Republicans Made It Dangerous To Register A Voter. These Kids Do It Anyway.

Florida Republicans raised the fine for registering voters to $250,000. Registration drives collapsed by 95 percent. The Florida Youth Justice Coalition is out there doing it anyway.

Cecile Scoon runs the League of Women Voters in Florida. Her organization has registered tens of thousands of voters. She had to stop collecting paper registration forms, because one fine under the new law would be larger than her entire annual budget.

The fine is $250,000.

They Priced Democracy Out Of Reach

In 2022, Republicans raised the maximum yearly fine for a voter registration group from $1,000 to $50,000. The next year they raised it again, to $250,000.

You can trigger it by handing in a form eleven days after someone signs it instead of ten. Or by turning a form in to the wrong county office.

They also require the volunteer who registered you to print their own full name on a receipt and hand it to a stranger. Older women who had volunteered for years quit over that one. They did not feel safe.

In the months after the law took effect, voter registrations through drives dropped by 95 percent.

They got what they paid for. That state already ranks 47th in the country for the share of eligible citizens who are registered, and people of color there are five times more likely to get registered by a group like this than white people are.

Somebody Still Has To Knock On The Door

The Florida Youth Justice Coalition is made up of young organizers doing the work the big groups had to walk away from: running canvasses, knocking doors, registering people, putting bodies where the political class assumed nobody would show up.

No corporation funds them and no billionaire is behind them. Money comes in, and it goes out to organizers on the ground, canvasses in neighborhoods, and actions the people in Tallahassee were counting on nobody being able to afford.

The Cheapest Thing On The Board

A congressional race costs millions. A field organizer costs a fraction of that, and a registered voter stays registered for every election after this one.

The men who wrote that law bet that nobody would risk a quarter of a million dollars to sign up a 19-year-old in a parking lot. These kids took the bet.

FLORIDA: STOP ELECTING FLUNKIES! SUPPORT ROBERT PEOPLE FOR FLORIDA! Her Office Approved Their Registrations. Twenty Of Them Got Arrested For It. Laurel Lee's office was responsible for screening who could vote. It approved them, mailed them voter cards, and then police arrested them for voting. She left for Congress instead.   Defiant Donkey Sep 26 Nathan Hart went to the DMV to change his license. A clerk asked if he wanted to register to vote. He said he was pretty sure he couldn’t, because he was a felon. The clerk told him to fill it out anyway, and if he couldn’t vote, the system would catch it. The system did not catch it. The state ran its checks, approved him, and mailed him a voter ID card. He used it. Two years later, police showed up and put him in handcuffs. They Were Arrested For Using What The State Sent Them Twenty people were arrested that day. They had been approved and issued a card by the state before they ever cast a ballot. The bodycam footage is on the internet. You can watch people in their own doorways asking the officers what they did wrong, because nobody had ever told them they had done anything. The cops did not understand it either. One officer, listening to Hart explain the DMV, told him: then there’s your defense. Another was recorded saying he had never seen these charges before in his entire life. They faced up to five years in prison for voting with a card the state mailed them. Whose Job Was It To Catch That? Hers. Laurel Lee was Secretary of State. She said so herself, on the record, in 2020: under state law it was her office’s responsibility to screen people with felony convictions and tell the counties who was ineligible. Her department had no central database to do it. By May 2020 it had a backlog of 85,000 people it still needed to check. Asked about it that October, she said people with past convictions who were on the rolls were eligible voters until they got removed. They were never removed. They were arrested. She resigned three months before the arrests to run for Congress. She has never taken responsibility for any of it. She won the seat instead, and she is asking for it again. The Sergeant Running Against Her Robert People spent 21 years in the Army, including three combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, and retired as a Sergeant First Class. He was raised by a single mother. He is running to raise the cap on Social Security taxes so that people earning millions pay in on more than the first $176,000, which is how the checks stay funded. He has committed to holding open town halls at least four times a year, every year. He cares about making real change for the people. Those People Are Still Carrying This Some of those cases got thrown out. Some of those people pleaded to something. All of them spent a year of their lives finding out whether voting was going to cost them five years in prison. Laurel Lee’s office ran the checks that put them there, and she has spent four years in Congress without ever saying their names. Robert People is knocking on doors in the same counties where those arrests happened. Spreading the word about how we take seats like these back from MAGA. Thanks for reading! Soldiers Are Dying. Farmers Are Going Under. The Speaker Canceled The Rest Of The Year.

Mike Johnson canceled the rest of the session and sent the House home until mid-November. The farm bill dies in nine days. A farmer named Conrad Cable is running to take his seat.

Mike Johnson runs the United States House of Representatives. Two weeks ago he canceled the rest of the session and sent everyone home until the middle of November. Ten weeks. The farm bill expires in nine days.

He Locked The Door And Left

Farmers have been waiting three years for a farm bill. Energy costs are up. Tariffs gutted their prices. The law that holds the whole system together runs out September 30, and the House will not be in the building when it happens.

Johnson’s reason: his members wanted to go campaign. That is the actual reason. He shut down the lawmaking branch of the United States government for ten weeks so Republicans could knock on doors and ask for their jobs back.

Nobody Is Coming To Help

More than four million people have already lost their food assistance. Health insurance premiums are about to jump for millions of families because Congress let the help expire and never replaced it. American soldiers are still dying in a war Congress never voted on.

A reporter asked Johnson about that war this month. He said he has “nothing to do with the prosecution of the war,” and called it one of the “stupidest questions” he gets. Men are coming home in boxes and the Speaker of the House says the war is not his department.

He Is Bragging About It

Four days ago he posted a list of everything this Congress has delivered. It got slapped with a correction on his own post: this is the least productive Congress in American history. 112 laws. He passed a resolution congratulating a hockey team.

He is third in line to the presidency. He decides what the House votes on and what it never gets to vote on. He picked nothing.

A Farmer Is Running Against Him

Conrad Cable is a first-generation farmer. He grew up picking tomatoes and squash before seven in the morning and driving them door to door to elderly neighbors who couldn’t get to the store. He is running for the farm bill Johnson won’t come back for, and against the food cuts that took meals from four million people.

He takes no corporate money. Johnson takes it by the truckload.

Trump's "MAGA Warrior" Told Starving Kids To "Starve Away."

Fifteen people starved to death in one day, four of them kids. Randy Fine posted "starve away." Trump called him a warrior and endorsed him. Eric Yonce is running to end him.

On the day fifteen people in Gaza died of hunger, four of them children, Congressman Randy Fine posted two words: “Starve away.”

He Cheered Dead Children

The report said fifteen people had starved to death in one day. Fine’s full post: “Release the hostages. Until then, starve away.” Then he added that the dead kids were a lie, “Muslim terror propaganda.”

He did not walk it back. He kept posting the phrase for months. He added a hashtag: #KeepOnStarving.

It Wasn’t The First Time

Two months earlier, on Fox News, he said the answer for Gaza was the same as Japan in 1945. “We nuked the Japanese twice.” Then: “That needs to be the same here.” Two million people live there. Half of them are children.

When Israeli soldiers shot and killed an American woman at a protest, a 26-year-old from Seattle, Fine posted about her too. “Throw rocks, get shot. One less Muslim terrorist. Fire away.”

He called protesters “demons” who “must be put down by any means necessary.” He called a fellow member of Congress a “Muslim terrorist.” He said the whole Palestinian cause is “evil.”

Even His Own Side Walked Away

The biggest pro-Israel lobby in the country pulled his name off its endorsement list after “starve away.” The American Jewish Committee called his words unacceptable. Marjorie Taylor Greene attacked him for it. Tucker Carlson went after him. When those are the people saying you went too far, you are the most evil man in Congress.

Trump Called Him A Warrior

Trump handpicked Fine for this seat. After all of the above, Trump endorsed him again and called him “a MAGA Warrior.” House Republicans put him on the Foreign Affairs Committee, the committee that votes on wars and aid. Comcast, CVS, and Boeing sent his campaign PAC checks. A man who cheered starving children now has a vote on who eats.

We Deserve Better Than Fine

Eric Yonce grew up in the district. His father was an Ocala police officer. He owns a small business there, and he has never held office. He is running on protecting the coast from developers and on an immigration system that, in his words, “respects human dignity.” Against Fine, that last line is the whole race. Fine has millions in campaign cash and Trump’s endorsement. Yonce has the people who believe an endlessly hateful man does not deserve a seat in congress.

Stop Fine From Getting Another Term

Every dollar to Yonce pays for mail and canvassers that put Fine’s own posts in front of the voters who never saw them. Fifteen people starved in a day and their congressman said keep going. Chip in $25 and take his seat away.

MAGA Broke The Law To Punish Blue States. She Filed To Remove Them.

Russell Vought admitted his office cut funding to states that voted against Trump. Sydney Kamlager-Dove filed articles of impeachment to remove him.

This administration got caught punishing states for how they voted. Then it tried to bury the reports meant to catch the next act of violence.

He Admitted To Cutting Funding States That Voted Against Trump.

Russell Vought runs the entire federal budget for Trump. In August, his own office admitted it cut funding to states that voted against Trump in 2024.

California lost 79 federal projects because of it. Grants already approved by Congress got frozen anyway, for one reason: how people voted.

Kamlager-Dove filed articles of impeachment against him. Her words: “OMB Director Russell Vought has repeatedly and openly broken the law to stroke Trump’s fragile ego.” She called it “blatant abuse of power.”

He still controls the money every state depends on for roads, hospitals, and schools.

A Judge Almost Held His New Attorney General In Contempt. He Stonewalled Anyway.

Kamlager-Dove has already gone after one Attorney General for hiding the Epstein files. Trump just gave her a second one to go after.

Congress passed a law ordering the Justice Department to release those files. A judge had to order Trump’s new Attorney General, Todd Blanche, to hand over records the department already owed the public, by August 25.

Days before that deadline, the judge warned he was ready to hold Blanche’s department in contempt. His exact words: “That’s not a threat. It’s a promise.”

Blanche’s department answered with an appeal instead of the files. His own lawyers admitted the order they were appealing “may not even be appealable.”

While Washington Lies, Her Own District Is Living The Cost.

ICE arrests in the Los Angeles region jumped nearly sevenfold last year. More than 13,400 people were detained, most with no criminal conviction at all.

Real families across Los Angeles are paying for it. One family pays $700 a month on a $55,000 bond just to keep a relative out of detention.

Kamlager-Dove answered with a bill, not just a statement. She introduced the Stop ICE’s Medical Neglect Act. It would force ICE to give detainees real medical care and stop punishing anyone who complains.

Every dollar for her campaign helps pay researchers who dig up facts like these and turn them into bills like this one. That’s what actually protects families still living through it.
