MassDOT Alerts Customers of Smishing Scam

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation was alerted that a text message-based scam, also known as smishing, is fraudulently claiming to represent tolling agencies from across the country. The scammers are claiming to represent the tolling agency and requesting payment for unpaid tolls.

Please Note: The targeted phone numbers seem to be chosen at random and are not uniquely associated with an account or usage of toll roads.

Customers who receive an unsolicited text, email, or similar message suggesting it is from EZDriveMA or another toll agency should not click on the link.

EZDriveMA customers can verify a valid text notification in several ways:

•    EZDriveMA will never request payment by text

•    All links associated with EZDriveMA will include www.EZDriveMA.com

This smishing scam is part of a series of smishing scams that the FBI is aware of:

The FBI recommends individuals that receive the fraudulent messages do the following:

1. File a complaint with the IC3, https://www.ic3.gov/, be sure to include:

•    The phone number from where the text originated.

•    The website listed within the text

2. Check your account using the toll service's legitimate website.

3. Contact the toll service's customer service phone number.

4. Delete any smishing texts received.

5. If you clicked any link or provided your information, take efforts to secure your personal information and financial accounts. Dispute any unfamiliar charges.

How Broken is the Supreme Court? STEVEN BESCHLOSS APR 27 I had the opportunity yesterday to talk to Tristan Snell, a former Assistant Attorney General for New York State and author of the excellent Taking Down Trump about his successful prosecution of Donald Trump and Trump University. He was as disturbed as I was about the Trump-friendly questioning by the Supreme Court’s conservative majority during oral arguments Thursday over the issue of absolute presidential immunity. “Yesterday really knocked me sideways,” he said. I’ve got to be honest, I think I finally might have had the blinkers removed from my eyes on the Supreme Court. I’m somebody who grew up very much respecting the court system. I’ve been a lawyer for 20 years. When I grew up, the Supreme Court meant something and it was an establishment that had a lot of credibility. And even when you didn’t agree with them, there was a gravitas there…The residual respect that some of us have for the Supreme Court needs to be tossed away completely. I keep thinking we’ve seen the bottom of what they’re doing and then they go lower. While Snell anticipated a clear 7-2 or 6-3 majority saying that Trump is not immune, now he’s not so sure. “I never thought this would go the wrong way,” he said. “I thought the problem was the delay.” And he now worries that a decision coming at the end of the court’s term in late June could cause the Jack Smith prosecution of Trump’s role on January 6 to “go away”—and maybe even undermine the state-level prosecutions. This has strengthened his recognition that, ultimately, it’s up to voters to hold Trump accountable at the ballot box. As for the court? Snell was sickened (as was I) by Justice Gorsuch insisting their task is to write “a rule for the ages.” Federalist Society conservatives who used to rail against legislating from the bench are now exploiting their power to do exactly that. We already saw that when they rejected settled law (and the will of the public) by stripping away women’s reproductive rights and overturning Roe v. Wade. What do you think? How broken is the Supreme Court? How did their questioning on Thursday or their overturning of Roe or other actions—including the unethical conduct of Clarence Thomas and his refusal to recuse himself in cases involving January 6—affect your thinking about the court? And do you think short-term change is possible, be it from new appointments in a second Biden term or an expanded number of justices? The F-35 is the poster child for Pentagon waste and corruption [action needed]

                HOW MANY AMERICANS COULD WE CARE FOR WITH THE LOCKHEED                             MARTIN F-35 FOLLIES?

The last time we alerted you about the F-35, its price tag was $1.7 trillion. Now, the cost of this failed fighter jet program is projected at over TWO TRILLION.

Here’s the deal — if you’re paying that much money, don’t you want to at least make sure that it can get in the air? Soar through the clouds and see the bright blue sky? Because right now, it consistently can’t.

To date, just 30% of F-35s perform as intended. Failure after failure has plagued the program: flawed ejection seats, delays in production, frequent groundings — not to mention that time the plane shot itself.

The kicker? Despite all of these flashing red light warnings, the Pentagon just signed off on a full-rate production of the F-35 — but not before it also moved to classify its own report on the plane’s combat effectiveness.

The Pentagon cannot be allowed to sweep the F-35's massive problems under the rug any longer. Congress must open an immediate investigation into how the Pentagon was able to sign off on full-rate production of an aircraft this deeply flawed.

The only thing the F-35 can reliably do is be a poster child for Pentagon corruption, waste, and mismanagement. Last year, during the debate on the National Defense Authorization Act, key committees across the House and Senate voted to pour BILLIONS more into the F-35 program — buying planes and parts well above what the Pentagon even asked for.

That includes Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL), the top Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, who pushed for hundreds of MILLIONS more for a new F-35 engine that even the Air Force didn’t want. That’s the same Rep. Rogers who has personally raked in millions of dollars in campaign donations from weapons contractors and their lobbyists over the years, and over $694,633 in the 2023 - 2024 election cycle alone. That included thousands from — you guessed it — Lockheed Martin, the maker of the F-35.

The bottom line? This calls for an aggressive congressional investigation into the Pentagon's unfathomable decision to greenlight the F-35 failures. The unredacted reports and data must be made public so there can be a full accounting of any mismanagement.
