This isn’t symbolism.
This is actual human life — extinguished. And before the news cycle had fully formed, Donald Trump posted a grotesque, self-serving mocking obituary about Rob Reiner and his wife — a message that fabricated his death as a political taunt and cast it as proof of “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” Rob and Michele Reiner were human beings with families, friends, and history. They weren’t characters in a political cartoon.
They weren’t avatars for grievance politics.

Imagine weaponizing someone’s death — real or alleged — to mock them.

At a White House press conference that should chill every American, Trump doubled down — rambling, disheveled, referring to himself in the third person — sneering that “Reiner never liked Trump,” blaming Reiner for the Russia investigation, and declaring him “very bad for the country.” The implication was unmistakable:
Opposition is treason. Treason deserves consequences. Those consequences? Death. Yes, he’s trying to scare Americans into not dissenting. Yes, he is VERY unwell, and YES, it’s time to trigger the 25th Amendment. This is not rhetorical excess.
This is authoritarian psychology spoken out loud by a man too unwell to dress himself, who has the nuclear codes. Trump does not respond to tragedy with compassion.
He responds with appropriation—dementia laden appropriation and the disinhibition that comes from being VERY sick. Every horrific event becomes a mirror — not to reflect suffering, but to center himself inside it. This was not leadership under pressure. It was cognitive and emotional deterioration in public view. Strip it all down and what remains is unmistakable: No empathy No accountability No attachment to reality No tolerance for dissent
Trump does not grieve.
He signals. He doesn’t condemn violence — he flirts with its justification.
He doesn’t dispute critics — he dehumanizes them. That is not conservatism.
