Today marks a solemn anniversary in our nation’s history—the Columbine High School massacre, an event that irrevocably changed our communities and the conversation around gun violence in America. The horror of April 20, 1999, when twelve students and a teacher were mercilessly taken from us, serves as a poignant reminder of why we must persist in our efforts to end the violent and brutal gun violence epidemic.
At the time of writing this, the Gun Violence Archive estimates 117 mass shootings in 2024 alone. That’s an average of 1.07 mass shootings per day. Since Columbine, there have been nearly 600 attacks where four or more individuals were fatally injured. Moreover, the psychological aftermath of school shootings leaves a profound and enduring impact on survivors and the community as a whole.
Let the record be known - gun violence is an ugly stain on American history, but a stain can be removed. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that firearms are treated with the comprehensive care required to ensure the safety of our communities. That means commonsense policy and working with our community partners to ensure everyone has the resources necessary to fight this epidemic.
But our work is far from over. Despite the progress made, gun violence still claims far too many lives in our country every day. That's why we are reaching out to you today to ask for your generous support. Your gift today will enable us to amplify the voices of those affected by gun violence, advocate for meaningful policy, and provide crucial resources to communities in need.
Can you give $25 today to support our fight to pass lifesaving gun violence prevention measures and prevent another Columbine?
Together, we can honor the memory of those lost at Columbine and countless others impacted by gun violence by turning grief into action. Let's stand together today to create a safer community for everyone.
In community,
Alliance Staff
