel app: tribel.app.link/okwPIHYCIqb

October 7, 2023 (Saturday) HEATHER COX RICHARDSON

Early this morning, Eastern Daylight Time, Hamas militants broke out of the Gaza Strip, where approximately 2 million Palestinians live, largely unable to leave because of the extensive restrictions Israel has imposed. They pushed as far as 15 miles (about 24 kilometers) into Israel, taking over at least 22 towns and firing at least 2,500 rockets. They have killed at least 250 Israelis, wounded more than 1,500 others, and taken hostages. The attack was a surprise, having an effect on Israelis that observers are comparing to the effect of 9-11 on people in the U.S.
Hamas is a group of Palestinian militants that make up one of the two major political parties in the Palestinian Territories, which consist of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Hamas was established in 1987 and gained control of the Gaza Strip in 2007. Since then, Hamas and the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have periodically exchanged fire. In May 2021 that tension turned into an 11-day conflict that has simmered along the security fence between Israel and Gaza ever since.
In a video address to Israelis, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “We are at war and we will win it.” Israelis have killed at least 232 people and wounded more than 1,700 in retaliation for the attack. He promised the Israeli military will “take revenge for this black day” but that it “will take time.” He warned that Israel would turn “into ruins” the places where Hamas operates, and told residents of Gaza to “get out of there now,” although they have no way to leave.
There are serious questions about how the Netanyahu government did not see this attack coming. It was either a spectacular intelligence failure or a security failure or both, and it strikes at the heart of the Netanyahu government’s promise to keep the country safe. At the same time, the attack is making Israelis rally together. The hundreds of thousands of Israelis who have been protesting Netanyahu’s strengthening hold on the government have said they would come together in this dangerous moment.
A number of countries, including the U.S., have designated Hamas a terrorist organization. It is backed by Iran, which provides money and weapons, and last month high-level Iranian officials apparently met with Hamas leaders in Lebanon. Today Iran praised Hamas for the attack. Iran has opposed the recent talks between Saudi Arabia and Israel about normalizing relations. Since the decline of Iraq as an independent power, Iran has viewed the combination of Israel, its main enemy, with Saudi Arabia, its main rival for power, as the greatest threat to its security in the region.
Iran and Russia are allies whose relationship has strengthened considerably as the Russian war against Ukraine has pushed the two increasingly isolated countries together to resist Western sanctions. Former Russian president and deputy chair of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said the attack was “expected,” and used it to accuse the U.S.
The Middle East, rather than Ukraine, was “what Washington and its allies should be busy with,” he said. “But instead of actively working at Palestinian-Israeli settlement,” he went on, “these morons have interfered with us, and are providing the neo-Nazis with full-scale aid, pitting the two closely related peoples against each other. What can stop America’s manic obsession to incite conflicts all over the planet?”
Today’s assessment of the Russian offensive in Ukraine by the Institute for the Study of War said: “The Kremlin is already [exploiting] and will likely continue to exploit the Hamas attacks in Israel to advance several information operations intended to reduce US and Western support and attention to Ukraine.”
Both Saudi Arabia and Qatar have contextualized the attack by calling out Israel’s treatment of the Palestinian people but also are calling for restraint and for the violence to stop.
India, too, has expressed solidarity with Israel.
In the U.S., the administration suggested that it sees a larger hand behind this attack and is working with partners and allies to contain the violence. In a statement, President Biden said the United States “unequivocally condemns this appalling assault against Israel by Hamas terrorists from Gaza, and I made clear to Prime Minister Netanyahu that we stand ready to offer all appropriate means of support to the Government and people of Israel.” It went on with a warning—“The United States warns against any other party hostile to Israel seeking advantage in this situation”—and a threat: “My Administration’s support for Israel’s security is rock solid and unwavering.”
Biden told reporters that he has been in contact with the King of Jordan, has spoken with members of Congress, and is in close touch with Netanyahu. He says he has directed the national security team to engage with their Israeli counterparts—“military to military, intelligence to intelligence,...diplomat to diplomat—to make sure Israel has what it needs.” He has also directed his team “to remain in constant contact with leaders throughout the region, including Egypt, Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, the UAE, as well as with our European partners and the Palestinian Authority.”
Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke today with the presidents of Israel and the Palestinian Authority, which controls the West Bank, urging Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas to condemn the attack and to work to restore calm. He also spoke with the foreign ministers of Israel, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Türkiye, as well as the European Union’s High Representative for foreign affairs. Blinken urged the EU, Türkiye, and the so-called Quint countries—France, Germany, Italy, the U.K., and the U.S.—to continue to engage on the issue, and he promised to stay in close contact with all the parties he talked to today.
In the United States, Republicans used the moment to attack President Biden. In an echo of a similar lie from Trump, who falsely claimed the Obama administration had paid $150 billion to Iran for a nuclear agreement, they took to social media in a flood to say that the U.S. had funded the attack on Israel because it had recently “paid” $6 billion to Iran.
The statement was wrong across the board: the U.S did not pay Iran anything. It helped to ease restrictions on Iranian money that had been frozen in South Korea, enabling Qatar to take control of the money and use it for humanitarian aid. In any case, the money has not yet been transferred. Still, it was a surprising decision to attack the U.S. government at a time when the country would normally be united behind Israel.
Nonetheless, the attack has made the national implications of Republicans’ own troubles even more clear. In times of crisis, the executive branch briefs the so-called Gang of Eight on classified intelligence matters. The Gang of Eight is made up of the leaders of each party in the House and the Senate, and the leaders of each party in each chamber’s intelligence committee. But without a House Speaker, this leading intelligence group is missing a key member. It is not clear if the acting speaker, Representative Patrick McHenry (R-NC), who was tapped by former speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and not elected, can participate.
The lack of a speaker is a problem. Although House committees can still meet, the House can’t do much. McHenry is responsible mostly for overseeing the election of a new speaker; he does not have the authority to bring bills or even resolutions to the floor.

Fellowship of Reconciliation Condemns Palestine – Israel Conflict
Press Release

The Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR) is horrified at the new war that has just broken out in Israel/Palestine. FOR, a pacifist organization since its conception in 1914 in Europe and 1915 in the United States, condemns the initiation of this latest
stage of violent conflict. In condemning Hamas’s attack launched on Shabbat and Simchat Torah, we are also led to condemn Israel for its decades of occupation, siege, and human rights violations and abuses that have led up to this moment.

Balkan Geopolitics: Between a Bridge and the Battlefield

The peculiar geostrategic position of the Balkan Peninsula gives us an answer to the
question of why it has been throughout history both a bridge and the battlefield of different civilizations and cultures. Thus, the history of the region was to a great extent determined by the location of the Balkans. Situated at the meeting point of Europe, Africa, and Asia both the Balkans experienced alternate imperial drives, competing ideologies together with conflicting social, political, and economic systems

A village struggling for sheer survival that needs help
by Bharat Dogra

Baurapurva village, located in Naraini block of Banda district, is inhabited by the people of Kevat community known for their close association with rivers and inland water sources.
This village was earlier located very close to the Ken river but it was devastated in the floods of 1978 caused by sudden and excess release of dam water. Then it was relocated at the present site. This site is caught between the two states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. This as well as the absence of a proper path have led to the denial of several development benefits which this neglected village certainly needs.

Josh Hawley has made a whole career of controlling other people’s lives

Lucas Kunce for U.S. Senate

Josh Hawley has made a whole career out of trying to control other people’s lives — and in 2024, we’re going to make him pay for it:

JEZEBEL: Let's Look at Senator Josh Hawley's Connections to the Abortion Pill Case. Excerpt: Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk donated to Hawley's campaign in 2018... Hawley is sworn in as senator in early 2019 and votes to confirm Kacsmaryk in June 2019 (the vote was 52 to 46). A few months after the Supreme Court overturned Roe, activists represented by ADF file the abortion pill suit in Kacsmaryk's single-judge district. Hawley's wife is part of the ADF team to argue the case before Kacsmaryk in March 2023. Kacsmaryk then rules in favor of Hawley's wife. And, finally, Hawley signs on to a Supreme Court amicus brief supporting his wife's case...

I’m the 13-year Marine veteran and Democrat running to replace Josh Hawley in the U.S. Senate. Tens of thousands of people like you have already helped us build a record-breaking grassroots movement to take back power from control-obsessed elites like Hawley — and we can’t afford to slow down now.

If we’re going to hold Hawley accountable, protect abortion access in all 50 states, and give everyday Americans the freedom to make decisions about their own bodies, families, and lives… I still need your help.

So, will you chip in $10 or whatever you can afford to my grassroots campaign today? I don’t take a cent from corporate PACs in this race, so you know I’ll always be committed to fighting for real people like you — not shady special interests or mega-donors.

Together, we’re going to take back our power from corrupt politicians like Hawley and finally put real working people in charge of our country.

Thanks for helping us get it done,

Lucas

New Gaza Conflict shows that “Abraham Accords” can’t bring Peace as Long as Israelis keep Palestinians Occupied and Stateless

Ann Arbor (Informed Comment) – The conflict that broke out on October 7, 2023, between Palestinian militants and Israel underlined once again that the status quo, with Israel occupying 5 million stateless Palestinians, is unsustainable. GEORGIA: Brad Raffensperger purged 189,000 voters from the GA voter rolls

Brad Raffensperger purged 2% of all the voters in Georgia from the voter rolls. Now, if someone was accidentally on his list, they’ll get to the polls to find they can’t vote.

To give you context of just how big a deal this is, in 2020, Joe Biden won Georgia by just 11,779. Now there are 189,000 fewer voters registered in Georgia.

Frank, Brad Raffensperger is even moving to purge voters just because they didn’t choose to vote in recent elections, but the reality is, voting is not “use it or lose it” – it’s a right!

Georgia has always had the strongest voter protection program in the country (because we NEED it). Right now, we’re rebuilding our team after the 2022 election, and we need your help. Can we count on you to pitch in $5, $10, or whatever you can afford to fully rebuild our voter protection team?

Every dollar you donate to this email will go directly to funding the strongest voter protection program in the country.

You’ll help Georgia voters fight back against mass voter purges just like this one from Brad Raffensperger, and your donation will directly help us inform voters of when, where, and how to vote.

Thank you for your support,

Trump’s Chaos Agenda

Trump’s Chaos Agenda

Reagan’s negative view of government has morphed into a malevolent anti-democracy fervor

Friends,

I’m feeling a bit better today (thank you for your kind words). It wasn’t paxlovid that did the trick. I credit chicken soup.

Speaking of which, like most of you I’ve been following the harrowing news about what’s occurring in Israel and Gaza — and, of course, Trump’s crazy-ass attempt to blame it on Biden. “The horrible attack on Israel, much like the attack on Ukraine, would never have happened if I were President — zero chance!” he said with his usual modesty, even though Trump is more responsible for the diminished capabilities of American intelligence (connected to Israeli intelligence) than Biden or any other recent president.

Ronald Reagan told Americans that “government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem.”

Reagan is still revered, especially by Republicans, but his negative view of government has morphed into an authoritarian fervor within the Republican Party.

And that fervor has become the basis of a strategy — led by Trump — for seeking to persuade the rest of America that the nation is ungovernable as a democracy and therefore in need of an authoritarian strongman.

This is the underlying agenda of Trump and his enablers as we head into the terrifying election year of 2024.

It’s behind Trump’s increasingly wild ravings. It animates the House nihilists (such as Matt Gaetz, Jim Jordan, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Andy Biggs, and Nancy Mace). It fuels the zealotry of Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy. It’s behind Steve Bannon’s and Tucker Carlson’s incendiary agitprop. (It’s also basic to Putin’s maneuverings.)

The more chaos Trump and his allies create, the more pessimistic Americans feel about the capacities of our democratic institutions to govern the nation — which advances their authoritarian agenda.

So they are increasingly unconstrained. Close the government! Vacate the speakership! Impeach Biden! Investigate the judges and prosecutors in Trump’s civil and criminal trials! Stop funding Ukraine! Don’t trust the intelligence community!

“How do Americans feel about politics?” The New York Times asked a few days ago, answering in the same headline: “Disgust isn’t a strong enough word.”

Trump wants us to be disgusted. He wants us to believe that America is ungovernable as long as power remains diffused. He wants us to think we need an authoritarian strongman — Trump — to concentrate power and take over everything.

In a recent survey by the Pew Research Center, only 16 percent of people said they trusted the government — close to the lowest levels in seven decades of polling. Nearly 30 percent said they disliked both the Democratic and Republican parties, a record high.

If we view the central political struggle of our era as not just between the two major parties, but more fundamentally between democracy and authoritarianism, Trump’s chaos agenda explains why much of the GOP no longer accepts the rule of law, the norms of liberal democracy, the legitimacy of the opposing party, or the premise that governing requires negotiation and compromise.

Trump’s chaos agenda continues to drown out news about how well we’re actually being governed: An economy that continues to generate a large number of new jobs, with real (adjusted for inflation) wages finally trending upward, inflation dropping, and no recession in sight.

Plus: Billions of dollars pumped out to fix and improve the nation’s roads, ports, pipelines, and internet. Hundreds of billions allocated to combat climate change. Medicare on the way to lowering the cost of prescription drugs. Billions in student debt canceled. Monopolies attacked. Workers’ rights to organize, defended.

This asymmetry — a well-governed America barely registering on the public’s mind, while an ungovernable America becomes increasingly palpable — is not just a product of Trump’s GOP and right-wing media. It’s also due to the mainstream media, which attracts viewers and listeners with damning stories of dysfunction and crisis and an inclination to blame both sides.

It is playing directly into Trump’s authoritarian hands. Trump thrives on the perception of disorder and dysfunction.

The worse things seem, the stronger his case for an authoritarian like him to take over. “I’d get it done in one day.” “I am your voice.” “Leave it all to me.”

Reagan was wrong. Government is not the problem. A modern society needs government. The relevant questions are: What kind of government? And to whom is it responsible?

Joe Biden and Democrats in Congress have been doing what they can to fortify American democracy and make it responsible to the people, under the most challenging politics of the post-war era. I have worked for two Democratic presidents (Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton) and advised a third (Barack Obama). In my view, Biden is the most progressive and effective of them all.

That Biden is not getting credit — that the public sees and reads mostly about dysfunction and crises, created largely by Republicans and fomented by Trump — is not just politically disadvantageous for Biden and the Democrats.

It is part of an increasingly effective strategy by Trump and his allies to foment public disgust with our democratic system of government. It is an essential component of Trump’s authoritarian agenda.

If it succeeds, it will not just sink Biden and the Democrats. It will sink American democracy.
