WE NEED TO CLOSE ALLIGATOR ALCATRAZ AND OTHER CRUEL DETENTION CENTERS»

Immigrants being detained at Alligator Alcatraz, a makeshift site in the swampland of Florida, have endured appalling state-sanctioned abuses — including maggot-infested food, overcrowded cages, overflowing toilets, and a severe lack of medical care.

Now, other states are opening similarly dangerous and inhumane detention centers.

There’s “Cornhusker Clink” in Nebraska, “Speedway Slammer” in Indiana, Louisiana’s “Louisiana Lockup,” Florida’s newly opened “Deportation Depot,” and your state could be next.

We’re fighting back: working to free individuals from detention and going to detention facilities in-person to document and expose abuses, advocate for their closure, and stop more from opening — but we need your help to respond.

Thanks to your recent action, we succeeded in almost shutting down Alligator Alcatraz… but then a recent court ruling allowed it to be filled once again. This is why we must keep up the pressure — our work is not done.

ACT NOW: Help stop the cruelty by demanding the permanent closure of Alligator Alcatraz and other brutal detention centers.

Shut down Aligator Alcatraz and other dangerous facilities. Take action now.

As Amnesty’s Director of Refugee and Migrant Rights, I’m visiting detention facilities, talking to people inside, speaking to their families on the outside, and spending time at the U.S.-Mexico border to meet with families suffering under the life-threatening conditions inflicted by the Trump administration.

And I can tell you, your voice is urgently needed right now.

The Trump administration and governors like Florida Governor DeSantis think that they can detain people in facilities where there are no courts, judges, or oversight into the conditions. We won’t let this injustice stand.

Before more of these horrific detention facilities open, before more immigrants are terrorized and dehumanized, we must close Alligator Alcatraz for good and prevent funding from going to more shameful facilities across the country.

SPEAK OUT NOW

I’m so appreciative to do this work alongside you.

Thank you for strengthening our response,
