I’m writing to you today because things are getting even tougher for our work at a critical time. Here’s the situation:
Our fundraising last month was the LOWEST it’s been in a year. That’s not a sustainable trend, at all. Our next two primaries are only 8 and 15 days away. We’re trying to send 6 more working-class progressives to Congress as our fundraising continues to dip.
We operate on a pretty tight budget, especially compared to other political organizations. It’s because we run solely on donations from grassroots supporters like you. We don’t take a cent from corporate PACs. We don’t have millions like the Super PACs spending against Jessica Cisneros and Summer Lee.
I know you’ve been there to support our work. I’m so grateful for your generous and steadfast contributions.
Our average donation this year is just $17.68. We’re incredibly proud of that. It means we rely on a lot of small-dollar donations to fuel our primaries.
You may know by now, but we started Justice Democrats after many of us worked on the Bernie 2016 campaign. We were all inspired and determined to find a way to continue the message of Bernie’s campaign through electing a Congress that truly represented the needs of the people.
That’s when we launched Justice Democrats and supported a lot of candidates in our first election year (2018). We lost a bunch of races, but then we won one big one: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s groundbreaking victory against the 4th most powerful Democrat in the House.
We recruited and elected Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman in 2020, defeating two more powerful corporate Democrats. This year we’ve already won our first race — Greg Casar in Texas. Now, we have 5 more Justice Democrats to elect so we can build the necessary support in Congress for Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, and so much more.
We’re trying to lift Summer Lee to victory against a corporate Democrat in just 8 days, and fuel Jessica Cisneros’ victory against conservative, anti-abortion Democrat Henry Cuellar in just 15 days.
That’s why I’m asking: can you make your next donation to Justice Democrats today? Your past donations have made our wins in 2018, 2020, and 2022 possible — I hope you can chip in today to help us win even more primaries this year.
I appreciate so, so much whatever you can give today, whether it’s $3, $27, $100 or anything at all. We will never take corporate PAC money and we will always rely on our grassroots movement.
In solidarity,
Alexandra Rojas, Executive Director
Justice Democrats
