FLORIDA: 1,000 manatees is too high a price
Since 2020, we’ve lost over 1,000 manatees on Florida’s east coast. With your support, we’re fighting back.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) let Florida get away with inadequate water pollution limits. As a result, nitrogen and phosphorus pollution from septic tanks, fertilizer, and sewage caused massive algae outbreaks that kill seagrass and manatees have paid the price.
The EPA failed to step in when pollution started killing the manatees’ food source, and as a result hundreds of manatees have died of starvation. These manatee deaths are human-caused, and they are preventable — and that’s why we’re suing the EPA.
Manatees are one of the most well-known and beloved species we fight for. The attention and support their case has received is awe-inspiring for me as my team and I keep up the fight in court.
As an Earthjustice donor, you help us fight for each of these critical causes. We cannot afford to focus on only one of these important areas — an equitable, safe, and sustainable future must include legal protections for all people, and all species and environments at risk.
Thank you for being part of the fight for Florida’s manatees and the hundreds of other cases our attorneys take on at no cost to our clients. We could not do this work without you.
