The KC Pet Project’s Animal Services Division are looking into the terrier mix’s death because he was found on the ground, partially inside a Goodwill plastic bag with rope wrapped around his snout and head in the park, according to Tori Fugate, a spokesperson for KC Pet Project.

The dog, named Buddy, belonged to Nancy Morgan, who lives near the park. Morgan got Buddy when he was a puppy about three years ago, her family said.

Morgan has diabetes, and her daughter Corie Allen said Buddy knew when her blood sugar levels would get too low, and he would bark until someone came to help.

THE DAY BUDDY WAS LOST Allen said that she went out to lunch with Morgan on Thursday. While they were away, Allen’s daughter’s boyfriend put Buddy on his leash outside the house, and then went to the park.

At first he thought someone had taken him back inside. When he realized Buddy was missing, the whole family came home and took to the neighborhood, searching for him and calling his name.

The KC Pet Project received a call from park rangers on Friday, and they found Buddy near a downed telephone pole in the park.

A team member recognized Buddy from a post on a lost and found pets Facebook page, Fugate said. “Later that afternoon, my daughter got a call that said there was a dog that looked like Buddy,” Allen said.

Allen said that when KC Pet Project called them to come identify Buddy, her husband went first. He said it was Buddy, and he was “hung from a rope in a bag in a tree.”

SEEKING INFORMATION

Allen said the family has no clue who would want to do this to their dog, and they do want to press charges against whoever did it.
