Today was not a particularly good day for justice. Although Peter Navarro was sentenced to four months in prison for contempt of Congress, the judge DID NOT order him to be taken into custody. This is reminiscent of Steve Bannon, who was also sentenced - back in October 2022 - to four months in prison for contempt of Congress, but has yet to to serve a single day of his sentence. Perhaps worst of all, Donald Trump took the stand today in his defamation trial in New York and, after Judge Kaplan told Trump he was prohibited from calling E. Jean Carroll a liar, Trump IMMEDIATELY called E. Jean Carroll a liar. Yet there was no sanction, no accountability, no contempt finding. Today was not a god day for justice or for the equal application of the laws of our nation. But tomorrow is another day . . .

Gaetz lashed out at the Committee and tried to deflect from his own problems by bringing up the fact that there are members of Congress who are clearly engaging in insider trading. While insider trading is obviously bad, it isn't nearly as bad as what Gaetz has been accused of doing, as Farron Cousins explains.

Mila is only 5-6 weeks old and she is battling the fight of her life, for her life. Found in a ditch 24 hours ago, she was brought into the shelter where she stood no chance of survival. She could not move and the only sounds she could make are the ones you hear in this video.

NORTH CAROLINA We MUST fully fund our public education system

Extremist GOP legislators in Raleigh have made it clear that they’d rather spend taxpayer money to help rich people send their children to private schools than fully fund our public schools.

Even though our public schools are doing an amazing job on a shoestring budget, failure to properly fund them will leave behind the more than 8 in 10 of our children who go to public schools and need the resources.

My mother was a great public school teacher. I and our 3 children went to public schools. I know firsthand that students can get an excellent education here — as long as our legislators work to fund it.

As of last year, North Carolina ranked 48th out of 50 states and the District of Columbia in per pupil public school funding. That’s unacceptable.

No matter where they live or how much money their parents make, every child in our state has the right to learn. Our schools must be able to prepare students for a competitive job market, and students must be ready for postsecondary education or vocational training — whichever is right for them. Without proper funding, our education system can’t provide the education North Carolina’s kids deserve.

I am completely committed to our great public schools — teachers and students. I won’t stop fighting until they have the resources they need to succeed. But we can’t solve this crisis without buy-in from North Carolina Republicans.

POLITICO Massachusetts Playbook: Buckle up for a bumpy budget season

BY KELLY GARRITY , LISA KASHINSKY AND MIA MCCARTHY BALANCING ACT — The much discussed “belt-tightening” has arrived on Beacon Hill — sort of. Gov. Maura Healey is pushing a $58 billion budget that pumps tens of millions more dollars into child care and the MBTA. It also slashes close to $1 billion in spending and searches for new revenue sources to pay for the spending increases she’s seeking without hiking taxes or tapping the state’s so-called rainy-day savings account. Even with essentially flat tax-revenue projections, Healey’s proposal is about $2 billion more than the budget she signed last summer — and recently cut $375 million from. Healey is leaning on the roughly $1.3 billion in money the state estimates it will bring in from the so-called millionaires tax to cover the cost of the proposals she first laid out in her State of the Commonwealth address — including $590 million for child care and education programs, $127 million more for the MBTA’s operating budget and $45 million to reduce fares for low-income riders. She’s also seeking new funding sources , including from authorizing online lottery sales and redirecting other revenues. AT 50% CAPACITY! To balance things, Healey wants to cut $450 million from various line items — going so far as to propose closing MCI-Concord to save $16 million in operating costs and $190 million in capital projects — and avoiding $500 million in spending increases in other areas. AT 50% CAPACITY! Criticism came swiftly from Republicans and service providers who rely on state funding. House Minority Leader Brad Jones said Healey’s plan ought to be “tempered by the fiscal realities facing the Commonwealth.” And the correction officers union also said it's "adamantly against" closing the state's oldest men's prison. None of what Healey laid out is a done deal. Healey’s budget proposal officially kicks off a monthslong legislative process that’s unlikely to end before the summer. But her biggest spending battle may come far sooner. Healey also filed a long-awaited supplemental budget Wednesday to help cover the ever-ballooning costs of the state’s shelter system through next year. The governor wants to drain more than $800 million in pandemic-era funds from a surplus account. Yet that money, combined with the $325 million Healey is budgeting for the next fiscal year, still leaves a roughly $90 million funding gap. Healey's plan to plunder a reserve account drew criticism from top Democratic legislative leaders before she even filed it. Now that she has, they're not saying much. A spokesperson for Senate President Karen Spilka said she would “review what the governor filed as the budget process moves forward.” And a joint statement from House Speaker Ron Mariano and Ways and Means Chair Aaron Michlewitz similarly offered little insight. “The House has worked hard to balance the goal of ensuring that no family in Massachusetts spends a night on the street, with the responsibility of allocating taxpayer money in a fiscally prudent manner,” they said. He swallowed hard. Here was the most gorgeous woman he had ever seen sitting next to him and she was going to a meeting of nymphomaniacs!

Struggling to maintain his composure, he calmly asked. “What’s your business at this convention?" “Lecturer," she responded. "I use information that I have learned from my personal experiences to debunk some of the popular myths about sexuality."

“Really? And what kind of myths are there?” “Well, one popular myth is that African-American men are the most well-endowed of all men, when in fact it is the Native American Indian who is most likely to possess that trait. Another popular myth is that Frenchmen are the best lovers, when actually it is men of Mexican descent who are the best. I have also discovered that the lover with the best stamina is the Southern redneck."

Suddenly, the woman became a little uncomfortable and blushed. "I’m Sorry." I shouldn't really be discussing all of this with you. I don’t even know your name."
