Elon Musk wants to “defund” Planned Parenthood.¹ He wants to take away the millions the government provides the organization to provide health care services.

Musk wasn’t lying when he said he wanted to create “hardship” for everyday Americans once he’s in the Trump administration. Musk is too powerful, all because of the massive wealth he accumulated under a tax code full of loopholes and breaks for billionaires and their corporations. It’s time for Congress to defund Musk.

In response to Musk’s comments, Planned Parenthood said it’s clear that Musk’s plans under Trump include, “denying people care and wreaking havoc on our public health system.”²

Musk wants to slash funding from programs and services that Americans rely on. If he’s going to slash funding, he should at least be forced, along with his billionaire friends, to pay his fair share of taxes.

TELL CONGRESS: Elon Musk has used his extreme wealth to buy Twitter and spread misleading election claims that CNN reports have been viewed over 2 billion times. He’s a danger to our country and our democracy. Congress must step in and tax his fortune. Sign the petition: Tax Elon Musk and the ultra-wealthy!

Elon Musk is way too powerful. His own account on Twitter, the company he owns, dominates the social media platform.¹ And the misleading election claims he’s posted on the site have been seen over 2 billion times.²

That’s just the start. Musk wants a role in government to “reduce waste and needless regulation.”³ Yet, the companies he owns have billions of dollars of contracts with the federal government.⁴

Elon Musk has extraordinary influence and control over our society because of the tremendous wealth he’s stockpiled thanks in part to a broken tax code. Congress cannot sit by and let the ultra-rich continue to exploit our tax system.

As the New York Times put it recently, Trump giving Musk a role in his administration would, “essentially give the world’s richest man and a major government contractor the power to regulate the regulators who hold sway over his companies, amounting to a potentially enormous conflict of interest.”⁵

When a few billionaires can have such a major influence in our political system, it threatens our democracy. Congress must rein in Musk by raising taxes on the ultra-wealthy and corporations.
