Graham Platner has officially dropped out of the U.S. Senate race in Maine. For the sake of the progressive movement that was behind him and the millions of people across America who put their trust in that movement, that was the only acceptable thing to do.

Now, we have to focus on what comes next. Defeating Susan Collins in November is non-negotiable — and I’m all in.

I’m proud that in the Maine Senate, we made this state a better, fairer, and more affordable place for families to live and work. We protected union jobs, passed universal school meals, expanded rural health care access, and put in place some of the country’s strongest reproductive freedom rights.

That fight must now go to the U.S. Senate.

For nearly three decades, Susan Collins has been one of the most powerful people in the country, and she has used that power to betray working people — over and over and over again.

She was the deciding vote on Trump’s tax cuts for billionaires back in 2017. Less than a year later, she was a pivotal vote in Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court. She’s voted against organized labor, against reproductive freedom, against campaign finance reform, against environmental safeguards, and against affordable healthcare.

And of course, she votes with Donald Trump’s agenda 95% of the time.

Louisiana Republican John Kennedy, who once famously turned heads — and stomachs — in a 2023 Senate committee hearing on book banning, wherein he awkwardly read literary passages about dildos and strap-ons out loud to his baffled colleagues, apparently decided it was time to remind Americans of his enduring obsession with all things phallic during an absolutely wild Fox News interview yesterday.

Speaking with Kellyanne Conway, Kennedy went on a ludicrous rant about progressive Democrats wanting to "kill all the millionaires" before weirdly declaring that the list of countries that have "tried socialism and rejected it" was "as long as King Kong’s genitalia."

We know "Freud would have a field day" is an overused phrase, but, honestly, in this case he really would.

Gee, what on earth would compel Donald Trump to suddenly come to the defense of Graham Platner, a man he has routinely attacked as a "pig," "thug," and "major sleaze bag?" Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, the serial philander — who has been credibly accused of sexual assault by more than 20 women himself — chimed in on Platner's imperiled Senate campaign: "It’s really a question of whether or not you believe the woman. A lot of people say big falsehoods." Uh huh. Like, say, at least 20 or so people, maybe?

A not-very-friendly reminder:

Donald Trump is refusing to sign legislation to build more housing and make housing more affordable.

Democrats and Republicans overwhelmingly passed a housing affordability bill in both the House and the Senate (when was the last time you heard that?).

Why?

He said he won’t sign unless Congress passes the SAVE Act first — the restrictive voter ID law that would make it harder for millions of citizens to vote.

Why?

Because he knows his agenda is unpopular and Republicans can’t win based on what he’s doing, so he wants to rig the election by picking his own voters.

That’s what this is all about.

Again, not an ordinary voter ID bill. Trump and the Republicans in Congress will defend it by saying things like, "You should have to show ID to vote just like you do to buy a beer."

Don’t let them fool you.

This is a way to keep American citizens from voting. I'll give you an example:

If this bill passes, then in 45 of 50 states, your driver's license won’t count as valid ID.

Let’s say you’re a married woman who lives in Massachusetts. And let’s say that when you got married, you took your husband’s name.

Well, when you go to the polls to vote, you can't register by showing them your updated driver’s license. Why? Because Massachusetts is one of the 45 states where a driver’s license doesn’t prove citizenship.

So you bring along your birth certificate? Now can you vote?

Nope. Your birth certificate is still under your maiden name.

Yes, you can use a passport, if you have one. But remember that fewer than half of all Americans have a passport and it costs $165 to get one — and takes a month or two, if everything is working on time.

No passport and no birth certificate that matches your driver’s license? Well, Trump and the Republicans say you’re out of luck.

Here’s another deeply disturbing thing about this bill: it would require states to hand over sensitive information about voters to Trump’s Department of Homeland Security, so that some shadowy guys can do whatever they want with it.

Maybe they take you off the voter rolls. Maybe they use that information for something else. No one knows what will happen.

Guess who's going to get swept off the voter rolls? People that the Republicans think are likely to vote Democratic.

So, sweep off Black people, sweep off Brown people, sweep off women, sweep off students, sweep off people in precincts who voted Democratic last time, sweep off people that you think might vote Democratic in the upcoming election.

This Trump bill is Jim Crow 2.0.

And noncitizen voting is extremely rare. Republicans know that.

They’ve seen the data: Voter roll audits in Georgia prior to the 2024 election found only 20 registered noncitizens out of 8.2 million registered voters, or 0.00024%.

A 2024 Michigan audit found only 16 noncitizen votes out of 5.7 million votes, or 0.00028%.

So, yep: The President of the United States is blocking critical housing legislation that would make rent more affordable and help people actually be able to buy a home in order to rig the rules and pick their own voters.

I’m going to keep up the fight to get this plan passed — and while Trump and Republicans try to spread conspiracies and lie about the SAVE Act, it’s important that we send a clear message that the American people say NO to passing the SAVE Act.

Republicans are pulling every lever they can to wage an assault on our democracy and cling onto their power. We can’t — and won’t let them. We need to demonstrate that the American people are outright rejecting the SAVE Act. Please add your name to say you do not support this legislation.
