This morning, the Supreme Court released their opinion on Dobbs v. Jackson, overturning Roe v. Wade and striking down the protections of Planned Parenthood v. Casey.
It is unconscionable that six unelected justices have gone directly against the majority of Americans who want access to safe, legal abortion.
We want to make it clear: abortion is still legal in Pennsylvania and you can still access the care you need.
But in recent years, anti-abortion extremists in state legislatures across the country — including right here in PA — have been trying to pass extreme abortion restrictions that have prevented and discouraged thousands from accessing safe abortion care — all with the intention to outright ban abortion in the case that Roe v. Wade is overturned.
That time has come. Now abortion funds, local groups who provide financial and logistical support to people seeking abortions, need your support more than ever. If you can, donate to the National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF) today.
Abortion funds are a critical part of the reproductive justice movement’s infrastructure. When clinics shutter, abortion funds are the frontline effort to remove financial and logistical barriers to abortion access.
They will not stop at Roe. Abortion access is one of several fundamental rights under attack in the U.S., including the right to vote, racial justice, LGBTQIA+ rights, and others intertwined with our right to self-determination, in which Roe v. Wade was grounded.
In Pennsylvania, reproductive rights and abortion access in our state are on the line this upcoming election. The only thing stopping our GOP-controlled state legislature from passing their extreme bans on abortion into law is a Democratic Governor's veto. We need to get every voter in our district out to the polls in historic numbers to elect a Democratic Governor and progressive leaders up and down the ballot. Now is the time to talk to our friends, family, and neighbors about what is on the line this November.
