People or Pentagon?

 

Much-needed legislation was just introduced in Congress to cut $100 billion from the Pentagon’s bloated budget.

Here’s what I said yesterday to national media about the People Over Pentagon Act:

“The Pentagon budget is racing toward $1 trillion annually, while free school lunch programs for 10 million children are set to expire in a few weeks. We’re told there’s not enough money to feed the hungry, care for the sick, cut child poverty, or protect the planet — even while Congress throws hundreds and hundreds of billions at a Pentagon that can’t even pass an audit.”

• The bill was introduced by Representatives Barbara Lee of California and Mark Pocan of Wisconsin.

• It would claw back $100 billion in unneeded and wasteful spending from the military-industrial complex.

• That money could then be redirected to help everyday Americans — including by feeding hungry children, investing in education, and addressing the climate crisis.

Tell Congress:

The Pentagon — which got almost $800 billion this year but can’t even pass an audit — does not need even more money. But everyday Americans *are* struggling. And you can help them. Pass the People Over Pentagon Act without delay.
