Trump-lackey McCarthy’s warning: “We’re going to get the majority back”

While boasting about Donald Trump's continued political power, Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy went as far as to promise “we're going to get the majority back. We're five seats away. I would bet my house.”

We know why McCarthy and Republicans are already bragging about taking back Washington.

As The Hill reports, “Republicans exceeded expectations in the last election cycle when they were projected to lose 15 members, flipping several seats in the House and winning seats eyed by Democrats in the Senate.”

And we now have the narrowest House majority in modern history.

But it seems Republicans are forgetting something. We were able to protect that majority even as the GOP unleashed a war on mail-in voting during a global pandemic. Not only that, we were able to end Trump's presidency AND take back the Senate by winning two races in Georgia -- what Republicans claimed was a red state.

We were able to do that because people like you stepped up when our country needed it most. We were victorious because, despite what the GOP thinks, grassroots power can challenge their dark money, and win.

That's why we choose to bet on the American people. While Republicans are already using their inflammatory rhetoric to outraise us, we know the right people will step up again and help us fight back against the wave of right-wing extremism threatening our country.

We could either allow Trump-aligned Republicans to take back the House next year and stymie Biden's agenda, or we can act now to safeguard our democracy and protect our majority. We choose to act -- and we hope you will too.

Please, will you help us show McCarthy and all of Trump's puppets that their victories aren't as secure as they think and support progressive women who are defending vulnerable House seats by rushing us $10, $25, $50, or anything you can today?

Thank you for forming part of the solution to the rise of right-wing extremism.

Together, we'll form a government that works in the interests of ALL Americans and see a record-number of progressive women leading the fight for our families, our children, and our communities in legislatures nationwide.

Let's keep betting on progress,

The FBI is investigating Donald Trump’s "soldiers of the right wing”

According to The Washington Post, The Proud Boys, a white supremacist militia group, have been a major focus of the FBI investigation into the January 6 Capitol riot so far, “in part because of their statements in the run-up to the attack.”

Proud Boys members said that Americans must “desensitize” themselves to violence and that the “soldiers of the right wing” are at war.

They suggested that the group “kick off the Biden presidency with fireworks,” infiltrate his inauguration, and “turn it into a circus, a sign of resistance, a sign of revolution.”

That was right before telling white supremacists to “turn out in record numbers” and “invade” Washington on January 6.

Right after Trump told The Proud Boys to “stand back and stand by,” Elizabeth Warren said that “this is not the America we want to be.”

But while Canada declared the Proud Boys a terrorist organization just one month after the Capitol attack -- we have been slow to act. In fact, Republicans let the Proud Boys' enabler-in-chief walk free from a second impeachment.

We agree with Warren. Our country has to be better than this. Democrats have filed a lawsuit against the Proud Boys, but this hate group needs to be called what it is: a threat to our nation. Too many have stayed silent for too long -- and we need to know if you will add your voice to ours today.

Thank you so much for refusing to stay silent, and for everything you do to protect our democracy and our country's future.

The GOP’s anti-science agenda is costing lives

Millions of Texans have spent days without power in freezing temperatures. But, Texas GOP Governor Greg Abott had nothing better to do than jump on Fox News to blame renewable energy sources and claim that “the Green New Deal would be a deadly deal for the United States of America.”

But it's clear Greg Abbott, an avid climate change-denier, doesn't know what he's talking about.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fired back, saying, “The infrastructure failures in Texas are quite literally what happens when you *don't* pursue a Green New Deal.”

With a Democratic House, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the White House, and Kamala Harris as the tie breaking vote in the Senate, we can FINALLY pass the Green New Deal before it's too late to protect our planet from the worst impacts of climate change. We must act immediately, otherwise the effects of the warming planet will make life as we know it impossible for our children and grandchildren.

But Mitch McConnell calls the Green New Deal “nonsense,” and even with Democrats in control of the Senate, McConnell can filibuster the Green New Deal and prevent it from passing.

Kamala Harris has previously said she is “prepared to get rid of the filibuster to pass a Green New Deal.” It's past time we act on that promise.

We must act now. The climate crisis is already here. If we fail to take bold action on climate change, if we continue to appease climate change skeptics like Abbott to keep Republicans happy, then we won't have a country left to govern. So please, tell us where you stand now:

Should Dems end the filibuster to pass the Green New Deal?

We cannot do this work without you. Thank you so much for sharing your insights -- sharing your voice as an engaged American -- with us today.

The woman already fighting to unseat Lauren Boebert

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert -- who voted to overturn Biden's victory and tweeted about Nancy Pelosi's location during the insurrection on January 6 -- already has a 2022 opponent.

Kerry Donovan, a Colorado rancher, educator, and state senator promises to give Boebert a run for her (dark) money.

Donovan is already showing how she'd be a breath of fresh air compared to Boebert's QAnon agenda -- promising that she “cares more about getting results than getting headlines.” Where Boebert wanted to bring guns to the House floor, Donovan has proclaimed that “real toughness isn't something you wear on your hip. It's what you get done for people.”

We hope that Lauren Boebert will have only two years to wreak havoc on our legislature, but because of her sudden high profile, we know Republican money has already started pouring into this race.

Thank you so much for standing with us today.

DC attorney general ready to press charges against Giuliani

DC Attorney General Karl Racine has said that prosecutors will “investigate not only the mobsters but also those who invited the violence” in the Capitol this week -- and Rudy Giuliani is first on the list.

Leading up to the attacks on the Capitol, Giuliani was calling for a “trial by combat” to resolve Trump and the GOP’s baseless disputes of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ legitimate election victory.

Giuliani is just one of countless Republicans who modeled Trump’s incendiary rhetoric and encouraged far-right fanatics to invade Congress. We believe allowing him to continue his political career without repercussions sets a dangerous precedent for our democracy.

Rachel Maddow: “They rolled out a guillotine amid an armed protest”

“They rolled out a guillotine amid an armed protest at the state capitol in Arizona, in Phoenix. In Kansas, they stormed the rotunda too, at their state capitol, and said they’d be back and armed.”

“The Washington governor’s residence had its gates broken down and the grounds stormed by armed men. State police were on the scene there.”

“They chose not to arrest any of those people, even after they broke down the gates, because they didn’t want to upset anybody.”

Rachel Maddow’s words reflect what we all know: the violence our country saw this week was unprecedented. From the nation’s capital to cities across the country, pro-Trump mobs attempted to destroy the very fabric of our democracy.

We want to make it clear that even if the state won’t hold these insurgents accountable for their crimes, the American people will.

Trump’s biggest fear is just around the corner

“As soon as he becomes a private citizen, Trump will be stripped of the legal armor that has protected him from pending cases both civil and criminal.”

If reading that NBC News headline brought you some relief and maybe a little joy, then we’re sure you’re ready to see Donald Trump finally be prosecuted for the countless crimes he’s committed before and during his time in office.

Trump’s list of crimes is ongoing -- including campaign finance violations, tax fraud, real estate investment fraud, and a number of sexual assault accusations that Trump has avoided by using the Justice Department as his own personal legal team.

But Trump might just get to retire to the golf courses scot-free. Joe Biden has said he’d rather not waste energy prosecuting Trump for his crimes (probably to appease the over 70 million Americans who still voted for the failed president), and many Americans would prefer to just let it go so long as Trump isn’t in the news. Today, we need to know what supporters like you are thinking:

TIME: “Call out Karen, But Don’t Forget About Kevin.”

White men aren’t being held accountable for Trumpism. As Saadia McConville writes for TIME Magazine:

“If we truly want a world that is anti-racist and free from patriarchal oppression we should be clear about the main problem: white men. To let them off hook, while doubling down on critiques of people of color and women, only serves to uphold white supremacy and patriarchal thinking… This moment we find ourselves in, where too much of the population co-signed on the racism and misogyny of an authoritarian, demands we treat the problem and not the symptom.”

We MUST treat the problem -- and that’s not blaming the 55% of white women who voted for Trump. We need to ensure that the man who has called Kamala Harris a “monster” does not rally his misogynistic base to turn out in droves on January 5.

Georgia turned blue on November 3. We can win back the Senate and stomp out the GOP’s misogyny -- but we’re going to need all hands on deck.

As McConville also writes: “What would truly make this country great is if more people began to vote in the best interests of all, instead of only on the issues that affect them personally.” We’re going to add to the incredible work that activists like Stacey Abrams have done to convince Georgians what’s at stake this election. We’re going to do all we can to guarantee massive Democratic turnout, but right now, we are $1,478 short on the funds we need to do so.

Over half a billion dollars will likely be spent on these runoffs, and the GOP will outpace us and blast the airwaves with their racist and misogynistic platform if we don’t hit the ground running. We need to start fighting back NOW. We can’t let our leadership fall any further -- the most basic civil rights for women and marginalized communities are at stake. We need to ask: Can you chip in $10, $25, $50, or anything you’re able to now to help create a better future for all?

Your support couldn’t come at a more crucial time.

Thank you for standing up for ALL Americans.

Stacey Abrams prepares for the GA Senate runoffs: Let’s get it done

Stacey Abrams has some reassuring words for us as we wait to see who will win the Senate races in Georgia and control the Senate: “We have seen what is possible when we work hard and when we work together. We know we can win Georgia. Now let’s get it done, again.”

We know we’re in good hands. After massive voter suppression in Georgia during the 2018 elections, Stacey Abrams stepped to the political forefront to protect every vote across the state with her project Fair Fight. And when Trump tried to “crown himself the winner,” Stacey Abrams and her team continued to fight to ensure every vote would be counted.

After turning Georgia blue in the presidential race, Abrams is preparing for the next fight -- winning control of the Senate. We’re proudly supporting the work Fair Fight and Stacey Abrams are doing to protect our democracy. But today, we need to know where you stand:

Who made mask-wearing a political statement? Oh.

As coronavirus cases surge throughout the country, public health experts are calling on Joe Biden to prioritize his campaign promise of a national mask mandate.

After months of Donald Trump’s virtually nonexistent coronavirus response, Dr. Fauci has warned that “we are going in the wrong direction” and that if the White House fails to put forward a national mask mandate, then governors and mayors should do it locally.

According to CNBC, universal mask usage could prevent up to 58% of COVID-19 related deaths in the United States -- and Dr. Fauci has pleaded with Americans to pay attention to those numbers: “If you don't want to shut down, at least do the fundamental basic things... the flagship of which is wearing a mask.”

But Donald Trump spent the last months of this election cycle making mask-wearing a political statement, and now an overwhelming number of Americans still refuse to wear masks, even in areas where coronavirus hospitalizations are surging. As we enter what some are calling a “dark winter,” we need to know what Americans are thinking about Biden’s proposed plan to curb coronavirus infections. Please, tell us now:

Do you support a national mask mandate?

Thank you so much for taking our poll today.

Donald Trump’s presidency has left a lasting hole in our country’s history. For months, his administration told Americans not to worry about the virus, while continuously claiming that the virus would go away on its own. Now, hundreds of thousands of Americans have lost their lives in the pandemic.

We need a path forward, and with a new Democratic majority in Washington, we know that we are headed in the right direction. Whether by pushing a national mask mandate, universal testing, or economic relief for working families, it is up to us to keep that momentum going. The fight for change didn’t end with Trump’s presidency, and right now we’re focusing our efforts into supporting progressive women leaders across the country who are fighting to change the way our government is run.

We’ve been working around the clock to rally support for our mission, but unfortunately, we’re not where we need to be to expand our efforts and every day that we don’t meet our goals is a day we fail to move our country forward.

The truth is that our organization entirely relies on people like you who believe that the only way we can properly restore our democratic values is by including women, half our country’s population, in the decision making. There’s still a long road ahead of us, which is why we’re grateful for your support now.
