re: the Equality Act
Happy Pride Month!
I’m proud to stand with the LGBTQ+ community and advocates who are fighting for equality—because all Ohioans deserve to live their lives safely, with dignity, and free from discrimination.
This Pride Month, I encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the progress we’ve made, while also understanding the work is far from done.
We must keep fighting to make the promise of equality a reality for our LGBTQ+ friends and loved ones.
The Equality Act is a critical and necessary step toward ensuring we’re living up to our foundational values of equality and freedom for all. The bill would ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity at the federal level.
I was proud to vote in favor of the Equality Act as a member of the House of Representatives.
But after last year’s clear Republican obstruction of the bill, I understand the only way we’re ever going to secure equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community is by expanding our Democratic Senate majority this fall.
