| In this exclusive interview for CounterPunch, former UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, Richard Falk discusses the US crusade against the International Criminal Court and UN sanctions. Falk addresses what this means for future accountability regarding violations in Gaza and the West Bank. Falk looks at the ICC’s independent structure and jurisdiction within the UN-tied ICJ. He also questions the current US administration’s open hostility toward the international tribunal. Falk suggests that with much of international diplomacy during Trump’s presidency, it remains hard to tell whether the motivation is to achieve policy dominance or force an institutional collapse.
