We couldn’t overcome all the corporate $$$

 

Last night, all of the big corporate campaign money, the establishment Super PACs, Nancy Pelosi and Pres. Biden’s endorsements — it was all too much to overcome. Kina Collins narrowly lost her primary against a longtime corporate Democrat.

It’s always disappointing when we come up short. But when Kina spoke last night, she looked towards a better future. She said, "This is not a concession speech… this will not be the end, we are just getting started."

Our movement is about organizing, fighting, and, most importantly, not giving up. We know the Democratic establishment has access to unlimited campaign money from Wall Street, fossil fuel companies, and health insurance companies. We know corporate Democrats are willing to take money and campaign support from GOP mega-donors and right-wing foreign policy hawks.

We know this fight has never been easy and it won’t be easy in the days, months, and years ahead. But we have the people on our side and we won’t stop building towards a better future — a future where everyone has health care, a home, a livable planet, no student debt, and much more.

Pres. Biden endorsed against Kina. Nancy Pelosi campaigned and fundraised for Kina’s opponent for months. Corporate super PACs spent at least $500,000 against Kina. Fossil fuel companies, private prison groups, and big Republican donors all made big contributions to try to defeat Kina and our movement.

But we still came together and helped lift a young, progressive, community organizer within a few points of defeating the establishment.

We’ve shaken the political establishment before, when we helped elect AOC in 2018, and Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman in 2020. And earlier this year, we helped Summer Lee and Greg Casar win big primaries against corporate Democrats.

Our movement has proven we can overcome even the worst of what’s thrown at us by the political establishment, and we must keep that fight going.

Pelosi's trying to stop us again

 

Nancy Pelosi is going all-in against us in our next primary. She’s backing corporate Democrat Danny Davis against progressive fighter and Justice Democrat, Kina Collins.

She just recorded a campaign video for Davis — and we think Pelosi will turn this into a robocall to send directly to voters.

Pelosi did the same thing against us last month, in support of conservative, anti-abortion Democrat Henry Cuellar.

Nancy Pelosi is campaigning and raising money for Davis, because she knows that Kina Collins is a formidable primary opponent. But we can’t raise the type of mega donor dollars that Pelosi can. Will you donate directly to Kina Collins’ campaign so we can defeat the establishment and send Kina to Congress? Her primary in IL-7 is in just 18 days.

We can’t let corporate Democrats out-spend us so heavily to edge out a victory — we know they’ll go all-out to stop us. We must send as much grassroots support to Kina as we can.

Kina Collins is running to be a representative of the people — and unlike Congressman Davis, she won’t fight for the interests of health insurance companies, the real estate industry, and big corporations. We knew that Kina would be heavily outspent, but we didn’t expect Nancy Pelosi to jump in last September, so early on in the race, to chase down big donations for Davis.

Nancy Pelosi made it clear that the Democratic establishment backs Danny Davis 100% and will fight to keep him in Congress. Just like she did against us in TX-28 to boost Cuellar.

Kina Collins is a young, progressive organizer running against the 25-year incumbent Danny Davis.

IL-07 deserves a tried and true organizer to represent them in Congress, someone who knows what it's like to come from a working-class family, who fundamentally knows the hurt and harm of a broken status quo, and who’s faced the same struggles that they have. That’s Kina Collins.

We are so proud to endorse Kina Collins who has had our backs in the streets and will have our backs in Congress. 

Kina began organizing in the wake of Laquan McDonald’s murder in 2014.

From leading in the fight for racial justice, fighting for gun violence prevention and Medicare for All, to standing in solidarity with Sunrise Movement hunger strikers in 2021, Kina has stood with the people. She understands it’s going to take the power of movements to transform our neighborhoods.

Her district, which lives with immense inequality, deserves a congressional leader who’s lived in the poorest area of their district, shares their needs, and will fight for them in Congress.

Meanwhile, her opponent — Rep. Danny Davis — has failed to show up for his community, cozying up with the establishment status quo. While he rakes in corporate PAC money from Amazon, Kina is out protesting with Amazon workers.

We just announced our endorsement of Kina Collins in the Democratic primary for the 7th Congressional District in Illinois (IL-7). She launched her campaign today and we’re so excited for her run in this critical race.

Kina is an organizer from a working-class background focused on addressing the economic, social, and racial inequalities in her district and beyond. IL-7 is the most unequal district in the country. Working-class communities have been left behind, and the pandemic has only made things worse. Wealthy parts of this district have an average life expectancy 30 years longer than less privileged areas in the very same city. 28% of all of the gun violence in Illinois is in IL-7. This all needs to change.

Kina has fought for Medicare for All, police accountability, and justice for all. She’ll continue to fight for the people in Congress.
