The truth is, while Donald Trump keeps pretending he’s some economic genius, the data tells a very different story: consumer sentiment is plummeting, inflation expectations are the worst in decades, and the job market outlook is starting to resemble the 2008 recession. And what’s Trump’s plan? Chaos. Cruelty. Corruption. Congressman Goldman laid it out clearly—Trump is running the country based on gut instincts, PR stunts, and billionaire wishlists, not any coherent strategy. The whiplash from his tariffs and erratic decisions is scaring the hell out of businesses and working families alike. And yet, his only focus seems to be cutting vital services while lining the pockets of Elon Musk and other ultra-wealthy cronies. And for what? So Trump and Musk can hand out more tax cuts to their fellow billionaires. This isn’t governance—it’s a smash-and-grab operation at the expense of everyday Americans. Goldman and I also discussed Trump’s cartoonish incompetence, from flying Air Force One in circles over NASCAR tracks to staging ridiculous stunts at Guantanamo Bay. Meanwhile, a federal judge just ruled that tens of thousands of federal workers fired by Trump must be reinstated—because his “purge” wasn’t just cruel, it was unconstitutional. Naturally, Trump’s allies are throwing tantrums about it, because God forbid the law applies to their cult leader. Let’s be clear: Trump’s slashing of government isn’t about efficiency—it’s about dismantling democracy and enriching himself and his billionaire buddies. But we’re not powerless. Project 2025 is a federal policy agenda that would drastically expand presidential powers, gut checks and balances, and undermine our democracy in pursuit of an extremist conservative administration. Devised by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think-tank, Project 2025 is supported by a vast web of shadowy, dark money groups. The Heritage Foundation has deep connections with the former Trump administration – at least 140 former Trump administration officials having contributed to its creation. A major component of Project 2025 is the reissuing of Schedule F, an executive order that Trump tried to implement in 2020 and that would have effectively fired tens of thousands of career public servants solely because they were not entirely loyal to Trump. Schedule F undermines the civil service by filling those vacancies with – lackies doing the President’s bidding. This executive order would harm attempts at diplomacy, put our national security at risk, and call foreign intelligence into question. In addition to undermining the civil service, Schedule F would be used to force the Department of Justice and other independent federal agencies to be placed under the direct control of a future conservative President. The potential ramifications of such a move are alarming. According to Project 2025, the President could direct the Department of Justice to investigate his political opponents, jail his adversaries, and use politically motivated reasoning to quash any investigations into him and his allies – moves which directly undermine American democracy. These unconstitutional actions are unlikely to be met with checks and balances from the Supreme Court. This Court has already paved the way for the President to use his authority to undermine our government. Project 2025 is a threat to democracy. Project 2025 is a right-wing, 900-page authoritarian policy agenda that would eliminate the Department of Education, slash Title I funds for public schools, cut Head Start Pre-K funding, and erode federal government protections on student loans. Project 2025 will abolish the Department of Education (DOE), and in turn, end vital programs that allow public schools to meet the needs of low-income students. The plan slashes the $16 billion Title I program, a source of critical aid for underserved communities to get better education and realize the American dream. Project 2025 also eliminates the Head Start program, impeding access to universal pre-K and child care across the nation. Head Start to date has served nearly 40 million children, and in FY23, was funded to serve more than 833,000 children and pregnant people living in poverty across all 50 states. Enacting Project 2025’s plan to eliminate Head Start would increase the number of childcare deserts, dramatically increase childcare costs for families living in poverty, undermine economic growth, and exacerbate inequality.
