… Judge William Alsup ordered the Trump admin to immediately rehire tens of thousands of federal employees from the Defense, Treasury, Energy, Interior, Agriculture and Veterans Affairs departments who were terminated by Elon Musk’s DOGE cuts: “You will not bring the people in here to be cross-examined. You’re afraid to do so because you know cross examination would reveal the truth.”
… The Judge continued with his scathing ruling: “I tend to doubt that you’re telling me the truth. I’m tired of seeing you stonewall on trying to get at the truth. It is sad, sad day when our government would fire some good employees and say it was based on performance when they know good and well that’s a lie.”
… The Senate is expected to vote on the House CR tomorrow, with Senate Democrats and Chuck Schumer holding meetings for the past two days on the best strategy to take. Most Democrats are dug in to vote against it because it contains some poison pills, while some fear they will be blamed if there is a government shutdown on Saturday.
… It is likely that at least 7 Democrats, including Schumer, are going to vote for the CR to fund the government until September. Schumer initially tried to make a gimmicky counter-offer to Sen. Majority Leader John Thune that he would vote for cloture in exchange for a 30 day delay on the CR to “negotiate.” Thune quickly rejected it.
… This was an obvious ploy that I immediately denounced on social media yesterday because this was being floated by Schumer as fake resistance to try and placate what he knew was going to be an angry base. I posted that we just want honesty, not games. Let the Senators who were going to vote for it just go ahead and do it and let them deal with the fallout of that vote - but don’t try and fool us.
… AOC later agreed with me: “I hope Senate Democrats understand there is nothing clever about setting up a fake failed 30 day CR first just to turn around and vote for cloture on the GOP spending bill. Those games won’t fool anyone. It won’t trick voters, it won’t trick House members. People will not forget it.”
… Sen. John Fetterman was the first Democrat to announce he is voting for the CR, and said what Schumer proposed wasn’t serious: “Shut the government down, plunge the country into chaos, risk a recession or exchange cloture for a 30 day CR that 100% fails? The House GOP CR will then pass the Senate because it only needs 51 votes. Total theater is neither honest with constituents nor a winning argument.”
… Sen. Tommy Tuberville: "John Fetterman has come a long way. He is the only Democrat leader out there that's speaking common sense."
… Former Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger: “For the Democrats saying, ‘we can’t let the govt shut down’ - you’ve already lost. It’s not on you. Republicans control everything, they didn’t come to you for anything except your vote. Where else can you force changes? You can’t, so now you’re a willing participant in the Republican majority.”
… Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) to Punchbowl on CR: “I can't imagine a scenario how I could support something that's a billion dollar cut to veterans, $300 million cuts to FEMA, water projects. If Republicans needed my vote on this, then they should have talked to me before they just cut all of that.”
… A New Quinnipiac poll asked who voters would blame most if there was a shutdown: Republicans: 31%. Democrats: 32%. Trump: 22%. No opinion: 15%. So a combined 53% would blame Trump and Republicans, while only 32% will blame Democrats, but that does not seem persuasive to some Senate Dems who are afraid to vote against it.
… Robert Morris, the Dallas-area Gateway megachurch pastor who was Trump’s spiritual advisor, was indicted in Oklahoma for 5 counts of lewd and indecent acts with a child. In 2020, Morris hosted Trump for a “Roundtable on Transition to Greatness” that was also attended by several other Republican officials including then-AG Bill Barr.
… At the conference, Trump said this about Morris: “I want to thank Pastor Robert Morris. He’s great people with a great reputation.” Morris was also involved in mobilizing grass roots evangelicals for Trump in 2024.
… Trump woke up this morning enraged by the EU’s reciprocal tariffs, and posted new ones on Truth Social: “The EU, one of the most hostile and abusive taxing and tariffing authorities in the World, which was formed for the sole purpose of taking advantage of the US, has just put a nasty 50% Tariff on Whisky. If this Tariff is not removed immediately, the U.S. will shortly place a 200% Tariff on all WINES, CHAMPAGNES, & ALCOHOLIC PRODUCTS COMING OUT OF FRANCE AND OTHER E.U. REPRESENTED COUNTRIES. This will be great for the Wine and Champagne businesses in the U.S.”
… Trump owns a winery in the US, so this would directly benefit his company.

… Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Trump's new threat of 200% tariffs on alcoholic beverages from Europe is no big deal: "One or two items with one trading bloc - I'm not sure why that's a big deal for the markets."
… Rep. Morgan McGarvey (D-KY): "I just heard them use fancy words to say, 'Oh, people are uncertain right now.' No, we are certain. These tariffs are disastrous for the bourbon industry. This is jobs for my state."
… When asked how he would feel if his policies ended up causing a recession, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick responded: "These policies are the most important thing America has ever had. It's worth it."
… Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) told NBC that Trump’s “dramatic tariffs” could devastate the US economy and his state: "There are stories coming out talking about cars costing $10,000 more. And, of course, we’re worried about bourbon. We want to sell our bourbon. The Canadians are going to block our bourbon. Now that you add lumber costs to that and steel with tariffs, nobody at home is coming up to me and saying please put tariffs on.”
… Tuberville was asked if he was worried that Trump’s tariffs could cause a recession: "No pain, no gain. That's what we used to tell our football players. There's gonna be some pain with tariffs. Democrats need to just get out of the way and shut up."
… Tim Walz said Trump is raging about a trade deal that he negotiated: “If trade is so bad with Canada - he was the guy who signed the deal. I think this is how he ran his businesses - he stiffed contractors, he stiffed workers. He doesn't pay his bills. He declares bankruptcy. The one thing is his claim that he's the business president. He is the worst possible business executive that I have ever witnessed.”
… Scott Bessent was asked on CNBC if he’s starting to get concerned about the stock market tanking: “We're focused on the real economy. I'm not concerned about a little bit of volatility over three weeks. I can't tell you the market is gonna go up today, tomorrow, or next week.”
… The Dow was down another 537 points today.
… A new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows that 57% of Americans think Trump’s handling of the economy has been “too erratic.” 70% said they think Trump’s tariffs will cause prices to rise, while only 31% believe that American workers will benefit from them.
… New CNN poll: How Have Trump’s Policies Affected US Economic Conditions? Worsened conditions - 51%. Improved conditions - 28%. Had no effect - 21%
… NYT reported that after Elon Musk’s DOGE website was busted repeatedly for posting false info on the amount of cuts and various other things, he has now made changes to the site to make it more difficult to fact-check: “Previously when it posted new claims, DOGE had included identifying details about the cuts it took credit for. That allowed the public to fact-check its work by comparing its figures with federal spending databases and talking to the groups whose funding had been cut. This time, it did not include those details. A WH official said that was done for ‘security purposes’.”
… It now nearly impossible to fact-check many of his claims on the website, after he promised that DOGE was going to be “maximally transparent.”
… NBC reported that a family with a 10-year-old girl who recently underwent brain cancer surgery was detained and deported on their way to a doctor’s appointment in Houston, TX. The girl and her siblings are US citizens, but their parents are not. The mother told NBC that she tried to explain the medical situation to officers but “they weren’t interested in hearing that.”
… After doctors removed the brain tumor, the mother says they “practically gave me no hope of life for her, but thank God she’s a miracle.” The girl still has swelling on the brain from the surgery when they were arrested and deported: “It’s a very difficult thing. I don’t wish anyone to go through this situation.”
… Rochelle Garza, president of the Texas Civil Rights Project: “What is happening to this family is an absolute tragedy and it is something that is not isolated to just them. This is part of a pattern in practice that we’ve seen in the Trump administration.”
… Tesla’s largest market outside the US is China, and their sales have been getting crushed by domestic competitors - but unlike boycotts in Europe and the US it has more to do with his cars than his politics. NYT reports that Tesla dominated sales of EVs in China for years, but “now that market is a bloodbath of competition from Chinese rivals. Chinese drivers that once flocked to Tesla are turning more and more to local brands that offer more efficient cars with better technology, sometimes at half the price.”

… Tesla’s biggest competitor in China is BYD. So far this year, BYD’s sales are up 75% over this time last year, while’s Tesla’s are down 14%. Buyers in China said that BYD makes basically the same car at half the price. Chen Jiaming, who is in sales for Volkswagen in China: “I think Tesla’s competitiveness in China will only last for the next 2-3 years at most.”
… Xia Lifang, who works for Chinese EV company Arcfox, said that younger people especially in China are not interested in Tesla: “Our car looks better than Tesla, and you can buy two of our cars for the price of one Tesla.”
… JP Morgan projects that Tesla’s stock price will be cut in half: “We struggle to think of anything analogous in the history of the automotive industry, in which a brand has lost so much value so quickly.”
… Tesla stock was down another 3% today.
… HuffPost reported that Trump’s attempt to promote Tesla sales at the White House to help out Musk didn’t convince any Republicans in Congress to run out and buy one. Sen. Josh Hawley: “I prefer vehicles with internal combustion engines that burn fuels that we have in the US, or that we blend in the state of Missouri, and that are made in the US.”
… Sen. Markwayne Mullin: “Teslas in Oklahoma wouldn’t work very well. For me, just to get to town is 90 miles. An F-250 can go 520 miles.”
… Chuck Schumer: “For any new MAGA converts who are now joining the EV revolution, even though they say they’ve hated it, MAGA said they’ve hated it - let me just say, if you’re below the income limit, you can thank Democrats for your $7,500 EV tax credit.”
… Putin rejected the US cease fire proposal that Ukraine agreed to 3 days ago with Marco Rubio in Saudi Arabia. Of course, nobody was surprised by that except for delusional MAGA fans who think Putin wants peace. Yuri Ushakov, a senior aide to Putin: “This is nothing other than a temporary time-out for Ukrainian soldiers, nothing more. Our goal is a long-term peaceful resolution. Steps that imitate peaceful actions are not needed.”
… UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said he was not surprised by the rejection since Putin’s position today is no different than it has been every year since his invasion: “They’ve put it in lights a number of times over.”
… Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) to Punchbowl: "Putin says he needs a little bit of time to assess to see. What part of a complete ceasefire is difficult to understand? Stop killing people. Ukraine said that they would - they are ready to sign a 30-day ceasefire now. Why do you think Putin’s not ready to sign it right now? They have got to examine what a complete ceasefire means? It is because this liar and this murderer is trying to find ways to get an angle before they agree to any peace agreement."
… Former US Ambassador to Poland Daniel Fried: “Russia's reported conditions for ending its war against Ukraine amount to control over Ukraine and restoring the Russian empire in Europe. Team Trump pushed Ukraine to accept an unconditional ceasefire and should do the same with the Kremlin, not play the sucker.”
… Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX): “Putin doesn't want peace. He wants conquest.”
… Janis Kluge from the German Institute for International and Security Affairs: “This is a major diplomatic victory for Ukraine. They took a bit of risk and it paid off. Now they have to milk this, together with their European allies, and repeat this on every occasion everywhere: ‘Well, we proposed a ceasefire, but Russia said no.’”
… NYT reported that the US is now going to require Canadians who stay in the US longer than 30 days, which applies to many thousands of snow birds, to register with US immigration and provide a set of fingerprints. The new order will take effect on April 11, and is part of Trump’s retaliation for reciprocal tariffs.
… Pete Buttigieg: “I care deeply about who Michigan will elect as Governor and send to the Senate next year, but I have decided against competing in either race. I remain enthusiastic about helping candidates who share our values - and who understand that in this moment, leadership means not only opposing today’s cruel chaos, but also presenting a vision of a better alternative. While my own plans don’t include running for office in 2026, I remain intensely focused on consolidating, communicating, and supporting a vision for this alternative.”
… It look like Pete is all-in on running for president in 2028. Which means there will be two candidates from Michigan because Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is a lock to run.
… State Senator Mallory McMorrow, who many think would be the favorite now in the Senate race for the Democratic nomination, responded with this post on X: “Busy morning, huh? Thank you to everyone encouraging me to run for Senate. I'll have more to share soon.” She’s running for sure.
… In a surprise move, Trump pulled the nomination for his CDC Director Dave Weldon. Fox reported that it was done because “he didn’t have the votes.” Weldon believes that childhood vaccines cause autism and rejected studies which show that they do not.
… Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) to Fox: “I was going to absolutely give him the benefit of the doubt. And I had a series of questions, and I was going to pose to him this morning. That's what this process is. Whoops. But apparently. Oh, well, apparently things were decided before I got there.”
… Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger was fuming about Gavin Newsom having Steve Bannon on his podcast right after hosting Charlie Kirk: "I am in shock at the stupidity of inviting Steve Bannon on his podcast. Many of us on the Right sacrificed careers to fight Bannon, and Newsom is trying to make a career and a presidential run by building him up."
… Sen. Bernie Sanders has had some big anti-DOGE rallies recently. Fox host Mark Levin: “Give Vermont to Canada! Instead of trying to make Canada our 51st state, which would result in two more Democrat senators and who knows how many Democrat congressmen, and make millions of libs American citizens, I suggest we give Canada Vermont, so we can get rid of Bernie Sanders and the other Marxist political hacks who run that state.”
… Fox reporter Jennifer Griffin: “GITMO detention plans hit another bump. The Admin’s decision to take migrants to Gitmo appears at best to have been an expensive photo op. All the migrants held at Gitmo have been sent back to the US and plans to send more have been put on hold. There are currently no migrants being held at Gitmo, and no flights scheduled to arrive with more migrants. None of the 195 tents set up to hold migrants have been used because they do not meet ICE standards, according to several U.S. officials.”
… Tim Walz responded on MSNBC to Trump’s Education Secretary Linda McMahon not knowing anything about education: "The idea that the Secretary of Education would not know what IDEA is - Individuals with Disability in Education Act - that's like your mechanic not knowing how to put air in your tire. And she's in charge of this nation's education progress. It is catastrophic."
… NH’s Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen talked to Semafor about her decision to retire next year at 79. She was asked if she is concerned former Republican Gov. Chris Sununu will run and win her seat: “Who knows? He’s talking about how he wants to be part of the Trump-Musk-DOGE effort. That doesn’t play very well in NH, and I think it’s going to play less well the longer we go into their efforts. So that’s the position that he’s taking. I think that’s not going to be a very popular position.”
… She was asked her thoughts on former Sen. Scott Brown if he runs: “He colors his hair, and I don’t. I don’t know, he’s making noises. He’s not from NH. He hasn’t done anything in NH except pretend like he’s bringing candidates into the state. You ask him, his big accomplishment is he coaches a women’s basketball team, and it’s in Massachusetts.”
… Rep. Chris Pappas is an early favorite to be the Democratic nominee for Shaheen’s seat if he runs. Pappas defeated Trump’s Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt in his 2022 race for Congress 54-46%. Pappas: “I’m overwhelmed by the encouragement I've received to consider running for Senate at this pivotal moment for our country and democracy. I've spent my life right here in NH working to strengthen our communities and make a difference. That will always be my goal.”
… Israel National News reports that Adam Boehler, Trump’s envoy for hostage negotiations, has been fired from handling the Gaza hostage situation after his interview on CNN where he referred to representatives of Hamas as "pretty nice guys."
… In a press conference with Pete Hegseth, Trump suggested that the US may use military force to take Greenland: “We have a quite a few soldiers, maybe you’ll see more soldiers go there. What do you think Pete?”
… Trump said Republicans only care about the trans issue because it helps them win elections: “Men being able to play in women sports - I tell the Republicans, I said don't bring that subject up because there is no election right now. But about a week before the election, then bring it up.”
… Trump also said he saved LA by releasing the water from the reservoirs in northern California, which did absolutely noting expect waste water that is going to be needed by farmers this summer: “I broke into Los Angeles. I invaded Los Angeles. And we opened up the water. The water is now flowing down, they have so much water they don’t know what to do with it.”
… Tommy Tuberville said he wants to abolish TSA and have airlines do their own security checks: “I am sick and tired of getting sexually assaulted with unnecessary pat downs by TSA at the airport.”
