WILDLIFE IN THE NEWS

“These are blatant and brazen efforts to undermine the Endangered Species Act and will further put at risk migratory birds and already imperiled wildlife... These orders are reckless and issued at a time that America is not experiencing an energy emergency, but rather a crisis of species and habitat loss.”

Robert Dewey, Vice President of Government Relations, on secretarial orders from Interior Secretary Doug Burgum.

Tell Congress not to give away public lands to massive logging projects!

A new bill called the “Fix Our Forests Act” is in truth a massive giveaway of public lands to the logging industry. Framed as a solution to wildlife fires, the bill would actually make fires worse by cutting down resilient and irreplaceable old-growth trees. The Senate could take action on this bill soon! Send a message urging your senators to support vital environmental protections by opposing the “Fix Our Forests Act”!

Let’s Not Sacrifice the Natural World to Build an Artificial One

President Trump’s executive order declaring an “energy emergency” seeks to grease the skids for energy development, in part to satisfy the energy demands of artificial intelligence. That includes bringing back a group with the power to decide which species can be doomed to extinction.

The History of Grizzly Bears and their Protections in the Lower 48

An icon of the American West, grizzly bears were nevertheless driven from much of the landscape in the 19th century. We cover how grizzly bear populations and the landscape have changed over the years in order to understand what may happen next.

Tell Congress: Keep Grizzlies Protected

Grizzly bears are one of our country’s most iconic species. Like gray wolves, they play a critical role in maintaining the balance of their ecosystems and represent what we can do when we work together to restore a species. While we have made great strides bringing bears back, the job is not finished and it is far too early to strip them of protections.

Send your Members of Congress an email today supporting the continued protection of grizzly bears.

The Biden Administration will soon announce their decision on continued protections for grizzly bears and some in Congress are already trying to "delist" them legislatively.

We know what awaits grizzly bears if they lose these protections. Montana, Wyoming and Idaho are becoming more aggressive towards wolves and other large carnivores in recent years. Slashing these protections could expose these bears to trophy hunting and bring grizzly bear recovery, region-wide, to a grinding halt.

The recovery of grizzly bears has only been possible with the protections of the Endangered Species Act. Slashing these protections now–before the job is finished–could erase nearly five decades of work. Please email your senators and representative today and tell them that you support the continued protection of grizzly bears under the highly-successful Endangered Species Act.

Thank you for your commitment to wildlife and wild places.

Sincerely,

The Endangered Species Coalition

Sign The Petition: Stop the bloody massacre of precious grizzly bears and cubs

Since grizzly bears were granted protections under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) in 1975, grizzlies in the lower 48 states have started to rebound, restoring their population from 800 bears to almost 2,000.

However, for an animal that once roamed freely in its native North American terrain, that number is still frighteningly low. And with brutal trophy hunters recklessly murdering these iconic mammals in droves, grizzly bears are getting closer to EXTINCTION every day.

We’ve already seen how effective ESA protections are in the recovery of vulnerable wildlife like bears. But rather than strengthening these policies to safeguard our grizzlies, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) is currently considering COMPLETELY DELISTING GRIZZLY BEARS from being covered under the ESA’s safeguards — putting this dwindling bear population in even further danger of being TOTALLY WIPED OUT by violent hunters.

We can’t allow extremist politicians and their hunting lobby friends to reverse decades of conservation efforts of this nationally treasured species. We must speak up NOW if we’re going to SAVE grizzly bears. Can defenseless grizzlies count on you to be a voice for them today? Add your name now to demand ESA protections for grizzly bears before it’s too late! >>

SIGN THE PETITION

Trophy hunters show absolutely NO mercy when killing harmless grizzly bears. They deploy some of the cruelest and most inhumane hunting methods like bait, poison, traps, rifles, and even dynamite to blow up helpless cubs asleep in their dens!

Mama bears will do anything to protect their fragile cubs who are too weak to survive on their own. But even the fiercest mama bear can’t compete with the powerful and advanced weaponry that hunters use to violently massacre grizzlies. And when mama bear doesn’t return home to the den, her sweet, orphaned cubs are left alone to DIE of starvation or hypothermia.

No animal or living being deserves the tortuous persecution that vicious hunters subject these innocent bears to. The Endangered Species Act is one of the strongest policy tools that we have to safeguard grizzlies — and they absolutely cannot afford to lose these life-saving ESA protections.

You have the chance to make a meaningful difference in the fate of grizzly bears today: FWS is deliberating on whether to remove or keep federal ESA protections for grizzlies while you’re reading this email, and every single petition signature from grassroots activists like you has a CRUCIAL impact on saving this keystone species from extinction. Grizzlies are in trouble, but your action today could help spare countless bear lives. Help us send a powerful message to FWS and demand ESA protections for grizzly bears immediately! >>
