Ever since the people of Los Angeles elected George Gascón to be their D.A., right-wingers in our city have been spending lavishly to lie about his record, reverse the will of the people, and throw George out of office.
The recall effort claims that George has turned LA into a “pro-criminal paradise,” and right-wing talk show hosts like Tucker Carlson and others have lied viciously about our policies and our movement.
Here's the problem: They're wrong.
- Prosecutors have filed felony charges at a nearly identical rate to what they did during George’s predecessor’s term.
- Prosecutors brought charges in 58.2% of all felonies (including murder, sexual assault, and shooting) compared to 54.4% under George’s predecessor.
Put simply: If harsh penalties and lots of prosecutions led to safer conditions, then we would see that in other counties and parts of the country where that continues to be the case, yet their violent crime has gone up.
We know that our efforts to reform the criminal justice system are working. And the people of Los Angeles deserve to see these policies through.
But that won’t happen if the recall is successful. So today, we’re asking you to chip in $10, $20, $50, or whatever amount you can afford to help our team correct the record, fight back, and defeat the recall.
