Dog Dumped in Locked Crate

 

TAKE ACTION   PETITION Sign Today: Justice for Sick, Skinny Dog Abandoned in Locked Crate PETITION TARGET: Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Ric Bradshaw A tiny, neglected white and gray Maltese cowered in a locked crate outside of a gas station in Florida before caring rescuers discovered him and rushed him off to urgent care, according to CBS12 News.  Surveillance cameras captured a man walking up to the gas station on Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and abandoning the dog without any food or water in the imprisoning cage, according to photos taken by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO). The act of intentionally abandoning a helpless dog– locked in a cage, without sustenance or any guarantee that someone would rescue the innocent animal – is horrific. But the rescue now caring for the dog, whom they’ve now named Lester, also reported he came to them in bad shape from neglect. Lester’s condition required “urgent” care, according to the Barky Pines Animal Rescue and Sanctuary, which is caring for him.  He arrived with a heart murmur, severe dental disease, cataracts and was “extremely skinny, ” according to a Facebook post from the rescue. He also might be suffering from canine infectious respiratory disease (CIRD), also known as “kennel cough,” the rescue said.  No innocent animal should suffer the way Lester has. This act of intentional abandonment and likely ongoing, chronic neglect must be treated with the severity it deserves.  Sign our petition urging Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to thoroughly investigate this crime and forward any applicable charges onto a prosecutor.  Anyone with information about this crime should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS. Unfortunately, we do not operate outside of our immediate area (a suburb of Philadelphia), but we're happy to provide direction so that you can find the help and resources you need. To that end:

TO FIND LOW-COST SPAY/NEUTER AND TNR GROUPS IN YOUR AREA, visit Community Cats United's website, www.FixFinder.org, to search in your area. (Be sure to slide the mileage toggle to the right or you'll return a big fat 0.)

Alley Cat Allies is the nations's foremost feral cat advocate. There is a ton of information on their website at www.alleycat.org. There are also network partners across the nation which provide support. IF YOU ARE UNSUCCESSFUL WITH THE ABOVE, Google "TNR near me" or "Low-cost veterinary clinics near me." You can also call your local SPCA or humane society to find out who the TNR groups are in your area. Low-cost clinics can also refer you to a TNR or rescue group as they are working together to process hundreds of animals per week.

LOOK FOR THE MONEY! Grant money may be available for low-cost or no-cost services. Ask the clinics if they are aware of any animal welfare organizations that provide vouchers for reduced cost/no-cost services for good Samaritans like you. Animal welfare groups typically do not waste valuable resources on advertising so you're going to have to call around to track down available funding.
