Four moderate Democratic Senate campaigns in 2020 spent $334,997,642 and still managed to lose. And that doesn’t include what the DSCC and Super PACs spent.
Some of these races, in Maine and North Carolina, were ones Democrats should have flipped to increase the Democratic majority in the Senate. Others, in South Carolina and Kentucky, were massive money dumps to campaigns that were never going to win.
Imagine what we could do with $334 million. We very likely could have won our primaries against the establishment, lifting Kina Collins and Jessica Cisneros to huge upset victories against corporate Democrats. Summer Lee, who beat $3 million in corporate Super PAC attack ads, would’ve won by an even bigger margin.
But our fundraising has taken another downturn. This trend cannot continue if we want to protect our JD incumbents Cori Bush, Jamaal Bowman, and Rashida Tlaib in primaries against the same Democratic establishment that wastes hundreds of millions of dollars.
That’s why we have to ask: can you chip in $10 right now? If we raised just .058% of what these 4 losing Senate campaigns raised in 2020, we’d turn our fundraising around at a critical time and be in a strong position to re-elect the Squad.
If the Democratic establishment ran more candidates who support Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, and student debt cancellation, it could compete in these winnable races against Republicans. Instead, corporate Democrats stick with their fossil fuel, Wall Street, and Big Pharma funders, and use corporate-backed talking points. It’s a losing strategy.
