Status Coup videojournalist Jon Farina captured tense scenes outside Delaney Hall ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey, during the evening of Day 3 of the hunger strike inside the facility. Families and protesters gathered outside after fears grew that hunger strike organizer Martin Soto was being transferred out following days of his wife Gabriela speaking out about conditions inside. Protesters blocked vehicles near the barricade, demanded answers, and chanted as tensions escalated outside the gates. One vehicle forced its way through the crowd and sped off, while another later reversed back into the facility as protesters chanted “people power.” Gabriela broke down outside Delaney Hall, saying Martin had done nothing wrong.
