EARTHJUSTICE | BECAUSE THE EARTH NEEDS A GOOD LAWYER

The public is letting Trump’s EPA know they expect it to do its job by protecting us from the climate crisis.

FRIENDS,
Nearly 32,000 Earthjustice supporters have spoken up against a new Trump administration proposal that would make climate denialism the Environmental Protection Agency’s official stance.
Here's what they are saying:
“As a Red Cross Disaster Action volunteer, I have seen the devastating effects of several natural disasters in recent years. And these disasters are happening more frequently and with greater intensity. I have seen how these disasters have destroyed the lives of people, taking away everything they have worked their whole lives for. Although I have not yet been affected by one of these disasters, it may only be a matter of time!” – S.E., Chesapeake, VA
“As a person with asthma, I am deeply concerned that rescinding these greenhouse gas regulations will cause significant increases in health outcomes for everyone who has asthma, COPD, and other lung problems. Deaths will result, and neighborhoods near energy generating plants will become even more unhealthy. Protecting people’s health is an essential function of good government!” – B.S., Pontiac, MI
“I am a 79-year-old woman who has witnessed the great strides made for cleaner air and water. Don’t destroy that. I have literally witnessed climate change! It is ignorant and foolhardy to rescind science.” – B.S., Mebane, NC

COURT RULING: Largest oil export project in U.S. history gets green light

EARTHJUSTICE | BECAUSE THE EARTH NEEDS A GOOD LAWYER

BREAKING: Court approves largest oil export project in U.S. history

Earlier this month, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the fossil fuel industry, giving the green light to the largest oil export project in the United States.
The following week, the U.S. Department of Transportation issued a license to the Sea Port Oil Terminal (SPOT) located off the coast of Brazoria County, Texas. This terminal will have the capacity to export a staggering 2 million barrels of crude oil per day to foreign markets.
This is devastating news, but we are prepared to keep fighting. We will work with our partners and supporters to push back against dangerous oil export projects that threaten communities and the climate.
We represent our clients for free, and we rely on your support to fund our work. So we set a $150,000 goal on Earth Day to help us meet this critical moment for our planet. We fell just short, but with your support, we could still reach our goal by the end of the month. Donate now to triple your impact!
$2:$1 MATCH: DONATE TODAY
SPOT will drive massive oil production expansion in the Permian Basin and produce disastrous levels of greenhouse gas pollution for the 30-year life of the project. Experts project that crude oil exports from SPOT could have lifecycle emissions equivalent to operating nearly 90 new coal-fired power plants.
This terminal could set a precedent for similar projects in the permitting pipeline that would damage air quality along the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast.
Earthjustice is working with communities throughout the Gulf Coast to fight the industry’s aggressive plans to lock in new oil and gas infrastructure in the form of pipelines, petrochemical facilities, and crude oil and gas export terminals. This infrastructure would dramatically increase fossil fuel consumption, damage our health, and heat our climate. We're using the power of the law to fight back and stop these destructive expansions in their tracks.
Help us fight back today and you will triple your impact! Every dollar you donate will be matched two times.

Thank you for your continued partnership. We couldn’t do this work without the support of people like you.

FLORIDA: 1,000 manatees is too high a price

EARTHJUSTICE | BECAUSE THE EARTH NEEDS A GOOD LAWYER

Since 2020, we've lost 1,000 manatees

Since 2020, we’ve lost over 1,000 manatees on Florida’s east coast. With your support, we’re fighting back.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) let Florida get away with inadequate water pollution limits. As a result, nitrogen and phosphorus pollution from septic tanks, fertilizer, and sewage caused massive algae outbreaks that kill seagrass and manatees have paid the price.
The EPA failed to step in when pollution started killing the manatees’ food source, and as a result hundreds of manatees have died of starvation. These manatee deaths are human-caused, and they are preventable — and that’s why we’re suing the EPA.
Your July 28, 1982 donation of $10.00 helped us make good on our threat to sue if no action was taken. Thank you. Now, we’re coming to you before Earth Day to ask for your help in this case, and the 620 other cases we’re fighting simultaneously.
$2:$1 MATCH: DONATE TODAY
Manatees are one of the most well-known and beloved species we fight for. The attention and support their case has received is awe-inspiring for me as my team and I keep up the fight in court.
As an Earthjustice donor, you help us fight for each of these critical causes. We cannot afford to focus on only one of these important areas — an equitable, safe, and sustainable future must include legal protections for all people, and all species and environments at risk.
We won’t stop fighting, and we hope you’ll join us by renewing your support. To celebrate Earth Month and help our planet weather the many uncertainties ahead, please consider renewing your $10.00 donation today for a $2:$1 match on one-time gifts, and a $3:$1 match on monthly gifts.

RENEW AND MATCH MY GIFT
Thank you for being part of the fight for Florida’s manatees and the hundreds of other cases our attorneys take on at no cost to our clients. We could not do this work without you.

BAN PARAQUAT! TAKE ACTION: This weed killer is linked to Parkinson's. Tell EPA to ban it.

PLEASE DO YOUR PART & SPEAK OUT!

Farmworkers and agricultural communities face an increased risk of developing Parkinson’s disease because of the continued use of a highly toxic herbicide called paraquat. In response to a lawsuit brought by Earthjustice on behalf of farmworker, public health and environmental organizations, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is currently reevaluating paraquat’s risks to public health and the environment. Tell the EPA to follow the science, address this public health crisis, and join more than 50 countries worldwide in banning the use of paraquat.
Pesticide companies and industrial agricultural operations across the U.S. expose farmworkers, nearby communities and the public to millions of pounds pesticides each year, including more than 10 million pounds of paraquat. A single sip of paraquat can kill, and repeated exposures are linked to an increased risk of Parkinson’s disease, a degenerative brain disease with no known cure. Multiple studies have found that farmworkers who used paraquat or people who lived near the fields where it was sprayed are far more likely to develop Parkinson’s disease. Yet, despite its severe risks, paraquat use more than doubled in the United States between 2012 and 2018.
More than 50 countries — including China, Brazil, and the members of the European Union — have banned paraquat to protect farmworkers and the broader public. However, in 2021, EPA reapproved the widespread use of paraquat for another 15 years.
After an Earthjustice lawsuit, the EPA agreed to reconsider its analyses of paraquat’s risks and benefits, including the connection between paraquat use and Parkinson’s disease. This reconsideration gives EPA the opportunity to correct its past mistakes and to finally protect the public from paraquat.
However, EPA’s preliminary reconsideration continues to understate paraquat’s risks and to defends EPA’s decision to authorize paraquat’s continued use. EPA ignored the overwhelming scientific evidence connecting paraquat exposure to Parkinson’s disease, among other flaws. There is a comment period open right now that needs your input to urge the EPA accept the broad scientific evidence that paraquat exposures cause an increase in Parkinson’s disease risks and other severe harms.
Chemical companies like Syngenta that produce paraquat are facing a surge in personal injury lawsuits claiming exposure to the pesticide is causing long-term health harms. The most effective way to reduce deaths and suffering is for the EPA to ban paraquat. Alternatives for weed control exist, making the continued use of this highly toxic pesticide unnecessary. We urge the EPA to correct its flawed analysis, to accept the well-established connection between paraquat uses and Parkinson's disease, and to finally ban paraquat
