Tucker Carlson blames women

Who’s to blame for the Fourth of July shooting in Highland Park? If you ask Tucker Carlson, it’s women and “crackpot” school counselors. In a truly unhinged piece on the shooting last night, he painted a tragic portrait of the difficult life of young white men like the Highland Park gunman. “The authorities in their lives, mostly women, never stops [sic] lecturing them about their so-called privilege.”   Tucker then went off on the left for “politicizing” the shooting before launching into his own rant where he stigmatized mental illness and blamed the behavior of many mass shooters on antidepressant medication. This disgusting misinformation is exactly what we’ve all come to expect from Tucker Carlson, but his high viewership makes his lies incredibly dangerous.   Will you make a donation to help boost our ability to counter this messaging? The sad reality is that Tucker Carlson and the other propagandists at Fox News have a much wider reach than we do, and we need to catch up if we’re going to counteract their dangerous lies. We know for a fact that Tucker’s words can have a deadly impact. The Fox News personality is one of the driving forces in mainstreaming the racist “great replacement” conspiracy theory that argues that white culture is being destroyed by immigrants and people of color in America. The gunman who targeted Black shoppers at a Tops supermarket in Buffalo last May had great replacement language in his manifesto that was eerily similar to Tucker’s own.   Please consider making a $15 donation to help us combat this deadly rhetoric. Hatred and prejudice like Tucker’s should have no place in American political discourse.   Tucker also mischaracterized the recently passed Bipartisan Safer Communities Act as a bill that will allow “the government to disarm you by force without charging you with a crime.” Lies like this just make it harder for us to do this work and pass sensible reforms that the majority of Americans support.
