During protests outside a Manhattan immigration courthouse, Department of Homeland Security officers briefly detained a staffer in Rep. Jerry Nadler’s (D-N.Y.) office, accusing the team of “harboring rioters.” Video footage shows a DHS officer entering the office without a warrant, prompting objections from staff before ultimately being allowed to proceed.
Nadler later condemned the incident, calling it an example of the Trump administration’s “aggressive and heavy-handed tactics” and its broader effort to “sow chaos” nationwide. Nadler said that if it can happen to a staffer in a member of Congress’ office, it could happen to anyone.
