Donald Trump has nominated Harmeet Dhillon, a known election denier and unhinged conspiracy theorist, to lead the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice—a role tasked with protecting voting rights and ensuring justice for all Americans. This nomination is a direct assault on democracy and a grave threat to the integrity of our justice system.
Dhillon played a key role in Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, using her legal expertise to challenge legitimate election outcomes in key states. She supported baseless lawsuits and amplified false claims of voter fraud, undermining public trust in the electoral process.
As Mehdi Hasan put it, "she's an election denier in charge of a division that is supposed to protect voting rights. Good luck to Dems trying to make a comeback in 2026 and 2028." Dhillon’s leadership would not only weaken protections for voters but also embolden efforts to suppress votes and spread disinformation.
Dhillon isn't just an election denier. She also made conspiratorial and inflammatory comments about the brutal attack on Nancy Pelosi’s husband, further illustrating her lack of judgment and respect for the truth.
The Senate has a constitutional responsibility to provide advice and consent on nominations. Approving Dhillon would be an endorsement of her dangerous ideology and a betrayal of the principles of justice and equality.
We call on the Senate to reject Harmeet Dhillon’s nomination as head of the Civil Rights Division. America deserves a leader who will defend voting rights and uphold the law—not someone who undermines democracy and spreads conspiracy theories.
