Sign Now: End U.S. support for war in Yemen

Friend:

President Biden is dragging his feet on a campaign promise to end U.S. involvement in the Saudi-UAE-led coalition’s war in Yemen, and time is running out.

Right now, a fragile and life-saving two-month truce has eased a blockade that prevented people from accessing food, fuel, aid, and medical supplies. But millions still suffer from malnutrition and disease, and the warring parties are far from committing to a durable peace. If the truce is not renewed by this week, the fighting – and the humanitarian crisis it fuels – could not only resume, but get worse.

The clock is ticking, and if the President won’t act, then Congress must. It’s time to pass a War Powers Resolution to unilaterally end U.S. involvement in the war in Yemen and pressure the Saudi and Emirati governments to work to finally end the conflict. Luckily, Reps. Jayapal and DeFazio are planning to introduce one any moment now — and that means it’s time for activists like us to get to work.

We can’t let a single member of Congress rest until they do everything in their power to pass this long overdue legislation. It’s up to us to make sure that our energy turns into VOTES.

Can you help push Congress like never before? Sign now to tell Congress to end U.S. support for war in Yemen NOW.

The Saudi- and Emirati-led war has caused the deaths of nearly half a million people and pushed millions more to the edge of starvation. In the months leading up to the current truce, and with ongoing U.S. support, Saudi Arabia and the UAE had escalated their campaign of collective punishment on the people of Yemen, making the start of 2022 one of the deadliest time periods of the war.

Now, after seven years of direct and indirect involvement in the war, it’s time for Congress to fully close the door on an era of U.S. complicity in human rights abuses and war crimes, while applying pressure to make sure the fragile truce continues. That means ceasing the supply of weapons, spare parts, maintenance services, and logistical support to Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

But the Biden administration is dragging its feet to end U.S. involvement and fulfill the President’s campaign promise. A War Powers Resolution would get the job done.

Congress must take action to pull millions of Yemenis back from the brink of starvation, and save thousands from further harm and violence, by upholding the truce and ENDING U.S. involvement in Yemen.

Just three years ago, activists like you played a critical role in pressuring Congress to act — and WON. That amazing show of sustained advocacy built the kind of diplomatic pressure that made today’s truce — and the lives it’s helping save — possible.

It’s time to re-up that energy and do it again. Today, the choice between a continued devastating war and a deepening of the crisis OR taking a step toward ending hostilities and helping the Yemeni people is clear — can I count on you to help push Congress toward the path to peace?

Add your name to push Congress to show up and do the right thing: Work to keep the truce alive, and pass a WPR that ENDS U.S. involvement in Yemen.

For years, Win Without War activists like you have been working tirelessly for peace in Yemen.

And with global tensions so high and families struggling here at home, it may feel brazen that we’re asking you to double down on that commitment to ask for even more — but the reality is more petitions, more calls, and more work is how we’ll get this done.

We may be just weeks away from ending our involvement in one of the biggest humanitarian crises of our lifetimes. We can’t stop now.

Thank you for working for peace,

Stephen and the Win Without War team
