URGENT ACTION NEEDED: Trump’s EPA APPROVED a catastrophic plan to DUMP SODIUM HYDROXIDE into our oceans! But you can still help STOP it! >> Take immediate action! Sodium hydroxide is a caustic chemical used as an ingredient in drain cleaners. It causes chemical burns on contact with skin and can severely harm the health and development of marine animals, including the fish and lobsters at the heart of New England’s coastal economy. Donald Trump’s EPA just permitted a group of researchers at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) to dump 16,500 gallons of sodium hydroxide into the Gulf of Maine, a region frequented by at least 8 different endangered species – including leatherback sea turtles! We’re rallying thousands of members just like you to FLOOD WHOI with messages urging them to abandon this risky experiment. If enough concerned environmentalists take action, we just might be able to push WHOI to change its mind. But we need you to act right now before this dangerous experiment moves forward! |

Geoengineering is a process to manipulate Earth’s atmosphere and oceans in an attempt to mitigate the effects of climate change. But unlike other climate solutions such as wind or solar energy, geoengineering projects are unproven, unpredictable, and extremely dangerous. While the goal of mitigating the impacts of climate change may be well-intentioned, geoengineering does so by putting earth’s natural systems at risk – and that’s exactly the case with WHOI’s project. WHOI is trying to “enhance ocean alkalinity” and boost the ocean’s ability to absorb carbon from the atmosphere. But this approach is energy-intensive and incredibly dangerous for the marine environment. Our limited resources would be better spent supporting proven climate solutions like renewable energy, not dumping caustic chemicals into marine habitats that locals depend on for food and jobs. Donald Trump approved this project anyway – and now it’s up to us to stop WHOI from running this dangerous experiment. Will you help protect coastal communities and endangered marine species? Send your message now! |
