20 races to watch in the next 60 days

 

With the announcement of Rana Abdelhamid (welcome, Rana!) joining the slate yesterday, I’ve got my eye on the number of races BNC has stacked up in the next two months.   Before I run down the list of upcoming elections, I need to ask for your help. We are still over $7,500 short of our April fundraising target, and we have to close that gap immediately. Here’s what’s on tap: May 3rd - Ohio heads to the polls to vote for Nina Turner (OH-11) and Morgan Harper (U.S. Senate). May 17th - SIX BNC candidates are on the ballot in four states: Charles Booker (U.S. Senate), Erica Smith (NC-01), Nida Allam (NC-04), Doyle Canning (OR-04), Jerry Dickinson (PA-18), and Malcolm Kenyatta (U.S. Senate). May 24th - Jessica Cisneros will defeat Henry Cuellar in the runoff for TX-28. June 7th - Four more BNC candidates are up for vote in three states: Angélica Dueñas (CA-29), Shervin Aazami (CA-32), Tom Winter (MT-01), and Imani Oakley (NJ-10). June 14th - Amy Vilela is facing an entrenched, establishment incumbent in NV-01. June 28th - Six MORE BNC candidates are up in Illinois and New York, including two of our five electeds: Marsha Williams (IL-17), Melanie D’Arrigo (NY-03), Brittany Ramos DeBarros (NY-11), Rana Abdelhamid (NY-12), Rep. AOC (NY-14) and Rep. Jamaal Bowman (NY-16). Each of these campaigns are working their hearts out to win, and each race has its own challenges. People power defeats Wall Street dark money

In the final weeks of our primary, Wall Street dumped millions of dollars in dark money to try and defeat this progressive movement. Let us be clear: It could have worked.

If we hadn’t been organizing from the very beginning, it might have done something. If we hadn’t been phone banking, we may have been vulnerable. If we hadn’t been supporting our neighbors with check-ins, supplies, and heartfelt conversation, those Wall Street dollars could have had an impact.

But the dark money didn’t work. That’s because no amount of money can buy a movement. No poll-tested lines, consultant-engineered attacks, or flood of negative TV ads can overcome a group of people motivated by the desire to build a better world together.

Nothing can replace that. Thanks to people like you – our volunteers, our fighters, our believers – we’ve made incredible progress on winning people on critical issues, on educating folks about challenges that affect our community, and on building a national progressive movement.

But our work is not done. We will not stop until we guarantee health care to every person, until we decarbonize our economy, until we end our system of mass incarceration and deportation, and until we finally win social, racial, economic, and environmental justice for all working people in this country.

Our success so far has been powered by small-dollar donors chipping in an average donation of $17.18 at a time. On June 30th, we’ll be facing our first FEC deadline since our movement won this primary. Can you make a monthly donation in honor of our primary win to power this progressive movement?
