Rupert Murdoch and Fox Corp. board members sued by investor over "stolen election claims"

A Fox Corp. shareholder sued Rupert Murdoch, Lachlan Murdoch, and several members of the Fox Corp. board of directors on Tuesday afternoon, arguing that they violated their duty to make as much money as humanly possible when they allowed Fox News to incessantly broadcast bullshit election conspiracy theories, night after night. It turns out knowingly promoting obviously false conspiracy theories that provoked an insurrection and triggered multi-billion-dollar defamation lawsuits is kinda bad for business. Also, democracy. Very, very bad for democracy.

Take Action: Kick Fox News off the air for inciting violence against the government!

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Republicans finally get what they deserve with devastating setback

The GOP thought they'd be sending a message and asserting their power — and instead, they created their worst nightmare.

Take Action: Tell Congress to expand food stamps for hungry Americans!

Adidas busted profiting from cruel kangaroo slaughter

Center for a Humane Economy: Every year, shoe giant Adidas funds the slaughter of anywhere from 1.5 million to 5 million kangaroos for their leather — all so Adidas can make big bucks selling soccer cleats. The Center for a Humane Economy is fighting to end this barbaric practice — please consider chipping in to protect these innocent animals?

Clarence Thomas pushed to kill disclosure laws while getting secret billionaire gifts
If you thought Clarence Thomas wanted to be be allowed to take seedy bribes from nefarious billionaires, you are mistaken. Turns out, Clarence Thomas wants EVERYONE to be able to accept seedy bribes from nefarious billionaires.

Take Action: Tell the Biden team to use ALL emergency powers to protect the abortion pill!

Missouri House Republicans vote to defund libraries
In a move straight out of the Jim Crow era, Missouri Republicans have decided that if they can't remove LGBTQ+ books from public libraries, they'll just close the libraries entirely — just like how they used to close the public pools when courts ruled they couldn't ban Black people from swimming in them. Their politics is entirely made up of spite, hatred, and proud ignorance.

Take Action: Tell Congress to put an end to Republicans holding us hostage with the debt ceiling!

NPR quits Twitter, says account's new "government-funded" label false and misleading
After Elon Musk ordered his engineers to falsely assign it the "state-funded media" tag commonly used for state-run media companies in countries deemed hostile to the United States, NPR — which receives approximately 1% of its funding from federal agencies and departments — rightfully decided to pull all of its content from the rapidly spiraling social media site. For his part, the deadly serious and laser-focused Musk has recently removed the "w" in the Twitter sign (Titter, get it? Like boobs. Did you know Elon is 51 years old?), replaced the Twitter logo with a picture of a shiba, changed his account name to "Harry Bolz," and gave Twitter verification to a Nazi account called "N****rstank. Given the rapidly deteriorating situation, NPR will certainly not be the only major company that jumps ship.

House Democrats start to call on Sen. Dianne Feinstein to resign

Two House Democrats have formally called on the 89-year-old senator from California to retire and allow Gov. Gavin Newsom to appoint her successor. Feinstein, a titan of Democratic politics since the 1970s, hasn't cast a vote since mid-February, when she was diagnosed with shingles, and there is growing speculation she may not return to Washington, DC, again. Feinstein's absence from the Judiciary Committee has put an untenable hold on Democrats' ability to nominate and confirm new judges, and yesterday's calls for her to retire prompted Chuck Schumer to announce plans to temporarily replace her on the committee until she returns.

Republican stunt finally BACKFIRES on them

Man with schizophrenia was left naked in jail cell for weeks before death, video shows
Video footage obtained by the family of Joshua McLemore reveals an American horror story in which a man with psychosis was taken from the hospital by Indiana police and thrown in solitary confinement without being booked or medically evaluated. McLemore was essentially tortured to death in his own filth in a windowless and bedless cell having never been arraigned or seen by a judge. Once again, law enforcement has shown an appalling disregard for the well-being of the mentally ill, treating McLemore worse than anyone should ever treat an animal, let alone another human being.

Republican ex-Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen now helping the UAE undermine America
In a disgusting example of how the revolving door of politics funnels powerful politicians into well-paid lobbying jobs, the former Chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee is now the United Arab Emirates' top lobbyist in Washington, earning huge paychecks whitewashing the reputation of a serious human rights abuser, denigrating the UAE's political rivals, and helping to undermine US foreign policy on behalf of an authoritarian petrocracy.

The cynical evil behind Bud Light's new trans ad campaign
While Republicans have been performatively crying, throwing up, and pissing themselves in fury over Bud Light's new ad campaign featuring trans TikToker Dylan Mulvaney, the truth of the matter is that they're idiots playing right into Anheuser-Busch's hands by giving the company free promotion and wokewashing their corporate image. In reality, Anheuser-Busch donated a total of $366,500 to anti-LGBTQ politicians between January 2021 and May 2022, and since then has given $66,190 to the Republican Senate Leadership Committee. It's a sharp reminder that the only thing these kinds of companies ever care about is making money and protecting their ability to make more money, which almost always means giving money to Republicans.

Missouri Republican defends 12-year-olds getting married
In a truly shocking scene from a public government hearing, Missouri state Senator Mike Moon was confronted about passing anti-trans bills to "protect children" from their parents...but then defended a parent's right to marry a 12-year-old child off to a full-grown, adult man as perfectly reasonable. "Do you know any kids who have been married at age 12? I do. And guess what? They're still married,” said Moon, out loud, in public, on the record. It's so clear that the whole anti-"groomer" push from the right wing is pure projection, but this is so on the nose that it boggles the mind and upsets the stomach.

Today’s Action: Tell Congress to do MORE to reduce gun violence!

This past Monday morning, a disgruntled employee walked into Old National Bank in downtown Louisville and murdered five coworkers and injured eight more in Kentucky’s 50th mass shooting since 2014. While all 146 mass shootings this year have hurt our country in an indescribable way, this one has left a permanent mark on atAdvocacy. Our office is based in Louisville; this city is our home. Our community has lost five irreplaceable people to preventable violence that’s become all too common in America, and the grief is insurmountable. There aren’t words to express the continued loss we all experience just by living in America.

It’s long past time that we finally begin the job of curbing the epidemic of unspeakable — and very preventable — gun violence and pass the real, meaningful gun safety reform that is supported by a clear majority of Americans.

It’s unacceptable that after so much loss, our elected officials still haven’t managed to advance any meaningful anti-gun violence legislation through Congress. In the United States it is still legal to own an AR-15, the very killing machine that has been used time and time again to murder and maim innocent Americans en masse. AR-15-style rifles were used in the mass murders at Sandy Hook, Parkland, Aurora, Sutherland Springs, Las Vegas, San Bernardino, the Poway synagogue, the Tree of Life synagogue, the Buffalo supermarket, Uvalde…the list goes on and on — and will continue to be used to massacre innocent civilians unless we finally do something about it.

Call (202.224.3121) or email your representatives and demand Congress immediately take action to ban AR-15s and other assault rifles!

Once the Federal Assault Weapons Ban (AWB) signed into law by President Clinton in 1994 expired in 2004, the number of deaths in mass shootings skyrocketed. Assault rifles are specifically designed to kill on the battlefield; there is no reason they should ever be in civilian hands.

There were 735 mass shootings in the United States last year, up from 693 in 2021. Excluding suicide, there were 20,726 gun deaths in 2021, as well. According to the Washington Post, a child is shot every hour in America. We simply cannot stand idly by and let 2023 continue this horrific trend. The cause of this problem is clear — it’s the guns!

Call (202.224.3121) or email your representatives to demand Congress ban assault weapons immediately!

Ex-youth pastor GOP rep busted with underage intern

atAdvocacy

OD Action is now atAdvocacy!

Tell Congress: No funding increase for the Pentagon!

atAdvocacy is based in Louisville, Kentucky. Most of our team is here. We were all touched in profound ways as we saw yesterday’s shooting unfold out our window, on tv, and online all at once. We have dear friends who lost a father, a brother, a classmate. [tweet]

Our grief runs deep for the loved ones lost. We know this is a time for remembrance.

And as we grieve, there is no part of any of us — NONE — that feels that this is not also the time for politics. It has to be. [tweet]

One man, sick and twisted and tortured, carried out an evil act of mass murder. But it was a system of corruption and cowardice, led by gunmakers, the NRA, and the Republican Party that gave him the tools to turn his feelings into unspeakable carnage.

The man who pulled the trigger is dead. The Republican machine that put the gun in his hand lives on. [tweet]

Politics spawned America’s scourge of gun violence, and politics is the only the thing that can fix it. Don’t ever let anyone tell you it’s too soon to work to prevent the next tragedy. [tweet]

We know that in America, hundreds of families will end up feeling today as we did yesterday, and there will be hundreds more tomorrow. If we have any hope of ending this horrific cycle, we must not hesitate to get political. [tweet]

We will stay political.

We will stay vigilant.

We will fight on. ✊❤️

Radical right-wing Texas GOP rep accused of inappropriate relationship with underage intern

Texas state Rep. and former youth pastor Bryan Slaton is the Bible-thumpiest, white baby-lovingest, hetero-marriage-respectingest man who absolutely despises gay people and smears them as being a threat to children for just existing — so of course he's been busted bringing an underage intern over to his apartment, plying her with alcohol, and asking her to lie about it.

Take Action: Convict Donald Trump!

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump’s own cabinet member turns on him on national TV

Former Attorney General Bill Barr, a crook in his own right, didn't pull any punches during a discussion about his ex-boss' growing legal problems. Bluntly put, he thinks Trump is in serious trouble and that the classified documents investigation in particular could sink him.

Take Action: Pledge to boycott Fox News!

Senate panel will hold a hearing on the Supreme Court's ethical standards
Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin said the hearing will focus on "the need to restore confidence in the Supreme Court's ethical standards," which sounds like an awfully tame way of saying "we must do something because the Supreme Court's legitimacy has been irreparably damaged." Now that we know Clarence Thomas was accepting bribes in the form of fancy trips and private plane travel for decades from a Republican megadonor, nothing short of impeachment and removal will save the court.

Take Action: Pass the Supreme Court Ethics Act!

At least 5 killed in live-streamed bank massacre in Louisville, Kentucky
The shooter, identified as a 25-year-old male, was employed at the bank, police said. The "weapon of choice" was once again an assault-style rifle that shouldn't even be legal in the first place, and the shooter was ultimately shot and killed by law enforcement. As horrific as this tragedy is, don't expect it to sway Republicans in the least. They cannot be convinced to care about the ceaseless bloodshed; for real change to occur, they MUST be voted out at the ballot box.

Nashville council votes to reinstate ousted Tennessee lawmaker

Thanks to a unanimous vote, Black state lawmaker Justin Jones will return to the Tennessee Legislature after he was unceremoniously removed last week by a gaggle of racist Republicans for daring to protest unchecked gun violence on the House floor. The Nashville Metropolitan Council suspended its rules to allow an immediate vote instead of holding a month long nomination period, swiftly sending Jones back to the Legislature to do the people's business.

Take Action: Tell Congress to vote NO on the bill to curb our online freedoms!

Police misled public; Nashville shooter did not have a "manifesto"
Despite reports to the contrary, it turns out that killer did not write about specific political, religious, or social issues. What police were quick to label a "manifesto" turned out to be "a series of rambling writings indicating no clear motive." This is a crucial clarification because Republicans have been gleefully promoting a false and deeply dangerous narrative that the shooter — who was transgender — carried out the attack specifically because of their gender identity and specifically targeted Christians. The GOP is desperate to demonize the transgender community as a threat to all of us, when in reality it's bigoted Republicans and their destructive, cruel policies who are a danger to every American.

Republican stunt finally BACKFIRES on them

No Lie with Brian Tyler Cohen: It's about time.

Employers spend more than $400 million per year on "union-avoidance" consultants to bolster their union-busting efforts
High-profile union organizing campaigns and predictable corporate attacks on said campaigns at companies such as Amazon, Starbucks, and Google have shined a spotlight on workers seeking better pay and working conditions. Tellingly, brazen attempts to derail unionization efforts are on the rise, costing corporations more than $400 million a year. If companies are spending hundreds of millions of dollars and still losing, imagine what the American working class is truly capable of if they continue banding together.

Biden judicial push hits roadblocks with GOP veto-power and Democratic absences
The liberal judge-confirmation train, which has been quietly but rapidly chugging along up to this point, has hit two major roadblocks. Firstly, 89-year-old Senator Dianne Feinstein is out of the Senate with a case of shingles, leaving the Judiciary Committee locked at a 10-10 partisan split. The bigger issue is that Judiciary Chairman Dick Durbin refuses to end the ridiculous "blue slip" tradition that allows senators to veto nominees from their home states, which has allowed GOP Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith to block the nomination of Scott Colom. Republicans scrapped the "blue slip" tradition for circuit court judges under Trump, and there is literally zero reason for Democrats to continue allowing Republicans to obstruct us.

Gun deaths among American children and teens rose 50% in two years
According to a new analysis from Pew Research, gun deaths among American children and teens skyrocketed between 2019 and 2021 from 1,732 to 2,590 — a direct result of the Republican Party's fanatical refusal to pass even the tamest of gun-safety legislation.
