When Trump appointed his third far-right justice to the Supreme Court — we knew that the court could overturn Roe v. Wade.
Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, Chair of the corporate-funded, moderate, progress-blocking Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), thinks that Democrats can sit back and just blame Republicans. Look at what he tweeted the morning after the draft SCOTUS opinion overturning Roe was leaked:
Democrats have a majority in both houses of Congress. They could have passed the Women's Health Protection Act, codified Roe v. Wade, and gotten rid of the filibuster a year ago. Instead, they did nothing to actually secure abortion rights for millions of Americans.
The Democratic Party has shown that even with the majority, they won’t do what is politically necessary in order to fight for the lives and liberties of the people. If you’re with us in our work to fundamentally transform the Democratic party, and elect leaders who will fight for abortion access, will you make a $10 contribution today?
The Democratic Party has spent hundreds of millions of Wall Street, Big Pharma, and fossil fuel dollars and countless years asking the American people to give them governing majorities, and now they’ve failed in using those majorities to pass meaningful legislation or reform anti-democratic institutions.
We can’t let corporate Democrats like Sean Patrick Maloney continue to put the responsibility of this moment on voters when it’s the inaction of the Democratic party that has gotten us to his point.
We need to abolish the filibuster, codify Roe, and put everything on the line to protect not just reproductive justice but LGBTQIA rights, voting rights, and so much more. But in order to do that, we need to elect bold progressive members of Congress who will do whatever possible to fight for the people.
That’s exactly what we’re working to do in 4 more upcoming primaries against the Democratic establishment. Will you make a $10 contribution to support the Justice Democrats 2022 slate today and defeat corporate-backed, anti-choice incumbents like Henry Cuellar?
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
