In case you haven’t heard, the twice-impeached convicted felon Donald Trump weighed in on Maryland’s U.S. Senate race, proudly endorsing his fellow Republican candidate Larry Hogan. Trump just proved three things: 1) If he got elected, Republican nominee Hogan would be one more brick-in-the-wall for Trump and the MAGA forces that want to control the Senate. 2) Donald Trump knows electing Larry Hogan and flipping the Senate for the party of J.D. Vance, Marco Rubio and Mitch McConnell will mean MAGA Republicans could get 2 or 3 more Supreme Court appointments and redefine America forever. 3) With Trump fully behind him, Hogan is sure to see a big boost in MAGA fundraising and plenty more money from GOP super PACs, but this is also an opportunity for us: Knowing the stakes, we need to seize this moment, and make the case to voters that everything is on the line. It’s one of the less discussed provisions in Chapter 17, about the federalization of state and local law enforcement if they don’t prosecute “the right people.” And that includes, potentially, prosecuting the prosecutors themselves for perceived failures.
