Let's call her TOOTH FAIRY JONI ERNST!
It's not reassuring the DEMENTIA DON is not the only one in need of MENTAL HEALTH CARE! (Maybe it's contagious? Ask RFK JR!)
JAPAN is holding a TRLLION DOLLARS in U.S. TREASURIES...As interest rates increase, TREASURIES become worth less because they have a lower interest rate. In addition, the U.S. DOLLAR, once the World's RESERVE CURRENCY is becoming devalued by the U.S. CREDIT RATING declining. It is unclear if any other nation can fill that role at this time.
JAPAN previously dumped U.S. TREASURIES & the BOND MARKET tanked.
STEEL? There is no credible report that I have seen about the ability of the U.S. to produce the nation's needs. Does anyone have more information?
There's a great deal of information without an indication if the U.S. can meet production requirements:
Weekly Raw Steel Production
In the week ending on May 24, 2025, domestic raw steel production was 1,744,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 77.6 percent. Production was 1,709,000 net tons in the week ending May 24, 2024, while the capability utilization then was 76.9 percent. The current week production represents a 2.0 percent increase from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending May 24, 2025 is up 1.4 percent from the previous week ending May 17, 2025 when production was 1,720,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 76.6 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through May 24, 2025, was 34,530,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 75.2 percent. That is down 0.6 percent from the 34,752,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 76.1 percent.
Broken down by districts, here’s production for the week ending May 24, 2025, in thousands of net tons: North East: 127; Great Lakes: 551; Midwest: 254; Southern: 755 and Western: 57 for a total of 1744.
The raw steel production tonnage provided in this report is estimated. The figures are compiled from weekly production tonnage provided by approximately 50% of the domestic production capacity combined with the most recent monthly production data for the remainder. Therefore, this report should be used primarily to assess production trends. The AISI production report “AIS 7”, published monthly and available by subscription, provides a more detailed summary of steel production based on data supplied by companies representing 75% of U.S. production capacity.
